Do you have an alternative suggestion as to how to influence staff decisions regarding unjust, illogical rulings? I’ve posted in this thread until I was blue in face. About two members of the staff have responded, with the Host responding once - and not responding at all to my reply.
You could try playing a different server instead of arguing until you’re blue in the face, especially if you have to turn to trying to incite rioting on the forums.
You could try playing a different server instead
Again, the join or die argument. Lovely. I do love BeeStation. I love the potential of having an MRP server with a superior codebase. Is it not my right as a player to make threads illustrating my displeasure with rule changes?
Yes, but you need to know when to stop. You have made your point. The only thing continuing forward does from this point is damage you as a player here.
ngl but all I got from this is that saying any word with the intent of insulting or disregarding another species that ends in “ixxer/xxa.” will inevitably be considered an attempt at evading the filter by someone.
Lizzer.
Lizza.
Literally inevitable.
It’s funny.
This ain’t any criticism towards the filter or anything, but it’s something that I feel that will happen, and is happening already, probably.
Is mentioning it a few times in OOC, until I get banned the point where I should stop - or is making enough noise that staff actually pay attention to the issue the point where I should stop? You’re welcome to argue the merits of my 3 day OOC ban in the appropriate thread. I’d encourage you to post logic behind the rule change in this one.
if this was really just because discord was banning racist discords then why was ic racism banned on lrp while no one was going after ic racists
Rule enforcement as written seldom happens. The rules that are actually enforced vary from admin to admin. LRP should stay on Golden, MRP should stay on Sage. IC racism (as opposed to specism) should not be allowed, because it alienates players, and doesn’t fit in with a canon where a collective humanity has unified to the point of conquering the stars together.
Very epic, admin just telling a dude to fuck off to another server for his (admittedly heated/passionate) player feedback about a ruling. You can tell he knows that you pretty much have very limited options to go to other than Bee. Based SS13 server monopoly.
I really do view the BeeStation servers as being the flagship SS13 servers. Friendly to newcomers. Options for both MRP (allegedly) and LRP. Excellent codebase. Being told to go to another server is admittedly rather disheartening.
EDIT: I really do exaggerate the issues as I post them in the forums. This is because the only way to get an issue recognized is to format it in terms of drama. If I had any hope of actually influencing administrative decisions in another format, I would. As it stands, the only way to make effective change as a player is to make the most noise possible.
I’m flattered you think so highly of us, but we definitely aren’t a monopoly. When you have an hours long argument with someone that refuses to listen/accept what you have to say and yet feels the same about what you’re saying, there is no option left but for one side to walk away.
As staff expected to enforce rules, I’m not the one with that option. I see is someone disheartened and frustrated but also growing dangerously fanatic and willing to do anything to get their way. When you start disrupting the game with your shenanigans we have to act.
At the end of the day (or tomorrow as the case is this time) if you don’t get your way, you have only two options: Swallow the bitter pill and stay, or leave.
Eventually that will be up to standard again ![]()
“Incition rioting on the forums” when all the dude did was mention his issue with the new ruling and link the forum post in OOC post-round. Not really inciting anything. The only people that were ‘incited’ were people who didn’t know about the rule, and when they learned about it, they thought “Well that’s fucking stupid” and went to make a post about it on your forum, which is THE single place to do things such as give feedback about a ruling they don’t agree with. Wouldn’t say he ‘incited rioting’, but rather brought something to light that people didn’t know about.
It might seem like the only way to get a visible response, but as I explained in DM things have been very much under way already before you did this.
Intentionally raising drama puts you on ALL the wrong kinds of radar
He in no way (that I know of) disrupted the game. He started a discussion in OOC about it post round, and that’s it. I’d appreciate it if someone could enlighten me about how he disrupted the game.
I’ll certainly admit to being a fanatic. I like BeeStation. I think that the recent changes were bad, and am willing to argue it. If that involves making myself a target of unfair bans, as long as they don’t stop me from playing the game, sure. Put me under the radar - scrutinize me. If I get to influence a positive change to the server as a player, that’s a fair exchange. I’ve explicitly stated my reason for creating drama - to illicit effective change and discussion that I wouldn’t see happening otherwise.
Let’s keep this thread on topic - it was my bad to post about my OOC ban ITT. What do you all think of this rule change? What are the arguments for it? Against it?
EDIT: Perhaps, if all administrators cared as much as I do, I wouldn’t need to make threads like this, and wouldn’t be met with as many “sorry, I just enforce the rules, I don’t make them” instances as I do. To further elaborate, it’s the job of every administrator to enforce policies that they find to be worthwhile to the effective functioning of the game, potentially risking their position as an administrator in the process. It’s a powerful statement, which is at the discretion of every administrator as a human being, instead of an uncaring robot.
Very Late Edit 2:
Eventually that will be up to standard again
I’ll believe it when I see it.
I really doubt this player is RPing racism against lizards.

In fact, it almost seems like they’d rather be saying another word that rhymes with igger but that word is filtered. So since they are unable to say the filtered word, they use another that conveys the exact same meaning.
It’s almost like context and intent make a difference, yeah? Like I’ve been arguing this entire thread. It’s the age old argument of easy, but bad - versus hard, but good. It’s easy to blacklist certain words. It’s hard to not do that, but ban based on intent and context. The benefit reaped from the latter is not punishing players who have a legitimate IC intent to be IC specisist. As above, so below. The people intent on being acutally racist will still be racist, the staff have just added another minor hurdle for them to jump through. The people who want to play a specisist character will be unnecessarily punished.
BlueScope didn’t incite anything. All he did was tell the playerbase about the dumb rule you guys conjured up with mental diarrhea and people thought it was dumb. Him informing the masses about a dumb rule and them getting mad about the dumb rule =/= him inciting drama. Literally no one new about this rule until he stepped up which is pretty screwed up that this had to happen
Please relegate that comment to my ban appeal, as it doesn’t really apply to the current thread.
EDIT: Yes, it is pretty messed up that the rule hasn’t been included in the official rule page, despite about a week passing since its inception. That’s worthy of its own thread, though. This thread relates to the rule in particular - arguments for and against.
Sure, what you’re saying about him using the word as a substitute for another word is completely possible. Just as possible as this accusation of racism being projection, and that player literally does just hate people who play with lizard characters. It’s easy to feel that way about lizard characters when they always have names like “eats-the-ass” or “gets-lynched-often” (both names I have seen on this server). It’s almost like that’s the reason people have come up with a derogatory term for them in-game, and people roleplay as people who hate lizards.
