Inventory adjustments 2.0

Nanotrasen, when designing the modern set of belts, faced several choices for designer. The notable ones were a joint coalition made up of multiple large station’s engineering, medical, and security departments to ensure the belt would meet everyone’s needs, a clan of master belt-making artisans that would ensure durability and quality, and a neural network made up of several AIs that would prioritize sleekness and efficiency at the cost of function.

They passed over each of these proposals in favor of a self-appointed group of bureaucrats. These bureaucrats set a number of arbitrary criteria to maximize or minimize, and then awarded themselves bonuses using the leftover budget. One of these criteria was the number of clips on the belt, which they had set to minimize. So, instead of using clips, they utilized tiny bluespace catches, therefore minimizing the number of clips and allowing them to immediately award themselves huge bonuses with no questions asked.

As it happens, these catches interfere with the technology used in bluespace capsules, meaning belts cannot be stored inside them.

TL;DR Arbitrary bureaucracy plus bluespace equals nonsense.

Pulling is annoying, the hands need to be free to switch different tools, the implant needs to be researched and with the reduced bags you will have even less space to do that

This is better lore than we currently have and I can totally imagine NT higher ups being like that. Thanks for my new headcannon

I wish the implant research would both drop down one tier each to encourage their usage as half the time I get implants now days the shuttle is immediately called. Sometimes as soon as I am done!!

To have a concealable gun?
It will still be concealable, it’s just gonna take up a ~third of your bag instead of a seventh.

Storage implant will be able to hold two large items so its functionality will not be changed.
That needs to go under misc on the github and I have done that now. But I have already very visibly committed to keeping the storage implant in exactly the same spot with regards to the changes.

Ah, groovy, thanks for putting my mind at ease.

Thoughts on this?

Bags of holding need to be made standard research rather than explo disk limited with this change.

I think they’re fine as-is tbh.

The new version of the PR no longer substantially limits bag space compared to before unless your regular loadout included multiple boxes (which created extra space) or contained one of the newly LARGE-ified items.

I’d like to point out that the new PR actually increases bag capacity for small and tiny items (what people used boxes for) compared to before in order to compensate for the space lost by nerfing the single box everyone started with.

This is what they are trying to take away from us

I still dont get why you’d need belts in your backpack

this is something that should be taken away.

Every time I play HoS and wind up acting captain wind up looking at the illustrious, tempting, marvellously sharp piece of dress and weaponry and say to myself “but I have a job, that job demands the SEC belt and I need every pair of cuffs I can carry, not a single sharp object, as fun as it would be to just dismember them, that is against space law.”

@DStarsthy for the fact that you could use them like boxes and carry more shit than just carrying the objects themselves. this update is looking to quash that.

Cant I put an entire toolbox into a box?

The new box size will be 5 slots, so kinda, but toolboxes proper the blue ones cannot fit into backpacks.

you could stow a cardboard box with a toolset of 5 options in it when this hits but eh.

“After making a discovery in capsule tech regarding re-packaging and reuse, the first phase of designs approved were a quick deploy, 3 section sorted tool closet optimised with tool carrying and safe transport of electronic devices and precision tools, to this end the 3 sections were modeled after the small miscellaneous stowage compartment in NT dedicated suit lockers. While convenient for a large number of items, the design lacks volume in each compartment to safely stow heavy duty apparel such as space suits, harnesses and similar fare.”

I don’t agree

I never asked for your agreement.

So I don’t carry a toolbox if I have to build something. If I’m working as MD or CMO I need the medical belt., so that slot is already occupied. But I guess that’s too problematic for some reason. So, in order to engage in a realistic roleplay I would have to contact an engineer, plan out the layout, fill up 3 construction forms, get approval from all comand and then construct the stasis bed, because being able to do the stuff your self is… le bad!. Can’t wait until a breathing system is implemented because in real life you can’t run all the time!

I personally just put the toolbelt in my waist at that point

Backpack is for boxes, belts are for the belt spot. I’ve done it like this since I first looked at the construction wiki page. If I have more than one belt then Im probably trying to do more things than I should by just myself which is a problem boxes fix or another crewmember willing to help me. Whatever is in your backpack in that image just looks…redundant tbh.

Also guys dont start drama based on playtime thats cringe :frowning:

So… put down the medical toolbelt in medbay storage and equip the engineering one?

Yes, yes it is, the goal of the server is player interaction.

Stamina-based running is a thing on some servere, making it deal oxygen damage would be trivial. Ask and ye shall recieve.

Ah yes, such a good change for a server that has lowpop for half a day, I sure love player interaction when there is 1 engineer and 1 scientist or stuff like that. Also playing command proves you that if you want something not just well done, but DONE, you have to make it yourself. You can’t rely on people for stuff most of the time.
