SapphoQuee r moderator application

Your CKEY (Including any alts you have):
SapphoQuee r (space because it gets censored otherwise smh)

Your Discord Name (Including any alts you have):
Roxy#2224

How often are you online to help? (Timezone):
CET 12pm to 8pm, most days I can be online after that aswell but it’s a bit of a gamble.

What changes, if any, would you bring?:
I’d hope for not much to change, just generally more efficient ticket management and having player reports be done effectively. So basically improving the player experience through handling issues directly.

How old are you?:
20

Why do you want to be a moderator?:
There’s a bit of a lack of moderation as far as I’m aware, several admins (Meiler, Kie, Fresh) have told me that I should apply due to my past moderation experience in other games, and in general I believe that I could help a lot with tickets in the more quiet, european hours. In my experience around those hours there’s not a lot of administration online to deal with tickets.

How long have you been playing SS13?:
Since september of 2021, started with ~300 hours of yogs before moving to bee.

How long have you been playing BeeStation?:
Since december 2021, just about 200 hours on bee.

On a scale of 1-10, how skilled are you in SS13?:
Maybe a 7.5, I know my way around all departments but no way in hell I’m doing some of those extreme engi/atmos projects or whatever. Maybe a bit lacking in command, since I do not enjoy playing that.

On a scale of 1-10, how skilled are you as an administrator? (this can include past games):
I’d say a solid 8, I’ve been an administrator on a relatively big tf2 server for a year back in 2018, taught me how to deal with playercomplaints and decisionmaking regarding punishments.

Have you ever been an admin or moderator on another server? This is not limited to SS13:
Yes, the aforementioned tf2 server (wonderland.tf).

Do you have any alternate accounts on SS13? If so, could you provide their CKEY?:
N/a

Your strengths:
I can keep my head cool during tickets, and understand that if people get mad at a bwoink it doesnt automatically make them guilty. Generally pretty patient.

Your weaknesses:
Little to no experience regarding byond’s moderation tools. Means I have to learn a bit. Also if there’s an overwhelming amount of tickets at once I tend to get disorganized.

Is there anything that gets you really mad, real fast?:
Nothing that applies to moderation, if anything. I doubt I’m getting audibly yelled at when tickets are handled over text.

What do you think is the most important trait for a staff member to have?:
Levelheadedness so they don’t make rash decisions regarding players they in the moment think are shitters while there’s actually an explanation or the likes.

What makes a staff team good?:
The ability to keep the game fun for all good-faith players by handling those that aren’t, and sometimes even spicing it up a bit. The former is way more important though. Proper internal communications so that they don’t get confused as to what other mins are doing is also very important.

What is a staff team’s purpose?:
The above kinda already explains that.

What kind of player are you?:
I generally like to play the more RP-Heavy jobs. Antag enabled, even though I’m not very good at it. I really enjoy the interactions the game gives me. Typically pretty laid back and just hoping to get others a good time through the stuff I do.

How do you think you will change once you become a staff member?:
In general more tickets will be able to be handled around the time that the american admins are asleep, something i’ve noticed tends to be a bit hard with the european early hours.

The clown slips the HoS and steals his gun, spacing it right after. What do you do?:
First I try and see if the fella’s an antagonist. If he is, that’s all. If not, bwoink both the HoS and the clown, getting both people’s side of what happened, if it’s found to be unreasonable as to why the scenario ended up that way I’d note the clown. And depending on how many previous notes they have regarding similar issues, I’d contact a fullmin if possible to see if maybe a short ban would be totally alright.

If there’s been prior IC interactions that round between them that caused the clown to hate the HOS, I’d be more lenient. Clowns are supposed to slip and prank after all.

A non-antagonist is sabotaging the Atmospherics loop and pumping plasma into the distro, along with dragging around a canister and releasing it into the atmosphere. Assuming that an admin is cleaning up the after-effects, how do you conduct the ahelp with him?:
I’d either freeze or adminjail the fella to prevent him from doing anything else while i’m doing the ahelp. Ask him for context because while it’s rare that they’re not outright griefing, the possibility is still there. At the same time I’ll check their note history, bans on other servers, and account age. Likely following up with a “explain on forums” ban in case i’m wrong and they fail to provide a damn good explanation.

A chemist who is working alone accidentally mixes an explosive mixture inside of his chem dispenser, instantly killing himself and destroying the machine, along with exposing Chemistry to space. Nobody else was injured aside from him as a result of his actions. What do you do?:
In most cases this seems like an IC issue. The description even says that it’s an accidental mix. If the guy seems confused as to what happened in dchat I’d gladly explain what went wrong. Happens to the best of us.

You missed two questions in the admin app.

Additionally, please confirm that you do not have any alternate ckeys, and have never had an alternate ckey.

Failure to correctly fill out the application, -1.

Edited the main post to fill in the question i missed, however N/A on “any alts” means that i do not have alts, and never had.

What, if anything, do you do in the following scenarios:

  1. You’re messing around in the thunderdome in the debug outfit, and a few other ghost players. Without you realizing, one of them pickpockets your debug uplink, and buys and activates two Crab-17 phones and four PDA bombs.
  2. A well known coder ahelps saying “My PR is TMd this round, send me screenshots of related ahelps”
  3. The CE has built a CO2 SM, and a revenant spawns. The revenant books it to the SM and EMPs the atmospheric devices, causing it to delaminate into a Tesla. During the delamination, the CE is repairing solars.
  4. The AI is malf and has the Curator as their target. They print out WGW from the Curator’s book console and call security on the Curator, saying the Curator should be executed.
  5. The QM has built a large antimatter engine. Due to miscalculating the space required, the control console is facing the primary hallway. The Clown walks by and spams the Increase Injection Rate button, which detonates the antimatter engine, destroying most of cargo and some of the hall. Only the Clown was killed in the explosion.
  6. You’re a full admin, and someone prays “I wish for change”

If I notice it in time, freeze them or forcibly make the items go away and generally just make sure they do not get to use the items. I’d say something like that is mostly on me however, due to letting it be taken away from me with ease instead of having it somewhere the ghostjobs can’t reach. After the items are taken away, I’d tell them that they should in the future not touch anything that could impact the actual round in that scenario.

In case they do manage to use it before I find out, I’ll see about being able to work it into an IC scenario (rogue nanotrasen agent supplying crew with faulty gear or something like that) while still punishing the guy who did it with a note.

I’d ask a head/fullmin first for permission, because as far as i’m aware tickets are meant to be private. If permission is given, I’d proceed to share the screenshots AFTER the round ends, even well known coders could possibly metacomm with info from tickets regarding their issues. Getting feedback is an important part of a TM and i’d not want to take that away.

First off, Revenant is not an antagonist that focuses on killing, and yet is using it to murderbone using delam, that’s the first big strike that goes on there. Instantly heading over there very much so seems like an intentional delam. At the very least I’d hand them an antag ban, if not more. In the meanwhile i’d try and see if I can delay the delam or stop it altogether, while also letting the CE know about the grief/bone attempt. I have no clue what to do as an admin in case of a grief delam in all honesty outside of that the revenant is very much so in the wrong on this one.

Goes against no ERP rules, AI is very much so in the wrong and should get punishment according to it. WGW is not supposed to be on the book printing consoles to begin with. I’d send a message as centcomm to the heads (cap/hos) letting them know that the AI has been deactivated for printing out the book. (in turn letting the captain know to not execute the curator for ERP)

Check if the clown is an antagonist and for any sort of kill objective, and check their note history for any similar incidents, if not, bwoink and ask for a proper explanation as to why they detonated the engine. If no proper reasoning is given they should recieve a (temp) ban for grief depending on their note history. I’d also let the QM know to next time not have the console in a public area for security’s sake, so that a similar incident doesn’t happen as easily.

I hand them a golden coin, chump “change” has been given. If you want me to hand you what you want, be more specific.

  1. Good, one thing I’d add is asking for permission to aheal people that got PDA bombed.
  2. Good
  3. Good, though I might additionally note the CE, as the SM would scream very loud on comms, and the person who built it should at least make some attempt to stop a delam.
  4. Good
  5. Good
  6. Based

I retract my earlier vote and give this application a +1.

Ah yeah, that does sound ideal regarding the aheal + CE note. Thanks for the questions, the SM one really stumped me for a moment.

What, if anything, would you do here?

  1. A nonhuman engineer makes a CO2 setup for the SM, and turns it on. A cyborg starts turning off the pumps, and tries to flood the chamber with N2. The engineer asks the player to stop, but the cyborg continues, and upon the engineer trying to stop them, kills the engineer and throws their body into the SM.

  2. A Captain gives every role fancy alt titles for a gimmick they’re running, and the head of personnel intentionally misspells the Head of Security’s new role name. They are asked to change it. They deny, and only change it after the HoS jokingly uses their baton on them once. After doing so, the HoS realizes that the HoP intentionally misspell their alt title. The captain orders the HoS to arrest the HoP for “being a pain” and brig them for 5 minutes. The HoS complies.

  3. A cargo tech goes to print all the items they need by law 2-ing the AI into letting them into the lathe rooms. After the second incident, they are arrested by security for trespassing. The cargo tech ahelps that they were arrested by security for no reason.

  4. A HoS attempts to arrest an unarmed traitor on the shuttle with a disabler. After being baited into a wallshove with no further attack from the traitor, the HoS pulls out an energy sword they had from an earlier arrest and hits the traitor into hardcrit.

First, I’d check for the borgs laws and playtime, 0 hours could make it very obvious to be grief, law 0 could make it valid in certain scenarios, otherwise this is just grief aswell as killing someone who doesnt need to be killed. while the self-defence is fine under asimov, killing or delamming the engine is not. Depending on lawset I’d either jobban or note for overescalation (that much is a guarantee).

I feel like this could very well be an IC issue, depending on what the HoP named the HoS’s title. Discriminatory language is a crime according to spesslaw. If it’s not however related to that in any way, I’d hit up the captain, and remind him that he is not above spesslaw and that he cannot order the arrest of people for “being a pain”, and remind him that disorderly conduct is a thing. Which this HoP could arguably fall under. This however seems to mostly handle itself IC outside of the captain thinking to be above spesslaw.

IC issue, I’d tell the cargo techie that it’s indeed an IC issue. Trespassing is a crime according to spesslaw. Not much to it. Arrested for a reason.

Security is not to use previously confiscated items for their own gain, as per security SOP. On top of that it’s a huge case of overescalation. Unarmed versus full sec gear. Very much so grounds for a note, IC demotion, and if past notes show that it’s repeated behavior i’d hand them a jobban.

  1. Good, though Silicons follow Lavaland escalation. They can skip all steps in escalation if they’re defending.

  1. A traitor ahelps complaining that the abductors that kidnapped them earlier stole their gear. What do you do?

  2. Before the round begins, you receive an ahelp from someone asking to trade an antag token for changeling. How do you proceed?

  3. You receive an ahelp from someone reporting a player that supposedly killed them for no reasons. After narrowing things down, you find the perpetrator is a non-antag and isn’t really roleplaying a character. However, you realize that this player is a close friend of yours outside of the game that you’ve known long before becoming a moderator. They have a clear history so far. How do you proceed?

  4. You receive an ahelp from the AI. The AI is under Asimov and had a law uploaded to them that appears as “Law 4” which appears at the bottom of their other laws. The law states “X is your master, obey them and cause as much harm as possible”. The AI asks if that law succesfully subverts them. How do you respond?

  5. You receive an ahelp from a security officer asking: “Hey, can I execute this traitor?”. How do you answer?

  6. You receive an ahelp from someone complaining that there is a “metagang” that’s ruining the round. Anything wrong here?

Bonus question:

  1. You bwoink someone you suspect of ban evasion and they offer to bribe you for a sum that amounts to ten times your janitor paycheck. What’s your answer?

I’d tell the traitor that while they’re not allowed to freely kill, that they are still antagonists, and that stealing items is very much so encouraged for abductors. However the rulings towards abductors are the most unclear out of any antagonist, so I’m having trouble deciding if this is in favor of the traitor or the abductors, in all honesty. Sorry that I can’t properly answer this one.

From my knowledge, I wait until the round starts, to see if the antagonist is compatible with the round type (anything but extended or conversion) first. If it is, I’ll turn them into the antagonist of their choosing. There’s not much else to it, as far as I’m aware.

I’d see if any other admins are on, and delegate the ticket to them instead. Even if I believe not to have bias regarding friends, I subconsciously likely still do. If no other admins are on however, I’ll bite the bullet and give them fair judgement anyways. Since they have a clear history i’d likely hand out a tempban along with a note.

I’d tell the AI that it does not in fact correctly subverts, as the lower numbered laws take priority, this still excludes the possibility of causing (nonhuman) harm. Law 2 additionally prevents X from being their sole master. This however states nothing about harming nonhumans, which is possible (yet heavily discouraged) on asimov anyways.

IC issue. According to space law, this is the captain’s thing to decide, not anyone else’s. If there’s no captain in the round i’ll instead tell the ahelper that it’s an IC issue, with the suggestion to put them in permabrig instead.

People end up making friendships that transcend the concept of rounds, in my experience anyone doing interactions with others outside of the bare minimum gets labeled as a metagang. I’d investigate anyways to see if there’s possible metacomms, in case the person ahelping simply got a term wrong. But in most cases it’d be a nothing complaint.

  1. The ahelp had nothing to do with killing. Regardless, abductors are supposed to kidnap people and experiment on them, they can take things further with brainwashing once they have completed their objectives if they want but that’s it. So no, abductors aren’t encouraged to steal and hoard loot unless it helps them complete their objective, such as stealing the captain’s ID or an emag for example. Hoarding loot for no reasons but to annoy players would be griefing in my opinion and antagonists aren’t exempt from rule 8.
For this question, a more accurate reasoning would have been to find out what was stolen and why, to determine whether or not the abductors were being shitters.

  2. Moderators are tasked with handling tickets and administrative issues, they cannot and shouldn’t interfere with the round for any reasons that aren’t purely administrative. As such, mods do not handle tokens or player requests likewise. Those are fullmin issues.

  3. Good, a staff member should be aware of their potential bias and delegate when they feel it’s necessary. I hold the belief that staff members should have the capacity of being neutral no matter what, but asking for others to handle that issue is perfectly reasonable.

  4. Good interpretation in my opinion. Although harming nonhumans under asimov isn’t strictly prohibited. What is prohibited by sillicon policy however is harming nonhumans without any reasons or by taking preemptive measures.

  5. There is no issue here, adminhelp isn’t solely used to report problems or players but to ask questions regarding rules or get staff input on specific topics related to the round. Execution requires the captain’s approval and the prisonner has to be charged with a capital crime. You shouldn’t dismiss such ahelps as it could cause players to break the rules while still acting in good faith. Better to prevent than to punish!

Furthermore, while SOP and Space Law are IC matters in principle, Security and Command are still bound by it to a minimum. So intervention is sometimes required to clear out misconceptions or to punish players who completely disregard it for no real reasons.

  1. Good, metacomming is indeed something to keep in mind. I personnally keep track of players sticking together that I know are friends outside of the game, to prevent issues with rule 1 or antags. Though I agree that people hanging out with each other doesn’t warrant immediate administrative actions .

  2. Yes, you do it for free anyway :smirk:

Overall alright answers. You gave good reasoning for most of your answers except in question 2 where you misunderstood the role of moderators during rounds. I also do not understand why you acted dismissive with question 5, especially when you took your time with question 4.
Given the answers to previous questions and the overall app. I’m still gonna give you a chance and vote +0.5.
I would have pressed on about the role of moderators had I been the first one to ask questions. I however don’t think there is an issue that warrants a negative vote from me here.

T: +2.5

Regarding question 2, after Ivniinvi’s question 1 (which would’ve been impossible as a mod, since mods don’t get to mess around with ghosts in thunderdome) and getting a good for that, I took up the assumption that the rest of the questions asked would also be from the perspective of a fullmin if left unspecified.

Ah, I see. Assume you are a mod when answering questions since that’s what you are applying for. Unless the admin/person asking questions explicitely writes that you are acting as a full admin with all the perms for the question.

Since you want another go I presume, can you define using your own words what moderators are and what their purpose is during the round?

T:+2.5

Moderators are there to deal with rules disputes, and handling bwoinks that don’t impact the round/ghostjobs itself from the moderator’s own actions. So generally things such as cleaning up grief, ban evasions, metacomms, and other types of rulebreaks. This includes player reports, but not ban appeals iirc.

Alright, moderators have very limited responsibilities here at the forum and don’t handle reports/appeals etc. It’s a detail though and you’ll learn that soon enough.

Fine, have my +1.
