You can also damage them to the point they slow down but not crit. Most people will stop once in that state.

I see what you are saying. Ambushing you out of nowhere is a bit weird. But think of this. You are HOS and someone say so and so is a traitor tot. Do you want to say over comms “Hey so and so I’m going arrest you.” you’ll just give yourself away and they’ll split. So you want to catch them off guard. You can’t take any risks with a rouge crew member they could be a ling traitor or some harmless crew member that explain the situation. But either way risks couldn’t be taken so you used the fastest method to subdue them. Which is shooting them with a dart.
