But with BAD DUDE you can rest assured that when he rolls up to your department he is there to rough you up for your lunch money. After all, cigarettes and choccy milk don’t grow on trees!

Will the assist assist is unironically almost always no, to the point where people expect literally nothing but graytide from them.

Bad dude is legit just a role for griefing people. We don’t need a dedicated jerk with a motorcycle (which the clown already covers). Roll antag clown if you want that, since he has most of that stuff.

Was thinking what could be added and changed and thought of this:

New role:

Surgeon
Equipment: Starts with a surgery tool set (could be helpful if the original one gets swiped)
Duty: Fix spessmen via precision cuts
Extras: Within the operating theatre - +50% operation step speed +20% step success chance - this makes the Surgeon the go to person for fixing deep routed brain traumas for instance.

Tator extras - +50% operation sped speed EVERYWHERE +40% step success EVERYWHERE, for your maintenance ghetto evil surgery purposes.

Access - same as medical doctor

This poses a question now: what the hell is the point of the medical doctor? We could consider buffing other options, while within the medbay for them like:

Faster syringe/pill/patch application while within the medbay area. Higher virus resistances while in the medbay area. In addition some form of CQC/melee buff within the medbay to easily pacify shitters and tiders. The docs would be medbay’s first line of defence and robust ER doctors (provided they say in medbay where they belong)

ERT could get a bit of loving while on the field but no ideas on that yet.

This would be an interesting buff to medbay on MRP I feel where cloning amnesia is a thing. Plus a surgeon would be a pretty sweet for fast implantation for instance, and if under anasthetic a tator surgeon could plant surprises on someone in no time at all.

A tator surgeon would raise less suspicion when taking people or corpses straight to the operating ward (apart from the usual metagaming)

Job:
Deputy

Equipment:
NT mall cop uniform, corporate security beret, law and order headset, black shoes, security HUD (not sunglasses), security belt (except swap stun baton and flashbang out for an ebola and cable restraints) as worn items. In backpack a seclite and another two pairs of zipties. Brig access only (like Lawyer and Heads of Staff). Non-mindshielded.

Duty:
Whilst most Officers are assigned to a department, these Deputies do not have departmental access. They’re there to break up minor scuffles in public spaces and get killed in patrol maint. They’re poorly equipped and less armored so it’ll be more difficult for them to detain criminals and in most cases they’ll be forced to call for back-up from real Officers or try to deter criminals but not be able to contain them.

Extras:
Access-restricted lockers outside the holding cell/interrogation room with extras of all their equipment.

Traitor specific:
Mindshield implanter. Implant breaker.


Further Explanation

This is a semi-serious job suggestion mostly thought up due to the number of Captains or HOPs which promote random crew to Security Officer or say “we need more Security Officers!”. I’d rather see them be promoted to this position than a full-fledged Officer. Whether this would work as a roundstart role I’m not sure of still but it would certain add more paranoia to the round than say Blueshield.

Duty

Basically security-lite for those who have an aversion to being a full-fledged Security Officer but still want to stop antagonists. I think it’s interesting because whilst on good days you might get an effective validhunter or two on your team helping secure criminals, on bad days you may trust them then they turn around to backstab you.

Different HOS’ also can have different approaches to them. They could:

  • Use mindshield and tracking implants on them roundstart to help ensure they won’t get converted and can be tracked if they’re another type of antagonist
  • After a positive trial period could give them a baton, disabler and use the department console to increase their access to be the same as a normal sec officer
  • Ignore them like the lawyer
  • Equip them like any sec officer immediately
  • Require them to submit to implants for extra gear
  • Force chemical implants and remotely signalled bombs on them roundstart
  • Gulag them to “earn their keep”
  • Demote or execute them just because
    etc etc

More on their gear

They’re designed to have just enough worser weapons, armour and access than Security Officers to annoy a number of them to later opt for being an Officer instead. But just good enough stuff that people who otherwise would just be Assistants can at least have a defined role with behaviour standards, as well some direction to do something positive for the station’s crew.

They’re getting pepperspray because it still remains criminally underused, and a flash because they’re easy to get anyway.

Several weaknesses compared to officers: first off being no security gas mask just a normal breath mask, so they’re weak to pepperspray (and tear gas grenades?). No sunglasses, so are susceptible to flashes. No bowman’s, so can be taken out with flashbangs. And no armor vest, so a bit more vulnerable.

Another idea I had is for equipping them with a type of police baton which does no knockdown, and only as much stamina damage as boxing gloves (10?). So instead of toolboxing criminals they have to use non-lethal means of subduing anyone immune to their pepperspray.

Or there could be a type of taser gun which causes convulsions for a few seconds and as much stamina damage as a disabler shot (ie no stun or knockdown), but the cooldown between shots is at least 5 seconds, range is short and it has very limited ammo. Or they could have the PTSD gun which was recently PR’d.

STOP SUGGESTING JOBS THAT ARE LITERALLY ALREADY IN THE GAME
you know there used to be chemist, cmo, and doctor
now there’s medical ddoctor, paramedic, cmo, and chemist
we don’t need “surgeon” or “bad guy”, that’s just assistants

  • New job roles are mainly applicable to MRP where you actually roleplay being a particular type of crew member, rather than the Assistant who can do anything.
  • Assistants very rarely decide to take on a defined, helpful role such as “surgeon”, they generally find something else to do, socialise or just greytide.
  • We’ve got way too many Assistants during high pop. People want to feel needed and have a purpose, a job gives them that.

Grey tide is an all encompasing ambigous term, spearing glass, wrecking lights and stabbing people isnt allowed on mid-high pop on MRP for obvious reasons.

With the random maint shit in the works, a few more esoteric gimmick jobs that arent guaranteed to spawn coule be added. Shit like psychiatrist, tourist, journalist, spawning in random offices in soace

This is the stupidest shit I’ve read in a fucking while. You obviously have never played as sec and even less as HoS. There is a box of “deputy armbands” in security. It is there for a reason. That reason is grabbing the first greytider that wants to validhunt and basically give him a validhunting license.
We don’t need more useless jobs, we just need a HoS that knows how to use the shit in his office.

Very wrong on both accounts, and you clearly need to reread if you don’t understand the differences between giving someone an armband and the reasons why the job role was outlined.

I’d love to make like a shaft miner but for space exploration, where they have a team on a ship and have a bluespace warp drive or something where they can teleport to random runes that get generated on a seperate z-level and they just have to find cool / rare shit just like shaft miner, but I know how this would be difficult to code

Expanded Gateway Travel would greatly benefit from more power to basic station tools. Thrown spears dealing 30 damage would do a lot to take down basic wildlife, or a crazy miner.

Buff melee for expanded gateway travel !
