Remove disarm

Just go on help intent yourself? You can use all weapons in help intent (except fists), and the other person will have to slow down if they want to harm/shove/grab you. People can run away from melee enemies now, does that make our current combat system useless?

Just from this thread you can tell the removal would be rather controversial. I’m not sure if we want changes that will split the community.

Trying to pick apart whether it’s genuine complaints or just people who have mastered the current system being afraid of change.

Especially those afraid of change that makes them unable to charge into armed fights barehanded expecting to win.

Is the forced slowdown actually the issue, or is it just the thought of changing? There’s many ways to solve the issue of how easy it is to disarm players, down to even simply removing knockdown from being shoved into a wall with no other changes.

Its a hefty nerf to unarmed combat capability, yes, even if it’s just removing wall shoves.

Forced slowdown sounds lame. I like going fast.

No.

As for the rest of the discussion, it wouldn’t change much at all. It’d just be a matter of juggling intents which sounds misearble.

Like you’d just switch over to disarm for a split second to shove, then back to help while you wait for the attack cooldown and dodge a bit, then you just repeat. I don’t think this solves much besides fucking people with ping over even more since I know how unresponsive switching intents can be on high ping.

Yeah i hope that whatever comes in the future based on this and other suggestions don’t fuck people with +200 ping even more, we’re quite a few

Disarming is a balance against weapons.

I think we should entirely remove intents. Instead, all players should play their rounds not as a human or cyborg, but as a Los Angeles Class Nuclear Powered Fast Attack Submarine: this would replace all intents with a variable called “depth”. Players could go either higher or lower while moving about the halls or fighting, and the difference in depth would determine their ability to see each other.

Eyes and ears would be merged into a single organ: the BQQ-5 sonar sensor set, and players would have to face their opponent to attack them without a weapon, as their fists are replaced by MK48 ADCAP guided torpedoes. This would present an interesting choice for the players and encourage dynamic combat.

Traitors would be able to activate silent running mode to hide themselves.

What do you think about my excellent idea?

The combat system is a fundamental part of a SS13 server. I like Beestation because it’s a roleplay server on TGCode, which I prefer over Baycode or Paradise.

There already exist servers with slower, more dynamic modes of gameplay/combat. We shouldn’t try to change the server to be more like them to sacrifice our niche of being a fast-paced roleplay server, where combat and rounds can end in under an hour.

I don’t have the time to invest in a 3-hour shift, and I’m sure there are plenty of people who also prefer faster-paced shifts compared to longer shifts that place heavier emphasis on roleplay than Beestation currently does.

We’re in a good, healthy medium spot right now, and shifting drastically more towards a HRP-style server with longer shifts and slower combat is a bad idea that will alienate a good chunk of the community.

wyci when you code it

I hate to break it to you, but what you want and enjoy out of the server is in pretty stark contrast to where the server is trying to be. As I’ve said many times while I was a headmin: Beestation is an RP server, not a combat server.

The fact the code we have constantly attracts the kinds of players that aren’t necessarily desirable is proof it needs to change, unless there is a sudden shift toward wanting to stay in an arcadey style.

There are plans to port substantial chunks of Bay in the future, there’s even prominent memes about it in our discord.

Plannedemic. Imo, combat system should stay as it is. Disarms shouldnt hardstun, though.

remove death, when you are dead you are no longer participate in round and can no longer rollplay. without death everyone will be able to rolllpay more. this is good and moves the game away from a combat focus and towards roleplae focus where evryone has to use /me in fights to describe what they are doing. this is called roplait

They don’t currently? That happens when you get shoved into a wall a second time after being knocked down (which is pretty much guaranteed to happen, but still not technically the disarm that does it)

yeah yeah you get what i mean. Wallstuns, if you so inclined

Usually you just move away from the wall or start shoving back as soon as you can to avoid being wallshoved again. I have never had an issue with being chain-stunned by wallshoves.

NSV is that way⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
