Exploration and You
Exploration is ‘to traverse or range over (a region, area, etc.) for the purpose of discovery’ and the purpose of this guide is to tell you how without dying 99% of the time and to avoid the N1 most hated mistake which you might have figured already is the HUGE waste of time spent flying from place to place to place

Lets start with the basics

Setting Sail

Fuel is usually a Explorers Number 1 Concern as the lack there off would cause unforseen delays unfortunatly your Standard Issue shuttle is not build with that in mine and Must have the fuel pipes Altered with RPD (either a volumetric pump or a gas pump towards the engines) Its that simple! and a scientist would be more then happy to do it for you or atleast let you borrow the RPD from toxins2. 3. 4. 5.

A thing many forget is to account for others as unlike mining, explorers dont have the leasure of a Stable Telecomms satellite so it is best to ask a engineer or a AI to link it if they are smart enough

Into the Long Quiet

if all went according to plan your now on the path to the lonesome road

  • Assassination (Kill 1 Armed Individual,Caution Advised,Use terrain to Advantage)
  • Artifact Recovery (Recover Artifact,Vortex Traps Guranteed,Easy 40K Discovery)
  • Blackbox Recovery (Recover Blackbox,Deliever to Bridge,)
  • Nuclear Decomission(Training to become Nukie,GET DA FUCKIN DISK)
  • VIP Extraction( The VIP is scared,caution adivsed, Not all will Cooperate)

Now that you’ve Selected a Mission you must Understand the basic space essentials

  1. Objective signal, Your paid to go here, it will pop up randomly , there will be disks (Despawns)
  2. Unknown Signal, Old Space ruins for the Brave , there is no disks (Whiteships dont despawn)
  3. Unidentified Signal,Unpaid Objectives,Will not Respawn,there will be disks,Standard Gen
  4. Weak Signal, Deepspace, Pirates spawn here alongside other space farers

Once you’ve landed Begin Mission and be sure your generator has been powered, while not forgetting to scan and upload disks, as a explorer you dont need a internal box or much class specific gear so if your not picking them up ur bad, the ship is your base and you shouldnt get overconfident, 2 Pistols are Enough for Most Threats and your hardsuit does the rest

Now after you wandered through your fair bit of stardust you will encounter a few ruins,treasures and enemies as you’ve noticed if you read the last chapter i love lists and the possibilities are endless, there are 3 factors at play in Exploration , Luck,Time and Skill and the first 2 are the hardest to master

Test Your Might

A quick rundown of all Enemy Types and their use

  • Spiders
    (Hunters will crit you with 3 bites)the spiders hide treasure,their meat is worthless(Nurse dies in 2 shots Hunters in 3)
  • Blob
    (Tanks)the blob consumes everything but do not rush as your outnumbered by the walls(7 shots to kill a blobbernaut, full magazine for a node)
  • Xeno
    (DONT TAKE OF UR SUIT)meat is moist,very fast,the spitters avoid armor and chase u(all die in 5 shots)
  • Demons
    (Oh fuck)You will see the ground change from orbit,a true test, the Portals spawn them infinetly,Large dmg and Average HP (3 to 4 shots each)
  • Clocks
    (extremely tanky) there are fragile traps everywhere,watchers are machines,the golems are best avoided or ran from
  • Hiero Traps
    (rip IPC) both give 20k discovery,Watcher Scans,Protector Acts(destroy it first) avoid corridors and doors they hide under furniture too (3 cutting mode shots)

The Boss’s

  • Pandora
    (Easy) guards a vault of treasure,Force into melee to avoid powerful piercing attacks(1 full magazine)

  • Paper Wizard
    (Hard) Time is off essence,Infinite stickmen,Cryo beam to slow, Shitty ahh lunatic cultist shadow clones mid fight (5 gun magazines) the robe grants you his power(stickmen army)

After a battle hard thought there comes a realisation of what to do with the winnings as much of what you get is useless to you but not to others onboard the station, but i hope you had enough time to return to share it as the station isnt keen on waiting past 90 minutes for your return

(PS-If your going to sell your wares be sure to know your customer as half the time security will play the Surrender all Belongings as per SOP Card if you try to make them)
(PPS- nobody buys stechkins)

TIPS

  1. DO not modify your shuttle with lathe,fabs,etc explo is easy enough ur just bad
  2. consider finding a Diralect Whiteship as it is quicker and more spacious
  3. Remember half of all the Crew are bored and aimless so you could take some with you
  4. Always Check which mode your gun is on
  5. Carry a GPS or Stationbounced radio incase you get stranded
  6. Dont forget diskies!!!
  7. Explorers make good Deputies if you ask but usually they stick to space
  8. You can use 3 C4/Breach to blow open vault or just go RIght Until “tonk”, “krunk”, “plunk” then left until “tink”, “krink” ,“plink” and Right again Until bold text appears saying Sproing(sorta)

That concludes the entire Exploration team Guide and you can officially call yourself a Good explorer ,until you return stationside due to a early shuttle call with OP gear and somebody Malds at you

Should mention telecom linking and that Explorers should ALWAYS bring a God damn beacon with them.

Telecomms linking is pretty simple with a mutlitool but kinda smelly do it it personaly without help of AI or engineering (if you have em) but i did mention it Secondly Having a Beacon is usually pointless as nobody ever checks and just recalls the shuttle anyway but with a Hand tele or Teleporter access could prove useful. but a GPS is usually advised and more simple to find

If the explorer shuttle is cucked beyond all reasons use the RnD shuttle and replace the powercell prefered type being yellow slime charged cell.

alongside the only upgrade that is useful for explorer shuttle is a way of teleporation.

Remember people, real explos only use equipment found during their missions! (or it is just my thing)

AI can do it without any help of others, they have a sort of internal multitool.

Using the Science shuttle is a really lame method for those who can’t do fuel management, fuel management is the easiest thing with Exploration too.

You can’t explore on a shuttle that has no shuttle (exploded)

That’s a fair point, but I often see people simply B-line for the Science shuttle as it requires no fuel. Down side of course is that it isn’t their dedicated shuttle, so if someone needs it they will simply take it as they won’t know its not being used. This is also why you as a miner shouldn’t use it to mine on asteroids, as the next miner will simply take the shuttle to get to lavaland, not knowing that they will get you stranded. And antagonists, they simply do not need to care. If they need the shuttle they will take the shuttle. Simply put, use the damn shuttle dedicated for its job!

I would like to add to this:

Unknown - random space ruins (Whiteship, Gondolaland, etc)
Unidentified - Explorer ruins (Where the missions are usually put)
Asteroid - Literally just a rock, good for extra materials
Other things - Shuttles, lavaland, blah blah blah. No, you cannot land on the ice moon. Believe me I tried :pensive_face:

Few cool items not mentioned

Can’t seem to notice but there is no mention of an abandoned Syndicate outpost.
In Unknown regions you can find a blown up satelite with a blue safe in the middle. Blowing up that safe with 4 * c4s will get you either AI weapons module or Syndicate Documents.

Cargo related: How to complete Alien Organs bounty (3x xenomorph organs).

If you show your face with no mask on top of a xenomorph egg, it will pop a facehugger open, at this point you have about 1-2 seconds to close your space helmet back on. Doing so, will let you have a live facehugger, which you can bring back into the station for experimentation.
My approach is to put it in a locker and weld it.
DO NOT ATEMPT TO PICK IT UP, IT WILL DIE

Bring this to xenobiology and they can grow you a sentient xenomorph, that can be harvested for bounty organs.

One good mission can get you ~20k payout, which on exploration vendor can be used to buy Detonator + c4s

Or use your voucher to get an Engineering set, it includes the VERY expensive detonator and three breaching charges.

i Wrote this Guide before all the vouchers and Extra Guns Exploration Recieved but Engineer Kit is easily best Value if not the Ghost Crew Set (Simply because of the Extra Handgun and Bluespace beacon) since Saving Z-Levels is very useful
(IMO- The guns are sorta Mid since they are used as a Primary even tho your pistol is 100x better in a real fight unless your fighting a war of attrition)

Also in Order to Smash a Safe its only 3 C4/Charges however it does destroy some of the loot (documents are indestructable tho) or you could use a stepascope in hand while dialing

  1. Right “Tonk” , “Krunk” , “Plunk”
  2. Left “Tink” , “Krink” , “Plink”
  3. Right again until Big Bold letters Appear then Click open
    (Note) Clink,Clunk or other C ones are just bait so its only those 3

That explains why they didn’t mention a syndie suit, if it’s the same ruin i think it is with the floor safe, you probably blasted it! I usually take the lavaland sci shuttle to explore ^^;
