TsunamiAnt

Your Discord Name (Including any alts you have):
TsunamiAnt

How often are you online to help? (Timezone):
Germany so UTC+2, or CEST

What changes, if any, would you bring?:
Not much. I may silently conspire to turn the server int a HRP server

How old are you?:
24

Why do you want to be a moderator?:
WhereAmI/O is holding a gun to my head as we speak, also boredom.

How long have you been playing SS13?:
2016 i think

How long have you been playing BeeStation?:
also 2016, intermittently.

On a scale of 1-10, how skilled are you in SS13?:
8

On a scale of 1-10, how skilled are you as an administrator? (this can include past games):
Used to be 8, prolly now more like a 5 due to rust. I’ll have to familiarise myself with the new tools

Have you ever been an admin or moderator on another server? This is not limited to SS13:
yeah on NSV. Apparently I was the lore lead there too for a while, though I wasn’t told.

Do you have any alternate accounts on SS13? If so, could you provide their CKEY?:
ThatGuyOverThere114 but that one lies dead forever.

Your strengths:
Patience, Also i hate being mean and want to solve shit as polite as possible.

Your weaknesses:
I fail at doing that sometimes. Also I can get tantrumy. If i throw a tantrum by god tell me.

Is there anything that gets you really mad, real fast?:
People actively and unironically being assholes for the pleasure of it. I turn the customer service mode on with those to avoid doing dumb shit.

What do you think is the most important trait for a staff member to have?:
They need to be reasonable. Stubbornness is the anti-version of this.

What makes a staff team good?:
Coherency

What is a staff team’s purpose?:
To make sure the players have fun.

What kind of player are you?:
I walk when there is no rush. I don’t carry a backpack when not needed. I write paperwork.

How do you think you will change once you become a staff member?:
I couldn’t predict something like this. Last time I was admin i changed barely at all, though I do believe it turned me into a better person.

The clown slips the HoS and steals his gun, spacing it right after. What do you do?:

Check if he’s an antag. If not, check his notes.
If he wasn’t an antag, I then bwoink both of 'em asking something vague like “What was that with the gun? Can you explain?”
Meanwhile I’m looking up his gun on sdql2 and get ready to move it back to the hos if their answers warrant that.
I would say without prior history the worst he’ll get from me for that would be a note. Unless he’s a complete dickhead or griefer of course.

A non-antagonist is sabotaging the Atmospherics loop and pumping plasma into the distro, along with dragging around a canister and releasing it into the atmosphere. Assuming that an admin is cleaning up the after-effects, how do you conduct the ahelp with him?:

Delete the can, admin prison him, ask him what’s going on. Also check his notes and playtime and such.
If griefer, permaban.
If idiot Server ban a week/month or whatever seems appropriate.
Variable on behavior of course. If he’s totally new and just doing what he saw on youtube, etc.

A chemist who is working alone accidentally mixes an explosive mixture inside of his chem dispenser, instantly killing himself and destroying the machine, along with exposing Chemistry to space. Nobody else was injured aside from him as a result of his actions. What do you do?:

Nothing. Maybe I look at his notes. If it’s on purpose I hit him with a 3 day job ban.

I am dearly sorry for your run in with Whereamo.

If you’ve been an admin before I’ll save you the hypotheticals, but I am curious about your run as an NSVmin.

  1. Do you remember any particularly tough situations/tickets? What happened and how did you handle it?
  2. Why/how did you leave the NSV staff team?
  3. Which is better, a meat pie, or a sausage roll?

1: Back when i was trialmin, we had our permissions horribly fucked. Like we had damn near host perms. I had a round during that where no other admin was online for a good bit, when like 15 seperate bwoinks popped up. The round ended with like 20 ahelps. I only got help after i was mostly done. Here’s a screencap I kept for good luck:

2: Horrible mismanagment. I was helplessly clawing trying to “fix” nsv, while looking on in horror as one horrible decision was reached after another. I put too much of myself into it, and it fucked me up for a hot year after. I got disillusioned and left.

3: Obviously sausage roll. Pies are for sweet fillings only.

Looking good so far, couple of questions though.

1 - Someone is making highly offensive and inappropriate comments in OOC. This behavior persists despite multiple warnings. How do you handle the situation?

2 - You notice a secoff using excessive force, such as lethally beating subdued crewmembers or using lethal weapons on non-hostile individuals. What actions do you take to resolve this?

3 - An AI begins bolting down critical areas like the engine room and bridge without any clear threat or provocation. This AI is not malfunctioning or an antagonist. What do you do?

4 - A member of command staff seems to be giving preferential treatment to a particular player, including giving them secure items, access to restricted areas, and more, seemingly without valid reasons. How would you address this behavior?

1: Are we talking like rule 6 stuff or 7 stuff? If they’re making people uncomfortable I’d OOC mute them and proceed from there. Will result in a note or ban depending on what they did. Obviously perma if it’s slurs or like links to porn or shit like that.

2: I talk to them and see if they’re maybe just stupid. If they have a history with this they get a ban accordingly or a note if not.

3: I ask them why they’re doing that and if they have a valid reason. If there’s no clear threat i might have missed something. If they can’t come up with a good reason it’s either note or jobban for a bit. Worse if they have history, yadda yadda you get that part by now.

4: This might be difficult, spotting shit like metacoms or friends is kinda hard and needs observation. I’d ask them about it first. On NSV we would have added a hidden note for other admins so they to monitor them, haven’t found something like this in bee’s conduct though. If they are being obvious about it i’d prolly start with a like 1 day server ban(depending on history)

We can always use more floor scrubbers! Looking pretty good so far, questions responses seem on point too.
There is one thing i want to say though -

i know you’re Joking, but i’d like to make clear that thats not what we’re trying to be.

Ive never actualy been on an HRP server, so maybe this autistic rant is superflous - but theres a good reason why we dropped any clearer classification then just “RP”, instead of MRP or such - These labels realy mean verry little because evryone interprets them diffrently.
But my point is, while we love people being actualy in character, roleplaying sensible character and such we dont realy want to become a chatroom or monologue town. Sometimes action is a good thing and it often actualy makes verry little IC sense to have big long winded interactions before murdering someone. And being silly is also healthy, in regulated amounts.

You are obviously uneducated. Meat pies are way better than sausage rolls.

Besides this flagrantly wrong opinion, I trust NSV’s vetting process given we’ve had two great admins originating from there. Liking your answers and app so far, comfortable with giving this a +1.

I can fix you.

Like Jix said, I trust the vetting by NSV and I like what I’ve seen of you OOC and IC. It might be a bit early but I’ll give you my +1.

After talking to the NSV heads you seem to have quite a lot of experience as an admin already, which is great! Here a couple things I wanted to point out/ask;

The only reason you’re applying is because you’re bored? You will be dealing with tickets and players all the time, this is not easy or relaxing, are you sure you have the energy to keep going? Being an admin does require a decent bit of commitment.

That’s quite interesting.

Bee was founded in 2018.

He has 0 hours and the account was made today. In the ticket he says that he’s very new and plasmaflooded while following a youtube tutorial. What do you do?

How would you be able to tell if it was on purpose?

I know roughly what I’m signing up for, and I like adminning. Honestly I had more fun adminning on nsv than actually playing it in the later months.

2018?? Maybe i joined in 2019 then? Time is a fuck. Woops.

Well i could check logs to see if he talked or did some other stuff corroborating it. Playerpanel might have him flagged too if he’s evading or something. If there really is no evidence at all of him evading and he’s being very nice and promises to read the rules and do better I might consider like a 2 week ban. But I think it’s safer to say my default ban length would be around a month?

Logs or notes prolly. If he’s just in there doing nothing for medical at all and saying nothing, that’s iffy. If he has notes about this previously it’s safe to say he was warned to be more careful. Hell maybe I ask the CMO/colleagues if he noticed the chemist being an idiot or even talking at all.

I wanted you to clarify because your first response was a bit lackluster in the sense that you just assumed you’d instantly recognize if he’s a griefer or a new player/idiot. Which often is absolutely not the case.

If he has 0 hours and plasmafloods then that should be a permaban. Even if he claims to be new or followed a youtube tutorial. You need to be quite competent to plasmaflood, it’s not something that happens by accident. And if you watch some ss13 youtube videos you will know that it’s going to mass murder everyone.
The first thing a new player does when he joins his first ss13 server, is not to plasmaflood.

This should be a permaban either way. In 99% of all cases this is a griefer. And the 1% genuinly new player is free to appeal it on the forums.

How does doing nothing for medical or saying nothing/not talking at all have anything to do with blowing up chemistry?
Him not roleplaying is a completely different issue and totally irrelevant to the fact that he blew himself up in chemistry.

Again, I’m being a bit picky here because you just assumed you would instantly recognize if he did it on purpose… which, being honest, is simply not possible in this situation outside of him literally saying so.
There is a lot of nuance to this question, unlike the plasmaflooding one, and there is no “correct” answer, it heavily depends on how you feel about the player. If they’re acting in bad faith or not.

Jumping to conclusions too quickly can lead to frustrating tickets. For the player but also for you. In all cases it’s better to give someone the benefit of the doubt.

Again, just a couple things I thought were worth pointing out. Otherwise I feel like this is a solid app especially if one adds your already existing experience on top!

Fair enough, Things like these are difficult to do in prompt form. The permaban does make sense though. Downright malicious griefing is not something we had to deal with much or at all on NSV, that might be a blind spot for me.

I didn’t mean to say i was going to instantly recognize, but you do get a vibe. That’s what i meant. Try to get as much info as possible then “wing it” essentially.

Reading the questions, and building on what Fresh said, I think you should reevaluate your process for considering ban length/severity.

However, given it’s been a while for you since you’ve adminned and that was on another server, it’s mostly probably just rust. I think you’ll adapt well, and youre certainly passionate.

Another coder on administrative staff is also something good you can bring to us.

I remain optimistic to you joining!
