Player reports take ages to get looked at. An ahelp takes about a few minutes to get looked at. Even if there’s no admins online you can ping adminhelp on the discord to get us online.
Good point, CAA’s could be absolutely be put in charge of a court since per the wiki page they are supposed to be unbiased and fair. Then you could have warden/whoever representing prosecution and lawyer/whoever as the defense without hampering security’s ability to do stuff as it stands right now
Amazing. Literally destroyed with facts and evidence. Very well done.
The reality is shitsec is half the fun of playing lawyer or CAAs, you need that conflict for the role to be fun. It only becomes an issue when it’s being taken OOC or rules are being severly broken.
Isn’t that why CAAs are given a fax machine? That’s bascially an IC ahelp. If anything CAAs make being an admin easier since they’re actively making sure crew are following SoP or metawise the rules.
Any time I’ve seen shitsec get ahelped by others it’s been deemed an IC issue on the spot, and then you can’t go and file a player report because it was already handled in round. I would much rather have an overworked admin take ages to look through a player report than having the one overworked admin online at a given time take a look at a case before writing it off to make sure all the other things in a round are going smoothly.
And just because a CAA is handling an issue IC instead of OOC doesn’t mean action can’t be taken OOC after the fact if they’re being an absolute shitter. From what I’ve been told, admins are quite literally involved with the CAA’s entire process, y’all would’ve already been notified about this before. Space Station 13’s entire draw is its interactivity, forcing players to take it out via ahelp revokes the ability to, y’know, interact. It removes a main draw from its game. CAAs are a legitimately interesting way to turn what would be “ahelp + let admins handle” into an actual IC roleplay.
The only main issue with CAAs I can see is the complete lack of SoP themselves, which is a pretty major issue, I agree. But I do not see why bee admins haven’t just set a temporary ruling or temporarily use Axel’s unofficial SoP for the duration of the testmerge while they work on an actual SoP page, because at least then there’d be something to moderate on basis of.
Yeah. IC handling, such as access removal and confiscation of equipment can help stop the behavior from getting worse/affecting more people.
That doesn’t change that behavior may still warrant an OOC punishment. If you’re doing the same song/dance about IC shittery round after round, that doesn’t really change the fact that there’s multiple people being affected or that dealing with it is tiresome.
CAAs work as a good throttle for trying to manage IC issues from going OOC off the bat. Faxes can easily open the door for more heavy handed IC handling or move to OOC should this heavy handed approach fail.
But in reality the job is used purely for ooc drama and randomly disrupting people. Lawyers were a thousand times better.
Never works, is always used as a cudgel to bully people you don’t like. If they’re meant to be the pope to the admins, why the fuck is it open to any old shitter.
Better as in ignorable. They weren’t given hall monitor powers.
CAAS should probably hold trials, that’d be fun
Make lawyers a service role(which it technically its), remove sec access, problem solved. A whole new shitty role didnt need to be introduced for a problem as easy as “remove access”. Just make it more of a roleplay oriented role like librarian and chaplian(WHICH IT ALWAYS BEEN). While youre at it add a detention room(or whatever the room is called where people can meet prisoners under sec surveilance) so lawyers can still meet with prisoners without breaking into sec
As a Staff Member? I agree with the concept, I don’t agree with the access. Having anyone on the station with minor access to all departments besides the captain is bound to cause excessive power grabbing. Each secoffs is given a maximum of one department access outside of sec, while heads have frontdoor to all departments except supply. I have not code dived to compare their accesses to Heads of Staff, but that’s what they are sort of like. Mini-heads of staff without an enforced SoP (right now) which are intended to “spy on people”.
As a player (head of staff, usually CE)?
If I got shit to do, such as save the SM (true story), I’m not going to listen to some paper pusher saying he wants a damn investigation. Additionally, since the CAA’s are “beyond the chain of command”, who keeps them in check? What if they are fucking up and no one in the staff team is there to handle it? (see below)
Not to mention we don’t have that many active admins to respond to their fax machines anyways
If you don’t like CAAs bullying you, there’s a very easy solution!!
Step 1: Follow SoP
Step 2: Follow Space Law
There you go!! Now no-one can “metagrudge” you!

Tbh. CAA is the PERFECT gauge for whether or not someone follows SOP and Space Law based on whether or not they complain about CAA’s existence.
Perfect role all things considered.
Given “space law” is just glorified loss protection for NT, having a corporate affairs agent who deals in both SOP and would also be knowledgeable in SL makes sense.
spindel cough cough
I had both on good and Bad experiences with CAA:
_ the good rpers that let heads and sec handles stuff, chiming in when needed.
_the lawyer+ who harass sec or head over every minors SOP breach and hide behind Big daddy CC to the point sec/command wants to lynch them(you cite them spacelaw, they invent shit out of their ass like old lawyers did)
_CAA that acts like heads and get involved in every matter, not respecting heads and caps authority, and we cant do much about it since, you know out of the COC.
Tldr, RP potential good, some player Bad and should read SOP/spacelaw.
However, i question them having semi AA and sec and command radios, it s HoS level of Access, second only to cap(Big juicy target without any defense).
