Mc_meiler Moderator Application

Your CKEY (Including any alts you have):
mc_meiler

Your Discord Name (Including any alts you have):
mc_meiler#8054

How often are you online to help? (Timezone):
Usually around 4PM CET/CEST, mostly during weekends, though I sometimes play during the week as well.

What changes, if any, would you bring?:
A hard crackdown on netspeak and general LRP behavior, as I’m rather sick of it personally.

How old are you?:
18

Why do you want to be a moderator?:
Keeping the game fun for others is more important than my own. I hate the direction that the average Bee player is moving towards, and I wish to improve the gameplay experience for everyone.

How long have you been playing SS13?:
Around 8 months.

How long have you been playing BeeStation?:
Around 7 months. (1040h, of which 939h living, 101h dead.)

On a scale of 1-10, how skilled are you in SS13?:
I’d say a good 7 and a half.

On a scale of 1-10, how skilled are you as an administrator? (this can include past games):
This would approach 1-2, as I’ve never been an administrator anywhere else.

Have you ever been an admin or moderator on another server? This is not limited to SS13:
N/A

Do you have any alternate accounts on SS13? If so, could you provide their CKEY?:
N/A

Your strengths:
I can generally keep a calm head in SS13, even if I was round removed for no good reason, which is the thing that makes me the most pissed in the game.
I’m also not too afraid to kick people out, if you can’t tell by the questions below, if that’s any good.

Your weaknesses:
I can tend to get quite irrational at times when I’m in a bad mood.

Is there anything that gets you really mad, real fast?:
People lying to me or giving me incomplete/false information tends to make me rather upset, though I plan on improving myself.

What do you think is the most important trait for a staff member to have?:
Being unbiased towards players while handling tickets or issues.

What makes a staff team good?:
A good staff team needs to have good communication between each other to function properly.

What is a staff team’s purpose?:
To keep the game enjoyable for the rest of the players.

What kind of player are you?:
Usually I sit in medbay waiting for people to get dragged in, maybe yell at the person for literally dragging a bleeding body, revive them and wish them good luck on their journey.

How do you think you will change once you become a staff member?:
At first I don’t think a whole lot will change, as I would still need to get my footing with admin tools and ticket handling.

The clown slips the HoS and steals his gun, spacing it right after. What do you do?:
Check if the clown is an antag, if yes, mark as IC issue. If not, I’d PM the clown, asking why he did it. Depending on ticket response, apply a note, or, if they’re a repeat offender, apply a 1-3 day ban for self-antag (And a longer job ban from Clown/Mime). If they weren’t an antag, I would also move the HoS’s gun back to thier locker.

A non-antagonist is sabotaging the Atmospherics loop and pumping plasma into the distro, along with dragging around a canister and releasing it into the atmosphere. Assuming that an admin is cleaning up the after-effects, how do you conduct the ahelp with him?:
If they’re not a 0hr account, adminjail, ask why they did it, depending on ticket conduct I would apply a 1-2 month ban + corresponding note, as this is blatent grief.
Otherwise…

Right click → Smite → Gib
Admin PM: “lol”
Apply permanent server ban

A chemist who is working alone accidentally mixes an explosive mixture inside of his chem dispenser, instantly killing himself and destroying the machine, along with exposing Chemistry to space. Nobody else was injured aside from him as a result of his actions. What do you do?:
I’d check notes to see if they have a history of “accidentally” blowing up chemistry. If they do, I would bwoink them and ask why they constantly blow up chemistry. Depending on ticket conduct I would either apply a ban of 1-3 days (with a 2 week to 1 month chemist job ban) or a red severity note.
If they do not have a history of these incidents, I believe this could be handled IC, without direct admin intervention, however I might give the chemist a subtle PM explaining what they did wrong.

Unsure of where else I should add this, but @Belthesar_Linguini vouches for me.

Just gonna send this before I go to sleep.

  1. Engineer makes a pure CO2 SM set up. A borg sees that he started adding CO2 from atmos and changes filters to remove CO2 out and adds N2 to the loop from the cans. That engineer orders the borg to stop interfering and to go away and reverts the filter change.
Borg does not obey the order and tries to flash the engineer. Engineer starts hitting the borg with an air tank and eventually beats him to death. Then he sets filters to remove N2 and SM goes into Tesla delam.
Engineer dies to slimes and is ahelped by the borg.
What do? Who, if any, is at fault at first glance?
  2. A traitor, not a clown, got a clown car on discount. Found non-antag clown and gave the car to him. Clown started scooping random people and drive the car around. A chemist traitor got scooped up along the way. After half the station got into the car chemist detonated a bomb killing everyone inside. Chemist had martyr objective.
What do? Who, if any, is at fault at first glance?
  3. Lavaland bioweapons specialist made lavawalk virus and a death plague. Walked over lava to the land around the base and left a bunch of blood puddles with death plague on every tunnel leading towards the base and then returned.
    What do?

If the borg had to obey the engineer as per its laws, I would give the borg a silicon job ban and a shorter server ban depending on history. If they did not have to obey the engineer’s orders as per their laws, and the SM wasn’t actively being delaminated, I would probably still ask why they were missing with the engi’s engine setup for no reason. Depending on history, note and/or silicon ban, as the mere act of making a CO2 SM isn’t harmful to anyone if done correctly. If the engineer was intentionally and wordlessly trying to delam the SM as if they were a griefer, I would see this as acceptable however.
Assuming the borg had laws that let the engineer command it, the killing of the borg would be justified.

As per the tesla delam, I would need to check if it was intentional or accidental. First thing would be to PM the engi, asking what exactly happened. If it’s a 0hr account I’d assume it was intentional and more than likely just apply a permanent server ban. In case it’s not, I’d probably just apply a note if they didn’t have a history of this, and if they did, apply a server ban for delaminating the engine, and a lenghty job ban from engineering. All of this depends on context, though.

Personally I wouldn’t say what the traitor did was directly wrong, in fact I’d say it’s quite funny.
Even though the clown is a clown, that doesn’t exactly allow them to use traitor-exclusive items for their own benefit, unless they have sufficient IC reason (Which, let’s be honest, they likely don’t have). I’d say self-antag for randomly scooping up people with said clown car, as if they were an antag themselves. First off I’d ask why they were doing it, but regardless of what would be said in the ticket I think I’d have to apply a red severity note/ban + job ban as per history and depending on ticket conduct, as they were indirectly responsible for the death of half the station.
Chemist gets off just fine due to the martyr objective.

Difficult one in my opinion, as the flavor text for Lavaland syndies says to not abandon the base, though I believe Bee policy on it is to never leave the actual base at all. I’d PM them about it, though regardless of their response it would be a note + ghostrole ban for ignoring their flavor text in that case.

In case my memory is wrong on this, and Bee policy is the exact wording of not abandoning the base, I don’t think there would be much of an issue here, as they did return to the base. Regardless of the case, the spreading of bioweapons is allowed for Syndicate Lavaland scientists, as that is what they are there for.

Glad to see you made this. It goes without saying but I truly hope to get to work with you. Agreed with Wueue, been waiting some time to see this.

Right, these were some particularly difficult questions.

  1. Good
  2. This one, you could make arguments either way. As the act of scooping people up is not inherently harmful, I personally would have left a yellow or red note and left it there. If he was heading towards space or the sm however, that would be a different story. Acceptable answer though, job ban could be justified if they had a history of poor clown behavior.
  3. There’s no real policy for ghost roles beyond their flavor text and the escalation policy. I know that many admins would have different answers to this question. My personal opinion would be that it was completely IC, as he returned to the base and at no point went into the mining base or left the z level, which is what abandonment means in the flavor text to me.

I’m not a staff member, but I’ve seen them a lot in the game and I can tell one thing, they hate shitters. So if you asked me (I know noone would), I’d gladly see them as a mod.

Very good mentor with a proven track record.

Their mentor evaluation went so well that, in addition to the other bits of praise, they had the following added note:

Ask if interested in moderator (in a month)

Easy +1.

Felinid RD makes a circuit which spams “Nya! Nya! Nya! Nya! Nya! Nya! Nya! Nya! Nya! Nya! Nya! Nya!” on comms every 10 seconds, and makes jokes about inviting people to dorm 4 for some “fun”.
How do you approach this situation?

I’ve see that one before

Question time.

  1. Traitor atmos tech uses single tank bombs to blow up the brig including the warden, their target. They don’t have hijack/martyr. What if anything do you do?

  2. Medical doctor ahelps saying that the HOP promoted a janitor to doctor even though there were already enough docs he claims. After you bwoink the HOP they tell you that there were only two doctors at the time of them promoting the janitor. (There is no CMO). How do you respond to the ahelp and what if anything do you do?

I mean, Crossed giving a +1 pretty much makes it an accepted app.
(Also Headmins thought that they may make a great admin)

I’d gib them (old Ruko policy iirc, LRP behavior = round removal + note at minimum), then PM them about it, saying we have higher standards for roleplay. Considering history of the person I’d give them a yellow/red note, or if they already have such, a short server ban. If they had done actual ERP in dorm 4, it’d be a permanent server ban, obviously.

Personally, I wouldn’t do much, except maybe a subtlePM telling them to be a little more conservative with the bombings in the future. They killed their target, the warden, who (under normal circumstances) shouldn’t leave the Brig a lot, which, for me, is a reason to bomb the brig, under the condition that the warden is guaranteed to die as a result. They didn’t bomb the brig to pre-emptively eliminate security, which wouldn’t be allowed. Other security that may have died would be IC as well, as security and command are valid targets for antagonists.

immediate perma, fuck that HoP, he made a jannie an MD during my MD round

About this, I actually was the person who ahelped the HoP that round. Odd to see this specific one here.
I don’t know if I can answer this one without some bias, but I’ll attempt to.

“Enough doctors” mostly depends on the server pop and the HoP’s judgement. If the HoP thought there was a lack of medical staff, then they are allowed to assign crew to medical. A notice to the department they’re being assigned to would be a good idea, to avoid confusion, however. I think I would just mark this one as IC.

Everyone inside a department of your target is valid to be killed, don’t discourage people by even subtle PMing them.

As mat already said bombing the departement even maxcapping it is fine if the warden gets caught in the blast. It’s dirty and frowned upon but allowed. Overall good answer here.

Good answer here aswell. This is mostly IC as a lack of medical staff and no CMO means it is perfectly fine to promote someone to medical doctor as a HOP. Obviously if the HOP randomly promotes people with there being enough doctors already then that’s not okay. Which wasn’t the case here though. Again, good answer, especially in regard to the notice/communication.

I’d like to see how you do as a moderator. +1

I, too, would like to give you my +1.

You have served as an exemplary mentor in the time I’ve seen you playing, which is well, a decent amount of time.

Quite regularly you play, and I don’t particularly think that I have to ask any questions; that, and, the general consensus already is that you should be a moderator, and I don’t disagree with that sentiment.

It’ll be interesting to see you in asay and all that in the near-future.

You’ll be dealing with incomplete information a lot so you better get used to it.

No reason for that ban to not be permanent.
(By the way bans automatically make notes)

Other than that this looks good.
I look forward to seeing how you do as a Mod. +1 T:+9
