Hey guys, I have so far made 2 phases to the Modular Computers Rework with the aim of making your little PDA, Tablet or whatever have some fun use other than to check manifest.
The PRs were huge, and of course some things are bound to be missed!
I want to compile a list of changes I’d like to make happen based on your feedback if you don’t mind!
Heres the start:
1 - Cell Chargers in public Spaces (Bar/Library)
2 - Notebook app soft rework with @DStarsthy
3 - (I forgot but there was something here…)
This would be very easy to do yes! Problem is, most of the consoles you see are NOT modular computers. So I would have to rework all machine consoles to be modular computers instead!
Nah fuck em, if the department or command staff DESPERATELY want a computer with a backup power system, they have to upgrade for a full on modular, this would give Engie, and even more so Sci-staff to leave their department and help other departments with in-person work, it’d also give more purpose to Syndicate modular computer E-mag programs.
Imagine you’re a Cargonian, you go to your Modular computer and notice the Request program is closed. You click it then suddenly , console electrocutes you because a Traitor used “Revealation”.
Additonally, making department door-remotes a device you can integrate into your PDA or tablet would certainly add a more powerful but higher-risk/reward function to your PDA.
A Surgical scanner module as an addition to the CMO’s bag of command staff toys would be neat. Imagine having a portable Surgery console that you can slap on folks who are horizontal and do advanced surgeries with so long as they don’t get up and run away.
HoS’ deluxe SEC cartridge could also gain full Security terminal functionality.
Yes but they cannot have this if the machine console programs aren’t reworked to be modular console programs. I could remake machine consoles to be modular consoles THEN not give them the battery. So science has to do it for them.
Also, I like that idea but revelation needs a rework, ll the emag programs do!
Door remotes is also planned!
Surgical scanners would be possible after reworking machine consoles!
I like the idea of the cartridge! But I don’t know of a way to do this without just giving them sec access to the doors since the access is the same, I believe!
Good ideas all around I didn’t want to work on consoles before this but you made me change my mind! Thank you!
As far as I’m aware with regards to consoles, and to be less vulgar in discussing them. do modular consoles not rely on power-controller modules like every other modular computer? if not, maybe changing that exception would be a good place to start? I haven’t fully assembled a stationary modular console but I have of course put togeather stuff like meteor sat computers and taken apart afew consoles and drawing from the APC is automatic with normal computer boards. All I’m thinking is the Power controler module/component on modulars could have a big role in the backup battery idea.
Ok so, I’m right now working on reworking the consoles like you suggested.
Problem is, its extreme convoluted code. Inside the consoles you see there is a modular computer, but NOT ALL. Only stuff like… say… engineering console!
Things that you assemble by using a circuit board like you mention also seem to have a wired power recharger. But you have to connect cables phisically to the computer, which isn’t actually a computer.
In sort… its quite a mess.
What im doing for now is, make into modular consoles the ones that are supposed to be modular. And leave the other ones for later.
This way you can put parts in, take parts out, do whatever with them, specially… send virus to them!
All Battery powered guns now have a powercell that takes 3 minutes to fully charge, HOWEVER these cells are removable/exchangable with crowbars and can be charged seprately from the gun and manufactured at the SEC lathe.
Additionally, SCI can now research Solid state power cells. Regular power cells will take minutes to charge according to their Wattage, but Solid state cells will take only 1/3rd to 1/5th of the time.
am I really the only guy with any ideas? (Ideas mind you, that did lead to dear pink here to dive into technical debt spaghetti code, but Ideas never the less)
And thank god you did. Its still in review stage but it will be good for overall code. I discovered console code was older than bee is by one year. its crazy!!!
