What's your favorite clothing category

“MuH sPacEmAn DoLl no maTtEr wHat tHey lOoK liKe”

Now that mocking people who like 8-bit drip is done and dusted, what is your favorite clothing category? Combinations of different categories like suit and neckwear, singular categories, stuff like that.

I think for me the best categories of a spessman depends on the job, but as a general rule I like Suit, headwear, and shoes, they can typically make or break a fit imo.

If you want, say what your favorite clothing choices are for each department or job too.

When I can’t tell at a glance what department you work for without examining you for your ID, my first impression is that you look like you’re trying too hard to be an “OC do not steal” type of character instead of someone that belongs on a space station.

Usually there’s enough of a character behind these that it doesn’t matter or last beyond the initial impression, but I like hats/accessories primarily, with other outfit choices only looking good when they fit the department.

I generally try to stick to the department color scheme, even if i’m not wearing the proper clothes. But the best and most versatile category are probably scarves. They come in many colors and fill the one slot that’s empty most of the time.

Hats/Headwear are the most noticeable I guess? Shoes I feel like they barely make a difference to the fit.

As for me the suit slot is the most noticeable. This ain’t Shawshank, I’m not looking at peoples shoes. Or legs. Head, maybe a little bit.

As a follow-up and to throw some love: They haven’t been around for a bit but Silent Sentiment gets special mention for best drip while still being immediately recognizable as a mime, stripy shirt is part of the drip.

I see command and detectives repping their brown sneakers and immediately take them less seriously.

I like suit and headwear because the running joke of saying to people i’m an expert on X field while wearing for example a hardhat and engineer vest while the full clown outfit stays on it’s pretty funny

Again it doesn’t necessarily last beyond first impression - most players who put that much into their appearance also put a lot into the character.

I just have bad experiences outside of SS13 with the heterochromia Mary Sue type characters. Prince(ess) Colgate from the newest fire emblem triggers a visceral negative reaction from me for the same reasons.

I have iconic drip, everyone knows it whether they love or hate it. The medbay moth with a wig and a nostalgic medical winter coat has become a staple. It’s the best outfit I’ve seen, but that’s not surprising because I wear it. If something existed that I liked more, I’d be wearing it. That doesn’t mean it’s the best outfit…Just the one I like most. The one I like best. That being said…I’m mistaken for a doctor a lot when I play cmo due to the coat, even when I wear the cape. I once got told to get out of the bridge because I was just a doctor. The blue beret helps. Also, berets can either make or break an outfit. Berets can be the topping or it can RUIN your drip. Brown shoes kinda suck, but I wear them to seem more CMO. I also really like the kimonos…Anyways. I think moths look worse without wigs, but I also think anything without hair on its head looks worse. I’m gonna hop on the wagon of people not wearing departmental clothes being immediately less cool. I make exceptions for cargo and service. I really like the donator scarves. I also really like the mad scientist coat…even though it doesn’t have a slot for anything…even science things. The mad scientist coat is cool as hell, and I have put it on two of my characters now. I forgot what I was talking about…

I do like the vast variety of clothes we have that make very little difference on the character, but when examined you’re like “huhhhh?” lots of neat stuff in our Chameleon Change Closet that i’ve never encountered IC before, interesting metal shoes, some clown regalia the woiks

my favorite is gloves so i can eat them and not get nettlepoked

you can tell which character taylor is playing using this method

I just wear a suit, on my primary character anyway (mining excluded). If you have issues telling which department I’m in: it’s probably the one you find me in unless it’s a public area.

I’m also gonna be real, the whole department clothes thing is only important for medical. If you’re going by aesthetic engineering also benefits, but for everyone else it’s a nothingburger, sec even benefits from looking like regular crew.

I’ve never thought about this, but you’re probably right. I see job mixups ALL the time buuut I only really play medical. It’s really important there that genes wear gene stuff, chem to chem, doctor to doctor, and cmo to cmo. They look similar even with uniforms too, tbh. The amount of times that chem is confused for doctor and vice versa is agh. I can’t see it being too important in other departments though…If they’re in the kitchen, they are likely cooking. The same applies for the rest of service. In science it really doesn’t matter who is where and receives what request. Engi has two jobs other than the department head, and I hear they do vastly different things. Security pretty much has to wear sec gear to be able to carry all the things they carry though.

Cloaks are super cool! You see someone with a cloak you either tell yourself “wah this guy is edgy” or “wah this is a head of department” or both. I’m glad we can get one of the best cloaks in the beeshop as chaplain

Huge ass monitor damn…

By far my favorite is the uniform, which i find incredibly underrated - the turtleneck skirt is top tier, and all the skirts just look good with a digi lizard. There’s a load of variety too and they always fit the character.

Also, winter coats always look good. Love me a good winter coat - I equip one anytime I can, even if i lose out on armor.

Maybe we shouldn’t judge books by their covers.
