Incident Description: I joined mid-round as an antag, a bit over an hour in. I got set up as a doctor, and then got settled down to do my antag duties: sabotage bridge equipment and assassinate Oliver Prayer, the security officer. I decided to go for the bridge to leave myself more time to set up a fun way to assassinate my target.

I finish the bombing, hide some evidence, and eventually get spotted after trying to EMP a few more computers. I get searched, and nothing was on me, but eventually my Agent ID that I used was found in maintenance. Kane points at me tells me to face the wall (didn’t tell me what I was being arrested for, but whatever). I get tased and arrested and brought to brig. Kane brigged me for 15 minutes for “Possession, Illegal Inherently Dangerous Equipment”. For an Agent ID they found. That’s not inherently dangerous in the slightest, and it feels like he only put me under that so he could charge me for a Major crime instead of a Misdemeanor, (Possession, Contraband Equipment: To possess equipment not approved for use or production aboard Nanotrasen stations. This includes equipment produced by The Syndicate, Wizard Federation, or any other hostile organization as defined within Code 405.) especially since he’s a long-time player (especially on security) and should know these laws very well. During this arrest as well, I was beaten and hit multiple times. Granted, I did try to escape afterwards, which resulted in much heavier injuries, and those were definitely my fault. However, he dumps me in genpop and leaves me, despite the fact I was half-dead and he blinded me with a flash until my eyes were severely damaged.

I eventually was released after the 15 minutes was over. I did generally nothing for a bit, when I eventually ran into the secoffs again. Kane intimidated me before asking for another search. This felt weird, since I was just released from prison not too long ago (<10 minutes, I think). I complied with the search, and they found nothing again. During this, Kane shoves me over multiple times, and I retaliate with one slash. He proceeds to beat me more and even use a crowbar to slam a firelock on me, again until I was about half health. I go back to medbay, get healed up, and wait again before doing any antagging (I was worried about another search, and indeed there was).

As I waited in medbay, Kane comes back again. He has a warrant to search me and the whole medbay, my third search within around 45 minutes. At this point, I’ve completely given up on my objectives since I’m being searched so often. He does a thorough search of the whole place, and eventually security finds the EMAG that I stashed all the way back when I stashed the agent ID. He arrests me again, and I stop resisting. Kane proceeds to put me in brig for ANOTHER 15 MINUTES. Again, for “posession of inherently illegal dangerous equipment”. This arrest was for the Cryptographic Sequencer, which is explicitly listed as just "Contraband” in space law. Again, Kane should already know this. I was put in brig once more. I was released early, but only because the captain requested it.

I completed one antagonist objective of sabotaging bridge machines. After that, I was harassed and badgered by security (especially Kane) for the entire rest of the round. I can appreciate a harsh, aggressive security force, and I think it can be done right when roleplayed (which, Kane was doing well at times). However, this round was very painful to play for me. I couldn’t do any of my objectives because the majority of my round was taken up by searches and brig time. There were two traitors: me and Sammy. Sammy spent her whole round doing a rat gimmick and was no threat. The blood brothers only started antagging much later on when they stole the secret documents, but that’s it as far as I know. How can people enjoy antagging if this is what you get for doing one objective? Hard-assed security members can be fun, but this was torture for me.

Additional Information: When I asked him about his behavior, he admitted it, but didn’t apologize and just told me to “not play antag”. This is really flippant and not what I would expect from an admin

I feel that while the officer was definitely playing the (moral) villain here, he was very obvious about it and you played right into it for some reason. When the correct moves would be to either go off the radar or just try to kill the man.

I do agree with the report, but it’s purely for the massive wasting of time. Everything else seems like it’s just evil officer rp, but the the whole increasing sentances as much as possible thing is garbage on a meta level. Just like how antags are supposed to bring interesting conflict, security isn’t supposed to just ruin antag rounds either.

Yeah, that’s fair. I really did think about doing at least one of those, but the problem was I didn’t see much hope in it. I was basically the only known antag at that point, and there were 3 secoffs and a captain who was with them about half the time. I could almost never find an officer alone, and I didn’t have enough TC to buy an arsenal to chew through that many people. If I went off the radar, I’d have have to avoid 3 secoffs searching for me throughout the station, and as I was the only moth on the station, I’m not exactly discreet

Lets get to it.

It is true that I did not tell you the reason you were being arrested, because when I arrived there was already an other officer and I assumed they already said it. My bad, that’s on me. Charging you for 15 minutes instead of 10 was also my fault, but still, after telling you what the charge was, you did run away and I had to use other forms of non lethal means to arrest you again, because my stun baton ran out of charges.

As bad as it sounds irl, secoffs are not responsible for your wellbeing in brig. It is warden’s job to do. My only job in genpop is to make sure the criminal I’m processing is stable and breathing.

I was not sure either why there was a second search but I can confirm from logs that i did not instigate this search on you. I simply followed other secoff to assist and conducted the search since they assumed im the one to continue it with the whole “face the wall” shtick.

Obtaining warrant with captain stamps on it for a department search was a result of pressure put from said captain on us to find stolen secret documents.
You were the one potential suspect at the time and we did not find anything on you, so it is logical to search your whole department to find any clues.

So, again, wrong type of crime code, but the 15 minutes were fine at this point, since this was your second time serving for contraband which falls into elevated sentencing modifier bucket.

Now this ones fun. “Captain’s orders” was me releasing you early, trying to give you another chance. Of course I’ve asked captain before to release you early, but my argumentation was to follow you while you recover stashed secret documents. Funnily enough secret docs were found a hot minute later in a scientists satchel.

Here’s some logs to confirm:

00:28:01.101 SAY: Szczebrzeszyn/(Kane Semenov) “captains orders” (Prison Wing (90, 169, 2))

By this clever manuever you only sat about 7 minutes in jail instead of 15.

So hopefully this will absolve my sins of getting you extra 5 minutes longer in jail.

I am not sure if the issue of other antags not going loud until very end or not going loud at all is of any relevance to this report. You were searched 3 times and arrested twice over the span of about 2 hours of which you spent broadly 22 minutes in brig, for clear IC reasons. I can and do try to give people more leeway to fuck around as antag when I am playing as sec, but in your case there was no easy IC way to do this except this one time i mentioned.

What I wanted to say was this game gets especially stressful when you’re playing antag roles and often times you’re going to fuck it up. We all struggle with loosing, because you’re usually building up the momentum from the beginning of the round which can take an hour or two, and then all of it goes to shit because you made one mishap and sec jumps you with the whole gang. It is hard to get over these negative emotions. That is why I advised that its better to not roll for antag roles if you had a longer break, because it probably won’t end with happy ending.

Another one.

Yeah, this one’s partially on me, I panicked a little since you ran at me and I didn’t want to get shovelocked since that seemed to be a theme with you

I don’t remember there being a warden, but I might be wrong.

Why was I the suspect? I had never been near the vault, so there should be no prints or evidence. The only crimes I was found guilty of was contraband with an Agent ID by the time you searched my department. This just seems like I was targeted because I was OOC known as an antag.

This gracious second chance of yours was given mere minutes before the shuttle arrived, so I don’t really think it was your end goal to give me a “chance” to do anything

I latejoined around a little after 1 hour in, and transfer was called a bit after 2 hours iirc

OOC? We found syndicate items with your prints on it, so it makes sense IC to consider you a traitor and well well, traitors do crime, like steal secret documents. Where’s OOC in that?

Yes, I could’ve just packed your ass in cuffs to shuttlebrig and deliver to Centcom, which should be a standard procedure. If you preferred that scenario then I don’t know what to say.

hoping this gets resolved timely :eyes:

Alrighty lets break this down.

You were first arrested because the agent ID that was found had your prints on it. I agree that the sentence should have only been 10 minutes.
We also have a clause in space law though that specifies for minor deviations you should call a lawyer.
I would consider a single incident of a sentence being too high an IC issue.
They should have healed you up in the brig or at least given you basic medical attention if there is no warden or the warden is unable to do his job.
The captain themselves pushed for the stolen items which is also where the second search and later the warrant came from.
The altercation seemed mostly IC between you two and while the usage of the firelock to hurt you a single time was a bit unnecessary, this is something you would bring up to the HOS/captain.
Once they find the emag, they arrest you again and brig you for 15 minutes. At this point we would consider this IC since it is elevated sentencing.
The job of security is to enforce space law so once you satobage the bridge machines it is reasonable to assume you might have played a role there. And on blue alert random searches are allowed.

Overall we consider the ingame-interactions to be pretty much IC. The officers behavior is something you would bring up to the HOS/captain. In the end you got unlucky a couple times and as you yourself said, security didn’t really have other threats to deal with so they had time to focus on you. This did not seem unreasonable or targeted at you (the player) specifically. More so just security doing their job (with the captain’s support) on a round where there weren’t many other threats.

We do agree though that the OOC interactions were not very nice and staff is expected to overall be respectful to any player.
