Problems with the detective conceptually

split detective into 2 roles - one is actual detective, which is above seccie but below warden, and private investigator which is old detective, but without revolver.

Why? IRL i worked as police detective and it’s always a promotion over normal officer, at least in my country - should be same here i think. On other hand, private investigator fits right into nour detective theme and it’s a civilian job with some sec access ( since most of them are former detectives).

What would happen if you removed lawyer and detective entirely from the game and just had forensic gear be something freely available in sec lockers?

Would it really change the flow of most rounds?

The only gameplay difference I can think of is that lawyers are great targets for revs and cult because they have sec access but no sec gear to defend themselves with.

But then we lose the cool noir theme!

I get what you mean, but I think you need detective or nearly no one would really be a – well – detective. To remove detective from sec would reduce it entirely to just a group of valid hunters, with maybe the occasional savvy officer scanning for prints at a crime scene before they wordlessly taze and jail whoever they think did the crime. What troubles detective right now isn’t obsolesence, it’s their lack of specialisation. Right now, detective is too similar to a security officer, which makes them prone to valid-hunting. Removing the weapons and further emphasising forensics is absolutely the best way to retain the value of a detective without making them a sec officer with a cool jacket, like you suggest.

Following @nothanksdog’s suggestion, making the detective seperate from the NT security body and instead making them a member of ‘Spacepol’ could also let you have a role like lawyer with obligations outside of being really annoying, which could help address the problems you have with the two roles. The only downside I can see to this solution is that it would take work to make these changes, rather than slicing out chunks of the game and patching the holes.

You know what i think would be a good addition? Detective being able to perform autopsy report.

Example, a body is found in maints, upon examination detective can get (not exact) rough time on how long body was dead, what kind of damage they suffered and from what.

If it was for example an attack from esword the examination (which would be good if it took 15 seconds or more of standing still near body to do) it would say “seems like they were attacked with something extremely hot” thing like that.

This would not only increase RP but help detective assess threat of a culprit and warn security (this would also be fun because autospy reports can be exaggerated and dramatic)

You can kind of perform an autopsy report now. Turn on the medical scanner in your PDA and hit a body, it’ll tell you how long ago their death was. Adding more flavor text and forensics to it would be cool though

I think a possible solution for part of this could be to have TRAC rounds do no damage, because they’re still lethal ammo I barely use them as detective because I don’t just want to shoot a suspect with a lethal round.

More leaning towards hints of murder ways and weapons, otherwise you are correct.

Wierd thought I just had.

Allow detective to make arrests.

BUT.

Take away their revolver and restrict them from having sec weapons/flashes/disablers/power gamer gear.

If they want to arrest people they gotta do it with their fists.

Remove det lol lmao xD
