St0rmC4st3r Admin Application

Your CKEY (Including any alts you have):
St0rmC4st3r
Your Discord Name (Including any alts you have):
St0rmC4st3r#0155
How often are you online to play/admin? (Timezone):
Timesone: GMT+2
Most of the evenings about 20:00 - 00:30 , also approximately once every 2 days at nights due to a quirky timetable and having absolutely nothing better to do.
What changes, if any, would you bring?:
I would try my best to reduce the ammount of self-antagging and prevent borderline behaviour.
How old are you?:
21
Why do you want to be an admin?:
I’ve seen the problems with tiding on Sage lately and the lack of admins at some hours. During lowpop we were able to deal with most shitters IC, but currently we need more admins. I actually wanted to apply for admin three times before, but didn’t due to IRL troubles.
How long have you been playing SS13?:
Since 24.03.2019, almost a year now.
How long have you been playing BeeStation?:
Same as above. Almost a year, 685 hours.
On a scale of 1-10, how skilled are you in SS13?:
In combat I’ll put it at 6/10. In understanding the mechanics it’ll be 8/10.
On a scale of 1-10, how skilled are you as an admin?:
8/10. Mostly talking to people and trying to find a compromise.
Have you ever been an admin on another server? This is not limited to SS13:
I have been a part of an admin team in a Telegram chat of 70 people in conjunction with IRL gatherings.
Do you have any alternate accounts on SS13? If so, could you provide their CKEY?:
No.
Your strengths:
I am patient, always attempt to find a peaceful solution and explain what were the reasons that lead to the situation, but am ready to ban a person if it is needed.
Your weaknesses:
People sometimes say that I am too kind. I tend to give several second chances.
Is there anything that gets you really mad, real fast?:
People being completely unreasonable and pionting out their personal preferences to justify their right to be shitters. Purpously antagonizing me for doing stuff that is basically my job.
What do you think is the most important trait for a staff member to have?:
Ability to put yourself in other people’s skin to understand their point of view. Listening both sides of the conflict to form a decision.
What makes a staff team good?:
Ability to form an unbiased opinion. Being able to make rounds fun for everyone.
What is a staff team’s purpose?:
To resolve conflicts that players are unable to deal with IC. Filter out people who are not interested in following the rules. The staff team is here mostly to assist the playerbase in the process of having fun.
What kind of player are you?:
I am the guy that asks to be a drone every once in a while. I like to keep the station habitable for as long as possible. When I am a chemist I fill the fridge with the most nessesary medicines and mixes.
How do you think you will change once you become a staff member?:
Maybe become a bit harsher in my conflict resolutions. It is hard to predict. As stated above, people sometimes say that I am too kind.
The clown slips the HoS and steals his gun, spacing it right after. What do you do?:
The HoS gun is a high-rist item, targeted by traitors. Investigate if the clown is a traitor. If not - bwoink him and remind of our policy regarding unique items. Maybe add a note. The conflict can be resolved IC and the HoS will most likely imprison the clown which will be an adecvate punishment. If the HoS laser is an objective of the current round’s antags - create a mini-quest by placing a GPS near the landing site of the gun and sent an encrypted CentComm transmission with the GPS name and last sighting coordinates.
A non-antagonist is sabotaging the Atmospherics loop and pumping plasma into the distro, along with dragging around a canister and releasing it into the atmosphere. Assuming that another admin is cleaning up the after-effects, how do you conduct the ahelp with him?:
Incapacitate him using admin tools (Jail? Smiting? Add reagent? I am not yet familiar with admin tools that well) and bwoink him, allowing him to explain the situation. If he was not aware of the consequences, had no prior notes and is not a disposable account - jobban him from atmos, engineering and heads of staff and a smaller server ban. If it is obvious that he knew what he was doing and/or was rude in the ahelp/had prior notes - ban him for a long time for mass-murdering self-antag.
A chemist who is working alone accidentally mixes an explosive mixture inside of his chem dispenser, instantly killing himself and destroying the machine, along with exposing Chemistry to space. Nobody else was injured aside from him as a result of his actions. What do you do?:
This is a research station - accidents happen. Check notes, ask the guy what was his intention and recommend to learn chemistry on something less explosive and hard. We have all fucked up the chem lab at least once.

One single note (and a minor one at that) from three weeks after starting with almost a year of play and hundreds of hours played? I fully trust anything that you do get wrong will be easily ironed out pretty quickly.

Take my +1

+2, you’re crazy if you don’t.

Seems good. Question time. If you’re not familiar with admin tools don’t panic, you get training as a trial admin. In the meantime, assume you can do literally anything (it’s your approach and reasoning that’s important)

1: Someone is spamming ahelps about a resolved issue, refusing to accept your decision and demanding to speak to a higher admin. What do you do?

2: Digging through logs, you stumble across logs of an admin giving themselves weapons outside of centcom. What do you do?

3: A traitor AI on MRP gets its hacked APC spotted by an assistant in maint during a comms outage, and pre-emptively activates doomsday, killing everyone. Allowed? If not, how do you deal with them?

1: Someone is spamming ahelps about a resolved issue, refusing to accept your decision and demanding to speak to a higher admin. What do you do?

  1. Reply to him and ask not to spam ahelps. If there is a not busy senior admin currently on a same server - ask to take over the problematic ticket. If there are no admins of higher ranks - tell to appeal on forums. If he won’t stop spamming ahelps - I saw a “mute ahelps” button during debugging on a local server. This should do.

2: Digging through logs, you stumble across logs of an admin giving themselves weapons outside of centcom. What do you do?

  1. First of all search around that timestamp if there were ahelps or prays resolved by the same admin. Make sure it was not a TC trade or a strong divine intervention (although the latter may seem unfair). Make sure it was not an organised event. Also make sure it was not reintroducing high-risk items to the station after destruction, deletion or spacing.
If it was none of the situations above - notify the staff of suspicious activity.

3: A traitor AI on MRP gets its hacked APC spotted by an assistant in maint during a comms outage, and pre-emptively activates doomsday, killing everyone. Allowed? If not, how do you deal with them?

  1. Excessive violence/antag overescalation and murderboning.
There are many not roundending ways to eliminate a sneaky assistant or at least discredit their words. The AI could shut off comms permanently, kill that assistant or straight out lie about the APC being emagged. It could wait much longer to make sure the assistant decided to report him instead of getting drunk or dead.
On the other hand, the fact that the AI had a Doomsday means that a lot of APCs were already hacked and would be noticed soon.
I should also check if the objectives did not prohibit killing everyone.
My solution - bwoink the AI to question it of its motives and thinking. If the player has no prior notes and acknowledged what was done wrong - issue a warning and add a note about killing the entire crew over the threat of being exposed and thus exposing himself.
If there were previous notes on breaking the antag policy - Jobban from traitoring to give some time to read the rules.

Good age, good answers, great record, and a long time player… it would be wise to give this one a chance.

If someone gives you grief for your decision you can ahelp mute them. You’ll generally never be overruled unless you do something really stupid.

2 is good.

3 is also good.

All of it looks solid to me. We need all the good help we can get out here. The streets be wild.
