Lethally shotgunning an already detained person repeatedly and blamed it on lag. Appeal Reason:
When the events of the Ban happened my game was lagging a lot, so what happened on the shuttle was pretty chaotic for me. I couldn’t tell what was happening really so when I saw the hostile person that had shot at security and was even set for arrest on the ground I shotgunned them multiple times until they died to stop them, thinking they still had a weapon and they could still attack. Only after they had died I realised what happened and my mistake, and for that I’m sorry for wrongfully killing that person. (This is also why I “blamed it on lag”, as when I got the message by the admin I couldn’t write much on the reply without making the game freeze for me so I just wrote what was basically a summary of what happened.)
From my understanding of the DMs you sent to different admins before making the appeal plus what you said in public channels talking to me, you mostly wanted to clear up what happened during the incident right?
Does the ban reason seem unclear or incomplete to you, or do you believe the ban was wrongfully applied? Re-reading it I definitely could have worded it a bit more gently but I do think the core statement is correct and the ban is justified.
I fully understand what happened in the situation, and also understand that mistakes can happen, but I don’t think lag is a valid reasoning for the mistake that was made here even if you were experiencing it (and I included that reasoning in the ban to clarify). Even from your point of view the person was already laying down on the ground. From a security standpoint, someone already laying on the ground and not actively causing harm should be identified as unable to fight back.
Since this isn’t the first incident you’ve had as security I believe that you should stick to some non-security roles for a while to diversify and build your overall experience a bit more. Playing as and understanding other jobs will make you a better and more empathetic security officer.
An admin suggested i’d make an appeal to clear up what exactly happened so i followed through. Honestly, i don’t really expect for the appeal to be approved because, as you said, lag or not, it’s still my fault and i should’ve been more careful. For me, the appeal can be swiftly be denied because i understand how i messed up and how i should repay for said mistake. So in the end i’m fine with the decision to ban me temporarily from security jobs.
The ban reason could be worded a bit differently since it seems like i randomly lethally shotgunned a person to death and then blamed the shooting action itself on lag, when that isn’t what happened at all. I clarified what exactly happened, and the wording of the ban was why i wanted to do it, fearing that you might’ve gotten the wrong idea. Overall, i appreciate you taking the time to read my “appeal” and read through the replies. Good Day/Night.
If thats the case, we can probably adjust the ban reason to be a bit more clear, but good on you for just taking the ban when you know you’ve done something wrong <3
