annoying that the jobs with the most things to carry (Sec, Engies, Explorers, Miners, Etc) are the least stationary jobs who can’t afford to just leave things at their desk the same way Gene/Viro/Xeno can.
Id honestly prefer an encumberence system where your move speed is reduced if you’ve stuffed your bag to the brim over a flat reduction of storage
I can agree that backpacks should be relied less on. But for it to be replaced with something more reasonable. Perhaps, Sec can put more things in their armour. Much like a real tactical gear. Give them 14 slots for small items or such.
I dont fully understand the way slowdown is handled but I think i have the right idea…
Normal movement delay is 2 (0.2s) when running, so 5 tiles a second. Think that checks out.
Duffelbag has slowdown = 1. I think this is just added to the movement delay so 0.3s
50% more delay but effectivly 33% slower. (or 66% base movement speed if you prefer)
I believe wounded is handled by a multiplier on top of this…
Mostly gut intuition but it seems to check out…
Dragging a corpse is 1.5 for comparrison (3.5 = 43% slower)
Why though? You still have to go to the brig to get geared up with sechuds and whatever you want to dispense yourself from the vendor. The two extra slots aren’t necessary. If you really need that one extra slot, buy a sec webbing. That’s what its there for.
Someone please tell me what exactly it is that you have to carry on you as a security officer that doesn’t fit in your current storage capacity.
If anyone should be getting extra bag space it should be exploration crew who already couldn’t carry a lot of disks around.
Ammo, spare cuffs/grenades/mindshields…
Yes, under green alert you don’t need the added space.
once shit gets real, you really do.
Edit: And don’t tell me to empty my sec belt of non lethal tools. This will only encourage a bad cycle of killing from sec/antags because they can’t spare the room for non lethal stuff
And I store a crowbar and epi in my boots.
I know how to optimize inventory space if need be, but if I need to min max the shit out of my inventory just to carry my basic stuff to do my job, it’s quite saddening.
And yes, you can adapt. But only up to a point with how low the overall cap is. Especially for roles with weapons.
You need a shotgun? Good luck storing your disabler and ammo! (guess what will get ditched…).
You carry med/tools because it’s a red/delta situation and medbay is dead or comms are down, or whatever? Geeeeeeeet fucked.
you need to carry a prisonner stuff?
Was already a pain to split it beetween your bag and his. Now, I don’t even want to think of it.
This PR has merits, but as it was TM’d it’s just painfull and the benefits are very much little next to the sheer annoyance.
No you really don’t. I never need all that extra space. If I need to carry ammo under these new rules, I would either pick up a dedicated ammo belt, or dump most of my sec belt keeping just a baton in there.
Unless someone is stun resistant, all you really need is a disabler and a baton and maybe a flashbang if you want to be fancy. Guess which of those three fit in your backpack? That’s right, all three. And if they are stun resistant? You can lethal them.
The fact YOU don’t need it doesn’t make the input of the rest of security players on this thread irrelevant.
If you’re so robust you can deal with all threats with only your skill, a disabler and a baton then good for you!
But a lot of peoples like the gimmicky sec items like bolas, barriers, spacelaw books, shields…
Having SOME room to at least have options open isn’t too much to ask for I think.
I thought i already droped my stinky oppinion on this one, but apparently i just droped a reaction on the PR, not a comment.
Im glad that general feedback is actively being sought, thats realy not a given afterall. But it does feel like a “how can we make this bearable for you” type situation where the option of “lets just not do this at all please” isnt being considerd as a possibility .
Maybe thats just me though.
It also seems to me that theres alot of crying and yelling about this, which ironicaly makes it hard to judge what the general playerbase thinks about this. It feels like the majority strongly dislikes this, but that might just be an illusion.
And then again, we hated not being able to fit more than one gun in your backpack too, but we went though the stages of grief on that one and are fine with it now.
Unlike the guns change, im not too sure whats the point is here. Well no, i am actualy - its meant to discurage powergaming, right?
But i dont realy think making inventory management in general more tedious is a good mechanical solition to that. Im entirely supportive of some restrictions, like not being able to fit entire medkits into backpacks anymore. That makes sense as it prevent a realy common avenue of powergaming, and realisticaly if you stuffed an entire medkit into your bag there wouldnt be much space left for anything else.
Not that realism is a good indicator of good game design, mind you.
My concern is that this will make general inventory clutter more tedious to deal with, even if said clutter isnt powergamey. Like the range of stuff and knicknacks a clown might pick up over the course of the round.
Unfortunately i didnt get the chance to see it in action in the testmerge. From what im reading, it will most certainly have to be waterd down from its state in the testmerge for it to be deal-with-able. So thats a good atleast.
My skill isn’t the reason why I can handle things with a baton and disabler, the reason I can handle things with a baton and a disabler is that the items themselves are robust as hell.
Did you really just call bolas and shields, two of the most powerful tools security has, a gimmick item?
Except you do have some room. I’ll list out all of things you mentioned in your inventory and fit it in my inventory within the original terms of the PR, the most limited possible configuration. The way it is now, you would not only get extra bag space but an extra two spaces on your belt by the way.
The only minmax thing is putting stuff in your boots and coat pocket. And if that’s min maxing to you, you have a very warped view on minmaxing. I put square pieces in a square hole, put circle pieces in the circle hole. It’s not hard.
