See title, Beestation sometimes feels like it sends mixed signals on what exactly it’s level of roleplay is so I’m hoping this poll will give an idea what the community thinks it’s standards is. This is basically a response to this thread: https://forums.beestation13.com/t/the-main-problem-with-bee-rp
Also your vote is on what you think of Bee’s current state, not what you wish it to be.
HRP
Punished MRP
LRP
RP (Please specify in comment)
I’m indifferent.

I’ll check in on this for a couple days and give results in the comments.
Bee is marketed as “RP” not MRP, it used to be but they removed the M in an attempt to encounge something…I don’t really know why they changed it. If anyone knows please enlighten me.
I wish it was more RP but when you have rounds where there is a monkey zoo in the bar and there are monkies hanging from nooses all over the station it’s like hard to really do anything RP wise, or when the bartender hangs himself in the back room every shift, or people who will just ignore you if you try to interact because they’re trying to mix max their job.
I do my part on always trying to interact and RP with people, i just wish some people would try a bit harder.
A big part of it was that people always kept crying “noooo stop enfocing HRP rules on MRP server”
and also that MRP … does not realy mean anything, lots of people have lots of diffrent ideas about what “medium” is.
There was more thought put in then just that of course
but those the reason i remember most
Game mechanics that encouring LRP, antags that encourage LRP, lack of filter on a few words, jobs that require zero interaction with the rest of the crew etc.
I think Medium Roleplay in itself is hard to define/achieve since we all have different ideas of what it means. That being said it’s less confusing than just being defined as RP since it could mean anything.
I get why it was done though.
I think the specific terms of LRP, MRP and HRP are way too vague and everyone has a different definition of what they are. I think bee is a server that requires roleplay, but lets you have some fun with it at the same time. You can do a funny gimmick and play an interesting character. I think its a pretty good balance between RP and still being an entertaining game.
I do wish there were more interactions or more things to generate IC conflicts, since sometimes you can go an entire round without anything happening and nothing forcing you to interact with someone else and I agree a little bit with saying that there should be more in that sense.
I personally think Bee is barely even a LRP server. It advertises as an RP server but mechanically and from my own experience I hardly ever get to actually roleplay with other people. I’ve gotten more fun and enjoyable roleplay interactions on my first week of playing SS13 on Goonstation Heisenbee than I have on Bee in the last 4 months, and half of the time the roleplay interactions were by people I got to know on Bee.
thats the thing about advertisement, you can really capitalize on what is controversial.
Bee has a controversial thing happen in it’s community on an at least bi-weekly basis, so if you want that interaction and semi-useful data then Polls derived from the hot topic be the way to go.
I know what you mean I started out on Goonstation and had some pretty good rp on there. And the reason I can have a good rp experience every single round on Goon is the fact people simply respond better to rp on there. For example on Goon me and a friend went around pulling pranks as the Bracken brothers. Generally people responded well and actually interacted with us we even had the captain trying to foil our plans and would exclaim “Damn you Bracken brothers” upon our daring trash chute escape.
Now if I did something similar on Bee at best I get a couple sentences congratulating me for even attempting rp, most usually ignored, or in the worst case thrown in a cell. Sadly I already learned TG code and don’t feel like relearning Goon code oh and I kinda like you people.
It’s hard to explain it, like Bee has this bizarre tonal shift where it swings between all the different types, like you can have the best RP round ever and then the very next round everyone flies off the rails and everything is on fire (then you find out this was a greenshift). When RP happens it’s great and I have fun, but sometimes shit just goes sideways or you have whole departments of people who won’t interact with you… I will say revs is always a horrible experience no matter what side you’re on.
I also think this is partially a side effect of being marketed to beginners who might just be shy or saw a video online and got the wrong idea about the game. I mean thinking about it more Beestation is simply just RP because it can go in any which way there’s really no better way to describe it.
Alright so this is a quick check up.
With 40 votes it looks like the common opinion is that we’re a LRP at 53% with zero people voting HRP which I honestly expected to be honest.
30% said this was a MRP server while 10% believe we are just RP.
I’ll make another update later on but before that I want to response to a couple replies here.
I don’t personally agree completely. I don’t think anyone going to a LRP server is expecting anything more than sandbox chaos. low and high RP is a lot easier to define that meduim though so we agree with one thing.
Honestly probably right on this. I personally just want the data, I’m kind of in the opinion that any data is useful but these “hot topics” feel like the same couple of topics going in a cycle.
I don’t really want this to become a trend though but at least the polls usually get admins eyes to see the issues we’re bringing up.
I’ve felt this exact same way with rounds time and time again. When there’s an RP round on Bee it’s quite honestly the best on SS13 imo, I mostly put it down to players being fairly loose with each other and if you just happen to have the right crew on the right round there’s magic or something. (I’m rumbling it’s late lol)
Anyways I’ll make a final update on the results here after some time as past.
