Why removing "Based" and "Nya" from the game will seriously improve roleplay

Just because something is cringe does not mean it is bad, you can’t tell me you don’t like things that are considered cringy.

Additionally yeah, I consider those who abstain or have no opinion as those who are currently fine with the status quo, if they didn’t like it “anti-nya” exists.

Finally, there is a mild discrepancy in the total number of people who voted in the sections following “pro, anti and abstain” meaning some people who abstained, then proceeded to vote in the following sections regardless, so there is a small number of people who “abstained”, who may be positive or negative with regards to the topic regardless of selecting the “abstained” option.

Counting “abstain” as anything but “did not vote” in not a correct way to interpret data.
Sure it means they are fine with how things are.
But it also means they’d be fine with us filtering the word.

then by all means, I created that poll to further the gathering of opinion with regards to “nya”, if you want to draw more solid conclusions.

the poll shows at the least there is a comunity opinion and it’s going to keep cropping up and in ways like this.

otherwise I’m going to point at the ol’ nya poll, the half-joke that it is, in response to what is often a joke that is maggotguy posts.

Well, we’re not planning on changing the status quo regarding the word any time soon anyways
as i’ve said

and if we were gonna do it we’d do it on our own whims anyways most likely, not based on what the players think.

But if we did want to know what they think - yea we’d do an in game poll to make sure its presented to all players and keep biases from this being only forums-goers or a discord one being only discord-goers.

And yea, people sure do have oppinions about it. Not realy suprising considering how much drama from both sides the whole thing causes and has been for actual years now.

I have not been here for the entirety of this realm’s existence, or for long, but in the scriptures it is clear, there is great strife with regards to a semi-taboo term “nya” and the powerful mechanisms that govern the ways those immersed in the realm’s deeper places behave called “the filter”, I can only imagine the immense chagrin of the masters of this realm

I’m not saying filter, but rather bwoink people who use slang like “based”, “Cringe”, etc since based in particular does have valid reasons to be said.

“Gamer” is also redacted

Or just… make it so that it only gets filtered when it’s the only thing said in a sentence.
Which is how it’s used most of the time.

Damn, not getting those antag rolls?
Gotta get that sweet sweet bwoink some other way?

Ohm, if thats whats this about… that should already be happening.
If it happens once in a round we might overlook it but generaly thats already no bueno
As with all lrp terms ofc

It would seem Maggot is trying to deny their nature as someone who goes on da interwebz.
can “based” and “cringe” be LRP? yeah.
is signing up as Chigurh with the intent on playing kek or cringe lrp? yeh.

some times being busy, running around the station, then getting taken aside and asked by botany/xenobio/ that dripped out assistant how they look or to bask in the glory of what they’ve achived, some times you just gotta get on with what you’re doing and to not kill the dude’s buzz just shoot off a little “based”

You got mad at someone using “meow” as a stand in for “me” as part of a natural speech quirk that’s been going on for pretty much as long as you were banned, then made generalising and (false) personal attacks against their player. Grudge reported an entire group of felinids because they talked to each other and then tried to use “its the future” argument against literal cat people saying they shouldn’t be allowed to meow.

YES. people CAN take it too far… but I don’t see it being some systemic issue that lowers standards or takes you out of the game unless its something you already had a pre-existing bias against and are just waiting to blow up when it happens at or in sight of you.

A station where Terrorists, shapeshifters and magical beings can attack a diverse species of crew but nooo, Felnids meowing at people is clearly the point it becomes unrealistic.

Bans are basically in universe firings… racial speech quirks should not warrant this unless it gets to the point where its disruptive to your work. but then again… disruptive is clearly subjective here…

Okay so I had to speed through the second half of this thread. Genuinely losing brain cells.

Nya - This one I usually believe is okay in moderation. Despite that, I hate the word

Based - Based on people’s points of view on this I’d have reason to believe none of you have used this word outside of the internet meaning

Cringe - Again, like “based” can be used as a standard word, it’s simply that people see this word and think “Oh like the internet”

Sus- Can be used as a shortener for ‘suspicious’ or ‘sustainable’ (Mumbo Jumbo, the minecraft youtuber, pointed out the second option and while odd, it is acceptable)

Not to mention if we’re censoring “Cringe” and “Based” because “They’re 21st century slang your character shouldn’t use”

I suppose we also find a way to censor “Radical”, “Gnarly”, “Tubular”, “Airhead” “Wicked” “Righteous” and others for being 80s/90s slang, and lol your character shouldn’t use this because it’s way in the future nobody says those, it’s not like some words and slang can stick around outside their decade of origin or anything, or have separate meanings.

You people seemingly want to roleplay, but you never want to give up the parts of LRP you loved, like saying based or other phrases like that.
Are you guys just zoomers or something? No grown adult says “based”, not in real life and even less on the internet. And we are supposed to be talking about a research station with trained professionals, not a middle school.

“what’s the skinny”, that’s some hella old greaser slang, I’ve used it maybe 3 times my entire life and said it twice in game, it’s gone entirely over the heads of folks both times.

Are you going to tell me, that the term “based”, which I’ve heard used and have used in conversation with various persons 27+ in age, didn’t happen? it’s hard to track these kinds of terms and their usage, you’re going to get controversial if you make broad statements like that.

where there is an entire department, that is paid what is basically minimum wage, called “the service department” who’s job is to have long, dumb middle-school esq conversations while sitting at the bar counter or the with, talking about how becky from chemistry won’t make nicotine patches or how Joey from RnD got flattened by a vending machine and you told him that’d happen if he kicked it and got the good ol’ “told you so” chuckle out of, Or that assistant made the mistake of having an orange jumpsuit then sec jumped him.

HELL, Even the “Professional strike teams” sent to nuke the station will recklessly and quite humorously scream “GET DAT FUGGIN DISK” on the regular, it sounds like you want HRP @LodedDiper

Ive tried pretty hard to sell SS13 to friends of mine but the learning curve seems to intimidate the pansie asses, even with me there to hold their hands while they learn the hotkeys.

Its a lot like being a morrowind fan trying to convince skyrimmers to give MW a shot.

Yes. That is exactly what I am proposing.

Exaclty.

In what way is talking the way you do in real life “roleplaying a character who is separate from yourself”? How can you say it’s a form of roleplay to have 0 seperation (in this) between you and your character?

This is actually a good argument, but the thing is that this isn’t what actually happens, in my experience.

report them then??

ignoring the fact this is an ad hominem, do you seriously consider me saying that someone who roleplays as an Anime Catgirl could possibly also a huge weeb as a “personal attack”?

damn, it’s almost as if putting Nya in the title gets clicks (and thus more eyes on what I believe is an easily fixed issue)

If you actually read what I posted (other than the title) you might have noticed I didn’t bring “Nya” up even once. No hard feelings though.

dude it’s literally present for the entire scroll because its the title, it’s kinda hard to ignore, it might time to rename this post.
