Rules Broken: Do your Job, Follow SoP, Do not Grief, Head of Staff conduct
Incident Description: So the SM explodes, and because it’s on Echo, it takes a good chunk of the station with it. I call the shuttle, because Johnny Witherspoon, the HoP and acting captain refuses to. Something about SoP, but frankly I think he was just being a shitter. He RECALLS the shuttle, and orders the build your own shuttle kit, pretty much adding ten minutes to the shuttle timer, and leaves us with an unfinished shuttle that has no medbay to deal with the amount of people dead from the SM explosion. Also, regarding the SM, people were begging him for access to fix the SM before it de-laminated, but he kept on saying no, for some reason.
Additional Information: This ended up being a discussion on the discord, where Johnny pretty dug his hole even deeper. Whether he’s just completely ignorant of how Command and the shuttle works or if he’s intentionally being a shitter is not known to me.
In order of your claims
The shuttle timer was about 18:30 and on green alert, and I was already in the process of making a captains ID after getting screamed at by everyone to do so (which I thought was incredibly uncool of them OOC). So it’s at 18:30, I recall, set it to blue, speeding up the recall timer, and because I was hearing screaming about multiple departments blowing up and catching fire, I bought a byos so there was an immediately safe place to flee to, which led to you lethalling me on sight with a service pistol aswell as several crew breaking in to kill me. The ‘people’ that were begging me for access to fix the SM was a security officer demanding all access to catch a criminal, no engineering access was ever requested, though I did order an engineering cyborg that I met earlier in the round to fix whatever was wrong with the SM when I learned that it was having trouble. I was entirely aware that it would make the shuttle depart a little later, but I knew that I was both providing a safe place to be aswell as speeding up the arrival time as opposed to me not making a captains ID and doing nothing, leaving it on green.
This was my second HOP round, and the absolute amount of IC and OOC shit I got for it was and is insane to me. I acted in good faith the entire round, despite having latejoined and getting swept up in several things before I could have captaincy transferred from the previous acting captain to me, which never actually ended up happening for the record, because you were the RD.
Okay, so the HOP joins, meets an unfortunate set of circumstances, and an argument between them and the RD starts as the HOP refuses to claim captainship and raise the alert.
The station is melting as the two argue about things and the HOP believes they cant do anything about it without the spare whilst the RD and an officer try to explain they can modify IDs and should be the acting captain.
The argument subsides and the HOP finally takes up la responsabilité to change his ID and move the alert to blue.
After doing this, the shuttle timer would have been probably 7-9 minutes, but the HOP recalls the shuttle to buy the BYOS kit, resetting it back to 10 and forfeiting a functional shuttle medbay.
This is a poor choice, especially for echo where the crew could have waited by the pad. But poor choices are IC.
Heads of staff are held to a higher standard, but this goes both ways. You barged into the bridge with a lynchmob and shot the guy to death without saying much, which I would have loved because your vocabulary was pretty funny.
Whether Withrael was OOC clueless about the chain of command/mechanics of ID access or just being an IC dickhead because of the confrontation I cannot tell, but this seems like it was handled perfectly when you and the lynchmob beat him to a pulp.
And for the record: the HOP is by default the acting captain if no real captain is present, if you don’t want this responsibility, you shouldn’t take the role when there isn’t a captain.
