However the main alternative I offered to assassination target round removal was borging, and the response from pinksuzuki really surprised me. For some players, being borged is actually a fate worse than round removal.
Now this really surprises me, as I really enjoy borg and AI rounds, and being emagged would only make the experience more exciting and unique.
So I got to thinking how you would solve the issue of people being borged against their will, and how you could apply the borging experience to something that didn’t completely alter gameplay mechanics, to allow for such players to still have an enjoyable round.
Kind of sounds like an IPC, right?
What if we made an alternative body that you could put a posibrain or MMI into? An IPC frame, that let you play with the standard hand-and-bag based gameplay, but still forces you to follow silicon policy and asimov/crewsimov/efficiency laws? a Lawed IPC if you will.
Why it’s good for the game
It allows players that don’t want to be borged to ask for a frame that won’t completely change their gameplay experience. Since Beestation is for beginners I think the server is in a prime place to innovate on this idea.
My main concern for this is the versatility of humanoid frames. There are several things a cyborg simply cannot do that are trivial for humans, and the game has been in part balanced around this fact. A lawed IPC would be exceptionally powerful, especially if it could be resequenced.
Honestly I feel like adding versatility to the other body Posi-brains and MMI’s can inhabit.
MECHS.
would be a more fun option.
Come on guys, like at least of the 5 mech chasis* have VISIBLE hands, what if we had big bulky tools that behave like regular items, but only Operable by Mechs?
(*The Odysseus, Gygax and Durand, the the 3 models of Ripley have lifting clamps and the Phazon I’m not totally sure on.)
You know what I, for the life of me, do not understand? why is the hydraulic clamp not an INTEGRAL part of the Ripley Chasis?
You can SEE it in the sprite, it is legitimately the second most notable aspect of the Ripley’s sprite design on the arms aside from the shoulders those arms are mounted upon.
I don’t care how it’s done, if you have to have an hydraulic clamp as part of the construction of the Ripley chasis type or if due to it being part of the thing the moment you make it, so long as it means it doesn’t need to have another added after construction I’d be happy.
I like the idea for it, but wouldn’t this just straight out make AI-linked IPC’s preferred over normal borgs?
Borgs have AA and can interract with computers from afar, but are limited to using only their tools.
Ipc’s Can be given an id with AA and use any tools at their disposal.
Technically you could just make everyone AI lawed IPC’s and you would have the “Perfect department”, where everyone is restricted by their Laws or they will get bwoiked.
