- Yes, it’s a good mode
- No, never at all
- Maybe, if it gets tweaked/fixed

I LOVE DEVILS
Devils is a cool mode but usually just ends up being a giant clusterfuck.
Usually with everyone just tiding and breaking shit using the powers given to them by devils.
On the other hand, shouldnt that be the point? In the end you sell your soul to the devil and risk permanent death.
In my humble opinion, sec rushing the devils is what killed this gamemode. Its fun to sell powers and trade shit for souls and upgrades. You know whats not fun? Getting baited by sec to give them contract, getting buckshoted, gagged, straightjacketed and then killed over and over and over and over and over again.
In response devils tend to spam fireball, and instead of a"whacky merchant with a twist" round you get warzone between devils and tiders vs security.
Give devils some upgrades to turn sec from killing them, and make Codex Gygax method more streamlined and less criptic. Make security feel like they are trying to banish the devil not hunt some discount lizard wizard.
This gamemode has a great potential, but it needs a lot of work and care to click.
What kills the game mode is players not understanding that making a deal with the devil doesn’t make you an antagonist.
I beg to differ. In most of the rounds i played, sec would give out lethals and declare war on all devils and crew who sold their souls. If you got any powers, you would get killed ( i remember being gunned down for “shitting too much gold and diamonds”). After that, Hulks and Magic users would try to raid the brig and it would all end in bloodshed.
Sometimes it would go the other way. The assistants would break in and force sec to turn into 3rd Reich. Most of the time tho, if sec heard about devils, their reaction was " GET GUNS BOIS WE GOIN HUNTING", and then rambling for the rest of the round that contract holders are valid.
On the other hand, not gonna lie “lightningbolt” spell was abused quite a lot in assistant fights. But it deals no damage and its annoying at most.
The devil is an existential threat to the station, it’s the job of security to remove devils. Crew who sign contracts directly increase the devil’s power and are enemies of the corporation because NT owns their soul already. The side of the game you’re complaining about is intended.
What’s unclear is that players signing contracts do not become antagonists, but are expected to be treated like antagonists by the station and either killed or deconverted via contract with NT by heads/security and then imprisoned.
Players that get powers exist in a strange limbo where they’ve helped the round antagonist and gained some sort of power that strongly encourages breaking server rules in most cases - There needs to be clearly defined rules for the mode, or those that have signed contracts should be allowed to antag that can’t kill.
Also devil weaknesses are never followed by the devils. They just act like they don’t exist.
Issues with Devils:
Devils work well with other antags in the round but fail by themselves.
devils need to be tidied up and made a bit better and then reinjected into the game
Devils need to be reworked pretty much.
That would just change devils from roleplay antag to stupidly powerful antag buffer.
Devils are just too powerful for midround antag
Space Dragon and space ninja are midround antags that are allowed to just fuck the station sideways from the moment they spawn.
What do you mean devil is too strong for midround?
Both ninja and dragon dont buff already existing antags
Would you consider completely wiping all of the current antags off the face of existence more or less enjoyable than making them a bit stronger? Because that’s all ninja and dragon do.
also literally remember that blob and lone ops are also midround antags. not sure what you’re getting at here.
Actually on MRP we had some midround/side antags as devils.
It worked pretty good.
I always thought what kills the game mode is the antagonists start off incredibly weak, must expose themselves to progress, and are vulnerable to being instantly dunked on when they expose themselves.
Psst, devil doesn’t spawn as midround
They were spawned via admemery as midround
Antag limitations should be enforced by mechanics in code, not through server rules and role play.
I also imagine devils hasn’t been properly updated in a long time.
Fix it and testmerge.
