I have been playing Odako for some time now (nearly a year!), so I’d be interested to hear some opinions and such from you all about her.
Mostly she is a secoff but as of late I have been testing out different jobs for her, namely Medical and Engineering, each one exists in their own alternate, separate timeline.
Now I don’t feel this would be complete without a lore dump for them all, so here is the block of text of lore for each job of Odako, hidden inside these little sections…
Secoff, The Go-getter cheeseball Odako
Odako Jaskeki;
Date of Birth: 2533 y
Age range during employment: 20-21.
Assignment: Security Officer cadet.
Birthplace: Unchartered planetary Colony.
Personality: Outgoing, Boisterous, Cheery, Air headed.
Age at death: 21, year: 2554
A bright energetic youth, Odako grew up in the green valleys of the small planet with her parents and two older siblings.
Not knowing anything about where her parents came from, only that they were born on a distant planet, she was horrified when a spaceship arrived, arrested her parents, siblings and herself, along with a few other families on the planet. They were all then deported to a harsh jungle planet, where they were to live out a primitive exile.
Here she met Torika, Yamatoro, Tsubasa and Yoshi, a similar story behind each as to why they were here.
As they grew older together, they made plans in the event that, if any spaceship arrived, they would hijack it and attempt to escape the planet.
Most of the time visitors to the planet were hostile, and attempted unsuccessful raids upon the village.
One day, a devastating raid took place, a black shuttle landed and eviscerated the majority of the population. Odako and her friends managed to take down a few of the foes, eventually they managed to make the raiders retreat back to space.
The remaining villagers succumbed to their wounds, leaving behind a wasted, decimated, corpse filled tomb of a village to Odako and her group.
They hoped there was other villages on the planet, and so, after burying their loved ones and inscribing the events on stone tablets in the village, they departed to find a new village.
After days of walking with nothing in sight but jungle, they were visited by an NT shuttle, landing nearby, the group clutched their firearms tightly as the NT officials walked closer.
They spoke to the group about their Valliant fight against the raiders, how they would be of great use to NT, serving under them as Officers to uphold space law in NT territory.
The group accepted the offer seeing it as their only way out from the planet, and after a long shuttle ride to a cadet training facility, they passed trials, and began their 4 year training to become qualified NT Peace keepers. During that time, Odako had developed strong feelings toward Yoshi, and he likewise had feelings for her. They never formally told each other however, and would never get the chance…
Odako only barely passed her exams, scoring rather low due to her inability to focus on the assignments. Most often her papers were handed in with flowers drawn along the border. She dreamed of growing spectacular flowers, but more often her mind was drawn back to the goal of peacekeeping by memories of past events…
Once they had reached graduation, the group made a pact
“No matter where we are, what has, or will happened, we will strive for peace and justice”
As they all parted ways to different sectors, Odako was given desk jobs, sorting through paperwork of past crimes, categorizing them, and being told to burn numerous folders after showing them to her superiors. All the while she dreamt of botanical endeavors.
4 years later, she was given an active role in enforcing peace keeping aboard NT aligned research stations.
For 1 month, she kept the peace on quiet research stations.
During this short time she had a brief assignment aboard space station 13.
After 2 months, as she was off duty taking care of Yoshi’s pet cat Takogiri, she was murdered in Yoshi’s apartment.
She had been shot 3 times in the head, and her neck was sliced in the shape of an S, the apartment had been ransacked.
Yoshi, who had been the one to find her body in his apartment, devoted the rest of his years trying to track down who murdered her…
Medical, The weak heart Odako
Date of Birth: 2533 y
Age range during employment: 19-75
Assignment: Medical Doctor.
Birthplace: NT residential sector 54
Personality: Air headed, Cheery, Melancholic.
Age at death: 75, year: 2608
Born as the second child, Odako’s condition was frail, the doctors diagnosis was that her heart was irreparably fragile and would one day give out.
Odako’s older brother was sent off early in Odako’s youth, to an educational institute where he would work towards a high profile position. As such, she never became familiar with him, and rarely ever interacted with each other throughout their lives.
Growing up, her parents focused her studies towards becoming a medical practitioner, she initially refused but due to increased pressure she kept up with her medical studies.
Her parents had also adopted an odd religion, a variant of Buddhism, which denied one from altering their bodily composition via artificial means, doing so would result in a lowly reincarnation.
It was around this time that her heart condition was discovered, but due to the odd religion, her parents refused the only possible treatment- a cybernetic heart.
Odako grew tired of the religions lectures, but out of fear of reprimand she held her tongue, however she never stopped dreaming of growing wings and escaping out into the universe.
Due to the pressure of her studies, she never had time for romance or friendships, something she envied amongst her peers.
After she had graduated from her studies at age 19 (passed with an average grade, something her parents never let her live down) her brother had arranged for her to work as a Doctor for Nanotrasen.
There she worked for another 30 years, tending to the injuries of those aboard NT space stations, and the occasional Battle cruiser.
At age 75, Odako decided to go to her home world to see her old family house and neighbourhood, and go for an air scooter ride across the fields of her childhood.
A bird slammed into her face whilst flying, knocking her off the scooter and rolling her into a grove of geraniums, as she tried to stand, her heart gave out.
Her body laid peacefully in the grove for a month before she was found.
Engineering, The deaf depressed Odako
Date of Birth: 2533 y
Age range during employment: 20-35
Assignment: Engineer.
Birthplace: Sol Residential complex 198, Theta sector
Personality: Timid, Anxious, Depressed, Introverted.
Age at death: ??, year: ???
Odako’s mother died during her birth, leaving her father to take care of two children, Odako and her older brother.
Her father was a stern, unsympathetic man, characteristics perhaps exacerbated due to the passing of his wife.
During her teenage years Odako started to blame herself and feel a sense of guilt around the death of her mother, feelings that would stick with her for the rest of her life.
During this time period she focused her mind on inventing machines as a distraction from the inner turmoil of her emotions and the failing relationships with her family and friends.
At age 17, whilst attending a demonstration of a new atmospheric supply machine, AGSS-X1, it malfunctioned and detonated, taking with it the life of her brother and causing her eardrums to explode, deafening her permanently and traumatizing her.
After she failed engineering university, she pursued various fix up jobs around the system with varying levels of success.
Constantly suffering inner turmoil and torment due to past events, she struggled to bring her focus on making any meaningful contacts with people.
A spiral that would only deepen as time went on…
At age 35, after failing to provide suitable electricity to a station under the sponsor of a VIP, Odako fails to show up at the next scheduled job.
Her manager came by to her flat to talk to her, but the flat was devoid of life.
A quick search showed all her personal belongings were still there, no signs of a departure.
But Odako was nowhere to be found.
The only clue as to what happened to her was a messy table covered with scrunched up papers containing scribbles of machines with indecipherable words written across.
On top of all the papers, was a note with the words “I’ll do better next time” sharply and squarely written into the paper.
On the desk were shreds of wire.
