Title’s pretty much self-explanatory, we all love to shit on the boys in red whenever the opportunity arises, but despite what feels like an almost never ending wave of Shitcurity, Incompetent HoS & Power Hungry Nerds, there’s always been a bunch of players who manage to excell in such a role.
Feel free to give a shout out to the: Security Officers, Brig Physicians, Wardens & HoS you enjoy interacting with & please highlight what it is, that they’re doing right, so that others may hopefully be able to learn from em.
When it comes to being a robust sec, I think Zane Blake is my favourite. But there are other people I like to see in security department knowing they most likely will not be shitsec like Aden Finlay, Leo Brinigh, Max Anders, Damien Fulton and few other names I cannot recall now.
But the most chill sec/brig phys that will never be shitsec is Peach Blossom, without a doubt.
That one brig physician that actually takes time to interact with prisoners and care for them instead of just ignoring them like they don’t exist anymore or asking at roundstart for equipment to join the officers in arresting people.
Anyone who’s chill, plays with the intent of dying, and uses their game knowledge to further the round rather than just to eliminate all antags in 5 minutes and turn every round into a green shift.
You know, people who only actively hunt antags that are actual threats like xenos, spiders, and occasionally cultists… though this one is up in the air, sometimes if there’s a lot of newbie roundstart cultists they need a few minutes of security incompetence to get going and actually have an interesting round.
The kind of gamer that “forgets” to check skinsuits, doesn’t often check cams and prefers role play and second chances to just running in with a swat suit and primed flashbangs.
So… nobody. I mean, I play like that when I get sec but I can only enable so much when everyone else on the security team is bloodthirsty and I don’t want to start a goddamn insurrection over whether or not to confiscate the clown’s shoes.
Why? Because most rounds don’t end when all the traitors/heretics are instantly caught and antagonists are a meaningful part of the game’s flow. There should be either an active antagonist or the looming threat of one at all times, if you ask me. Mid-rounds are great and all, but they’re not guaranteed and they’re almost always better when supplementing an active traitor rather than desperately trying to act on their own an hour into a round when everyone has god tier nanites, augs, mechs, wingpacks, and genetic super powers.
It’s not a fair fucking fight. They have disablers, stun batons, flashbangs, bowman headsets, sunglasses, gas mask, lasers, pepper spray, and backup. They have a comms channel where they can communicate with other security members, suit sensors on at all times, a warden and AI with camera access, and are the default “good guy” that validhunters will side with if there’s a fight in a hallway.
If you’re on LRP lowpop and there’s only one sec officer and they’re not particularly robust then it can be a “fair” fight only because they don’t know how to use their equipment. Maybe if it’s a group of unrobust sec officers you can even feel a smug sense of superiority for a moment for “robusting sec” because they were all either new or incompetent.
I intentionally play less-robust than I could as sec because if I played as robust as I could there’d be very little chance for any antag to do much of anything.
That’s not a statement of me being especially good at the game. It’s not about having good reflexes or “skill” as a security officer because you can easily chainstun people. Even if they’re flashbang-proof and have a gas mask they need to take meth to be able to resist disabler stuns or pop an EMP and if they’re doing that then they’re likely to win even if I powergame.
This isn’t a fair and balanced team deathmatch game. It requires a mindset more complex than “UNGA BUNGA ME CLICK BAD MAN” to actually get any joy out of it. For me, anyway.
Yeah that’s still not a fair fight. Your point is invalid. Sneaking up on someone and penning them with stun and mute and then yeeting them in maints isn’t fair.
Like I said it’s not about fair fights. It’s about allowing non-powergamers to have fun. It’s about allowing people who have more interesting strategies to win because it makes a better story. It’s about having something to say about all of it and a fond memory knocking about in the back of your skull, not winning.
And if it’s just about winning to you, then… I mean, you’re not one of my favorite sec players.
I’m still not entirely sure why you’ve chosen to argue this with me…
if an antag wants they can wreck the shit out of security fairly easily, lol…
the meta is deff in favour of traitors vs security.
blood brothers; not so much, they need to pull some heist shit if they want to outgun sec, which is very hard.
but traitors?
they have de-swords, holoparas, syndicate bombs, pipebombs, inf ammo crossbows and most importantly like maggot said; the element of suprise
you can have an entire armormy in your backpack and its not gonna mean shit if some turbo traitor gives you half a second to react to him pulling a shove>de-sword combo on you
