Nitrous oxide?

when you make nitrous oxide in chem and use it on someone it causes massive blood loss and doesnt even knock them out, is this intentional because I thought it was non lethal and it fucking drained all of someones blood to 0% in 2 min after 30u

Looking at the code it appears intentional, there’s a function to remove 10 blood volume every tick from a “human” (playable race) mob. The reagent also increases drowsiness and has a 20% chance each tick to increase losebreath and confusion.

Here’s the relevant block of code:

Creates [N2O] in liquid form, which explodes when heated to 575K.

What you do is add N20 to a smoke grenade - the smoke (and probably foam, never tried), converts it into breathable gas again, quickly filling the area similar to opening an N20 canister, but without having to worry about releasing a harmful level of pressure or displacing too much oxygen.

I’m not sure why it’s so terrible in liquid form though :thinking:

uhm… thats wrong :flushed: n2o (not n20) and other chems with atmos counterparts (plasma, co2, oxygen) turn into a gas when spilled :slight_smile:

Drawing on my limited chemical knowledge (chemical as in “dynamics of molecules”), a molecule composed of twenty nitrogen atoms would not end well. Nitrogen atoms in an elemental state form extremly strong triple bonds between pairs of nitrogen atoms, sharing the outer shells of electrons between each other. These triple bonds make the n2 molecule extremely stable and inert, and nitrogen atoms will always try to be in this paired bond. If nitrogen atoms are in a bond that’s not a triple bond with each other, and that bond is destabilized enough by energy (heat), then the nitrogen atoms will break the molecule apart and form n2. This is what happens when Nitrous Oxide explodes or lights up in the SM chamber. Due to the nature of electron sharing, nitrogen atoms cannot form multiple triple bonds, and thus the more nitrogen atoms alone in a molecule, the less stable it is, and the more energy that would be released by all the atoms forming triple bonds.

Ignore everything below, I was going off of the blog post, which wasn’t quite accurate. Apparently, C2N14 is a lot less sensitive than the post describes.

An notable example of a molecule composed solely of nitrogen is Azidoazide Azide, 16 nitrogen atoms (really 14 nitrogen and 2 carbon, but the carbon becomes nitrogen) in one molecule. This compound is renowned for its instability, “realizing its dream of turning into an expanding cloud of hot nitrogen gas” at the slightest provocation, or for no reason whatsoever. The laboratory that discovered the compound notes that:

”The sensitivity of C2N14 is beyond our capabilities of measurement. The smallest possible loadings in shock and friction tests led to explosive decomposition. . .”

Projecting out from Azidoazide Azide, a molecule with twenty nitrogen atoms would be even more unstable, to the point of decomposing instantly upon creation, assuming it could be created, as the components would rather be anything else. To put it simply, a n20 molecule would refuse to exist.

It’s worth noting that the lab which first produced and tested with Azidoazide Azide had a rather high minimum testing shock. Nitroglycerin is less stable than Azidoazide Azide despite the lab’s exaggerated claims.

Azidoazide Azide can fail to react when struck with hammer with light or moderate force,

Seems I was wrong then, sorry. I was taking the blog post’s claims as fact at face value, given the credentials of the author.
