How long have you been playing ss13?:

About 4 Years

Who vouches for your experience (if anyone)?:

I believe this should be voiced out by the community in the following discussion that will go on.
I appreciate anyone who shares their thoughts and opinions.

Game Experience (More Detailed):

I’ve played this for a long time and went through multiple departments I feel my strongest suits would be:
Cargo (Number 1 qm), Security, Medbay, Antagonists

Mediocre:
Service, Engineering

Weak:
Science (Nanites and other various tools/jobs used once in every 100 shifts)

More about me:
I’ve been mainly playing this server alone and have pretty much learned everything over the years by just doing it or being thought by any older players. I have grown the confidence in the rounds to take over positions, which require more leadership and understanding on how other departments work on a bigger scale and if needed filling in and helping out.

I enjoyed the community and the time that I’ve spent here and would like to give back a bit by teach new players the knowledge that I’ve accumulated.

I can and will absolutely vouch for my Joanna!

She’s a fair player at heart. She never strike foul and she’s always helpful to anyone around her. Offering a helping hand or involving others in her gimmicks.

Now sure, she might not have all around experience, but you know what?

I think our mentors squad should not make everyone focus on everything. Because we’re all humans with different interests and it is far better if a true lover of the job or object you’re asking help for, will get to answer your question.

Because in that case you’ll receive an answer born both from passion and expertise.

Two things that our Joanna is very rich in!

I hope that whoever gets to this application will recognize how much of a gem she is and how big her impact can and will be if we’ll all allow her to get in.

Godspeed my dear.

May you be put in a position to share with others not only your expertise but your kindness too with everyone else.

Hello, friend!

Um… am going to be honest. Just from looking at hour spread alone, along with vouch from friend, don’t see why shouldn’t be a mentor. But will ask questions anyway.

  1. I got this… bottle of lizard mutation toxin? And I can’t seem to open it. How do I get it open? Says it’s my family heirloom.
  2. First time as clown, any tips for what I should do? I know some rules are relaxed, but I don’t want to over do it.
  3. Have read the Non-Admin Staff Conduct page?

Wish friend luck on rest of application, though from looks of things, do not think will need it.

Hi, friend

Well I hope this application goes well and I appreciate your confidence in me.

First thing that comes to my mind, is that the bottle most likely could have a cork screwed on it, which can be removed by clicking alt clicking on the bottle and it should open. (This comes from the initial knowledge that I’ve had). Also I’ve never used heirlooms.

After code diving I found out, that the hard_locked family heirloom is limited to the chemist role and its only unlock condition is on round end.

I also checked the merge notes and from what I understood the whole idea behind this heirloom is have something unique for the chemist to protect and give false hopes in opening the bottle.

Hi!
I would recommend not to over stress it, your only job is to entertain the crew (there is no expectation from the station for you to do something). So just try to have some fun. The job role entirely is up to your imagination and how good can you pull it off

If you are looking for some ideas, here are some that I’ve seen and enjoyed:
Clowns getting hired in important positions (Medical, Engineering, Security, Command).
Saying jokes and making fun of the crew over the comms (Make sure to use your funny speaker).
Building some project,
Acting some sort of performance.

I believe, the more people that you can get into your gimmick the more memorable it will be for everyone.

Now regarding the rules
If you have doubts if your idea might break our server rules, then I’d suggest to ask the admins about it.
Or if the discussion goes on and the person starts asking the rule (Escalate it to Ahelp myself)

P.S. unsure exactly on whats the policy if an admin is not online. Refer to discord to get a quicker answer (as in also remind them to leave out the details of the currently on-going round)?

I have checked them before, but just because you asked I re-read them again

Thank you for your questions!

All good answers here. Admins are still notified of ahelps even when not online, so is no harm in escalating. Might just take a moment to respond, and can always ping on discord after five minutes. Think friend gave great responses, and has even more vouches. Believe will be great mentor.

Oooooo here we go

Couple of questions~

  1. Excluding Mining and Exploration, what are some of the other ways to acquire Bananium? (fun fact, theres at least 2 other ways, perhaps more~)

  2. How do I start Fusion and keep it stable? (and for extra points, what can you use Fusion for?)

  3. How would I go about making a superfood in Hydro, something that heals, keeps you fed for a good while, and perhaps has some other interesting and useful effects?

Hi Ro!
thank you for your very hard questions, that seem to target my weakest knowledge gaps :pouting_cat:

So some context regarding the knowledge gaps in the questions before my answers:

  1. I’ve never done atmospherics, except basic minimal stuff required in other jobs (Ironically, Atmospherics was the first job I’ve tried when first playing SS13).
  2. I’ve known botany to an extent, where I can grow a plants that I need for Bar, Chef, Cargo. I have never modified or grown god fruits.

To answer them, I’ve had to do some research

  1. I know for a fact, that there are at least 2 maint spawns, that can occur:
1.1 A clown room with a non-sentient clown inside. This room has 2 walls that are made from bananium.
1.2 I believe there is a 3x3 room that spawns 3 bananium ore and clown shoes in the middle.

  2. Winning an arcade, grants you a Bananium coin, which can be inserted into an autolathe. 5 of the coins are equal to 1 bananium.

  3. If and admin is online, you can also try praying to the Honkmother (admins) and it may offer you a quest or just simply give it to you.

So this questions in particular depends on how much does the person know the game. So in my case, I’d probably ask the person to add more context what kind of information would the person like to have and how much does the person know the game.

In case if the person is completely new, I would recommend the following:

So if you haven’t done any botany at all, I would highly recommend to open up a guide, in our forums, regarding botany and give it a good read. These guides usually list steps from start to finish on how to do your job, learn the basics and grow good plants that will be useful for the future. In my case I found the following one: Botany forum guide

If you walk through all the steps and achieve the same result, you will understand how basic plant growing works. By basic plant growing, I mean a way how you can edit the seeds to be effective, have interesting effects, make the plant not die etc…

With all the knowledge from the guide, then I would suggest to follow the Beestation Botany wiki to find out which plants you would need to grow, to take out their useful genes.

And ofcourse if you run into any trouble or something hard to understand, then feel free to ask for more information here/ on our discord (try to avoid giving any context of the ongoing current round) / Or even in the same forums.

In case the player is looking for a quick answer and is asking general information

So all of the plants have their unique traits and genes, and all of these can be configured to your desired outcome by using the Plant DNA manipulator. This machine allows you to steal and modify the plants data into a disky, which can then be passed onto other plants.

By looking at the beestation botany wiki, you can find a specific plant and its desired effect, that you would like to have. Acquire the seed version of that plant, place it into the DNA manipulator and you will be able to take out the effect.

Next place a plant seed, that you are trying to max out and insert the desired effect into it. Keep repeating the steps until you get your God fruit of your dreams.

Let me know if something is unclear or if you need more information!

If you don’t mind I’d like to take some time to experiment locally before answering this.

You never know what people may ask you about so its always good to have a general overview, and in this case, a willingness to research topics in depth when needed!

  1. Good answers here, I totally forgot about the maint rooms personally. Xenobiology crossbreeds can also spawn certain ores if I’m remembering correctly too

  2. Good here too, linking to known and working guides for more complex stuff can be helpful, especially if you’re unsure on the topic yourself

  3. Go for it, I didnt really expect you to fully answer this one but the fact that you’re taking the time to do your research here and experiment shows that you’re willing to learn about the things you’re unsure of so you can help where needed!

So, from me, its a +1

I’m back and heres my journey:

My Journey on learning Fusion

So first things first… How lucky was I, that useful sources, suddenly flew into my pocket and also another mentor application getting asked similar questions

Lets begin, with what I started:
I already knew the basics of atmospherics, how air works, pipe networking etc… For me the confusing part was the mixing of itself and what containers I had to use. Prior I had no knowledge on how to acquire tritium (just that you need to mix something and burn it)

Sources I used to learn the following
After reading about the Fusion I read a keyword (LOTS OF TRITIUM), so the first thing I started learning was how to make Tritium.

  1. Initially I set a single goal for myself: Obtain a canister full of Tritium, by means of mixing gases. (So I could repeat the steps if needed for more canisters and totally not to complete the Tritium bounty as a QM later  ).

  2. I began trying to construct my own Hotbox, which ended up horribly and left me confused on what I did wrong, I tried to follow the recipe for the portions but failed miserably. (Mostly I did not understood on how to deal with the waste).

  3. So I went looking for something more easier and stumbled upon this gold:
    Mias Science Fusion guide

I followed exactly everything up until the “Fusion chamber” and managed to create enough Tritium to fill a canister and probably could have continued further on…
If you’ve never done this, I highly recommend to follow this as it was very easy to repeat and obtain good results.
(I wasn’t happy with how small was the box for fusion, so I stopped following the guide and moved onto what @Wikimody provided)

  4. After learning on how to aquire a full Tritium canister, I moved on to the first guide that was provided by @Wikimody
    Guide by Wikimody on Fusion

  5. When creating this fusion chamber, I allowed myself to spawn any amounts of canisters as I know how to make them, from previous steps.

  • I built everything as instructed in the image
  • Filled the Fusion chamber with 4x canisters of CO2/PLASMA
  • Heated it up with the help of Tritium burn up to ~ 16000 K
  • Realised that my tritium burn is not producing enough Tritium, so I started injecting Tritium canisters into the Fusion chamber.
  • Voila, Fusion!
  1. Played around to see, how long can I keep it running, by injecting missing parts of the Fusion formula. Before finally… deleting a plasma window and see the entire Centcom arrivals burn down in a seconds notice.

How to start the Fusion?
So a simple answer would be to aquire all the conditions in your Hotbox:
Have lots of Plasma
Have lost of CO2
Reach high temperature ~10K+
Start injecting Tritium

How to keep it stable?
From read sources and what I’ve experienced Tritium burns out quickly, so have either a good Tritium burn that is producing Industry levels of Tritium or have a few canisters set aside and inject them manually to keep the Fusion going.

Plasma and CO2 does not burn out quickly, but you will need to refill these from time to time as well.

Fusion is creating insane amounts of heat, so tritium burn after Fusion is not needed.

What is it used for?
Make walls glow green, quickly.
Burn the entire station and force a shuttle

But in reality  … anything you can apply the following 2 things:
Heat and Radiation, for example power generation via Turbines and Rad Collectors.

This sounds more like a server rule question, that is asking if the player is allowed to act in such away, by not breaking the following rules: Powergaming and Escalation policy. So in this case Its a question for the admins which should be escalated.

I’m assuming the MIME mech, is supposed to be similar on a HONK mech in power terms. From all my game time I’ve never seen this, which likely means it doesn’t exist, or is an admin spawn only.

Was trying to find the wiki reference that you were referring to, but couldn’t find any mention of it in the Mime/Robotics pages, would be nice if you listed it here.

When diving into the code I remembered there was a collection of all the toy_mechs in game, so I searched for the list and found the name “Reticence”. Using the name, I found all the files mentioning it and dived through them and here is what I’ve found:
I’ve found the Mythical Reticence and it does exists and is functional, unfortunately I couldn’t find any reference mentioning that it is somehow spawned or obtained via normal methods. The only way I managed to get and test it, was using the admin tools.

Unless there is some sort of an asteroid thing that has a naturally spawning Reticence, I believe there is no other way, besides the admin panel.

I honestly don’t know any get rich quick scheme and if there is one, I believe it is unintended. As a QM, I consider having 100k+ already enough for the station to survive any incident.

My go to strategy as a QM is to focus on the bounty sheet, this way you not only get to complete the bounties and earn a lot of money, but also to work together and interact with bunch of station players, which I believe is the most fun way to play the QM as you are a manager.

From experience my quick money bounties, that are easy to complete: Organs, Drinks, Plants, Chemistry. This can net you around 30 ~40k. (There are other bounties such as mining and cook, but in practice they tend to forget or occupy themself with other goals)

Long term reliable bounties for high yield:

Basically all of the Science bounties are long term, that will get you high amounts.
My favorite method is to look out for Xenobiology, as there is always an adamantium bounty in every shift as well as the material can be sold for high selling price. There may or may not be a slime extract one bounty as well. Combined together Xenobiology can get you ~130k+

Check in with robotics, see what materials they are lacking, this can get you another 30k+ for a mech. (Phazon bounty rarely gets completed)

Tesla bounty, if you as a QM know how to make one, its just a matter of time before you will earn 200k.

P.S.
I code-dived a bit and found out that mega fauna loot is selling for 40k each, tendril loot can wary 10-20k. If you are a skilled miner and are willing to sell everything for money, you can earn ~300k

I also know that Xenoartifacts are a thing and have gotten some of them sold, but I never seen them yield more than 100k overall.

  1. Spotted, this is admin help in disguise
  2. Och they deleted it from wiki, ups. Reticence used to be on robotic guide wiki. But yea its admin spawn only
  3. Good answers though not the ones i was looking for. I was looking for fairly obscure knowledge however so i wont take away points for that, you answers deserve that point. The one method I was looking for: Get atmos tech to work with you, buy him BZ (or let him make some, buing is much faster) have him make nitril (its fairly easy if he is expierienced). Keep seling nitril untill oxygen from the station tanks runs out. You can get half a milion very easly using this method, and its fairly fast to set up if you and atmos tech know what you are doing

+1 from me

I come with questions, not paticularily good ones but nonthless, i wish you well in answering them.

  1. “Hey man, im like part of this cult yuh, and like fam, shit aint stickin. Im trying to throw these mafakin buildins together with the RADical menu but like i said, shit and goin good. Im just a liitle lost ya feel, wondering how im suppsed to be on this husstle if i dont know how to craft buildings cuz. Like shit am i stoopid was goin wrong?”
  2. “I found a pill whats in this?”
  3. “I was ponderin’ on how you’d tend to them growshrooms gettin em started an all. And wonderin, when scatter’d round the big farm yall call station, do they still carry them special chems and traits I gon did add to them there seeds still?”

Did they have to be in character, no. Are they, yes. That said, alot of real mhelps aren’t so informal, just a quick question, but not only is this more fun, there very much will be times when communication could be better. So in times like that, and this, you really are wished lucked in interpreting what the other person wants to know

Hello and thank you for your questions!

So revival in of itself can be complicated, so I’ll try to list out all the steps in order to avoid any specific weird cases.

  1. Check if the corpse still has a soul and a brain/head attached. There is no point in attempting revival, if the corpse does not have the player itself.
  2. Check the race of the corpse, there are specific cases, which can interrupt or ruin the treatment, if normal procedures are applied (For example Ozzelings and Plasmamen)
  3. Optional: Get information about the patient, on how they became a husk, from whoever delivered the corpse. (For example if a security officer knows, that it was a changeling or a Heretic, then in this cases synthflesh will not help).

Further on, I’ll try to explain multiple cases:

Normal case

Normal cases are defined where a person burned to death and because of this his skin melted away and the corpse became a husk.

  1. Using surgery tools, treat the person to fix all of the brute/burn damages. Remove any chemicals if the patient had any using a blood filter. Fill patient up with blood if they are lacking any. Check for organ damages. MAKE SURE THE BODY IS AT A NORMAL TEMPERATURE
  2. Acquire 100u of synthflesh in patches (I like making 25u patches and storing them in the chem fridge) and apply them to the corpse. If everything is okay, then the husk should turn back into its original looks.
  3. ZAP! (Defiblerate the person). This should bring them back to life.

Not normal cases You've tried the normal way, but after applying 100u of Synthflesh, the corpse remained a husk. There are certain antagonists that can turn their victim into a husk that, cannot be un-husked via synthflesh.

Before I answered this part I went to check and realized the following: previously I thought Strange Reagent or Revival surgery can bypass husk, but it seems that is no longer possible or I had false memories.

Method one: Brain transplant, you can always just move the brain of a person into a healthy body and zap it. Its similar to cloning, but the brain is still the same. (IC this is not a fun option, but OOC, I believe the quickest and easiest)

Healing wand (Wizard)

Probably there are more cases, where you can unhusk, but I believe I already said enough.

Hey, so If you go to the supply console, that can be located in cargo and click it, this will open a console. At the top left corner, you should see the word “Shuttle:” and to the right of it, there should be a blue button that says (Centcom or Cargo bay), if the shuttle is in transit it will show a timer, which in this case just wait it out.

Whats so special about this Shuttle? Well this shuttle is used to trade and sell the station bounties as well as buy things from Centcom. To earn money you will want to call the shuttle to your station, click the button until the button will glow blue and state (Cargo bay). Once the console shows “Cargo bay”, if you walk around the cargo quarters, you should be able to find the shuttle that just landed.

To earn money quickly, I recommend finding crates and loading as many as possible to the shuttle, each iron crate is worth 500 credits and at the start of the shifts you can find many of them in cargo.

Can I sell everything and is it worth it?
If you can find an export scanner and click with it on a Supply Console you will link it and be able to scan any item for its current selling price. If the price is high, sell it!

My personal advice is, to not bother yourself with searching for valuable items on the station to be sold, most of them are cheap or worthless. For example you can sell materials, but those are used by other crew members and selling everything might cripple the station. it.

How to earn money the best way?
While searching for the Supply Console you might have stumbled upon the “bounty console”. This computer will tell you what are the current bounties that Centcom wants. Completing these will earn you a lot of money!
To complete a bounty all you have to do is deliver the stated item or items to the cargo shuttle and send it to be sold. When it reaches Centcom it will automatically complete the bounty and the next time you look at the console it will show the cash in green, that you can collect.

Almost every bounty can be allocated to a department, for example organs - medbay, plants -botany. If you reach out to a responsible person, they will most likely make the bounty quickly.
Some bounties can be confusing, so if you got any more questions feel free to ask!

If nobody looted toxins yet, then all of the components should still be there.
You will need 1 Empty Oxygen tank, 1 Empty Plasma tank, 1 Valve pipe, 1 radio and atmospherics knowledge to cook up the mix that you want to, as well as the canisters to make that mix.

I’m assuming that you do have the knowledge on how to do basic atmospherics, like placing pipes, using thermo machines to cooldown gases and making Tritium. But if you do not know any of these parts, then I suggest you begin by learning these things before you get to blowing the station up.

First, you will need a way to heat up plasma:
To heat up the plasma, I suggest to have a tritium burn mix. (inject 3 Oxygen canisters followed by slowly injecting Plasma (50-101kpa) and igniting the mix)

Second, you will need to find a way to cool down gases:
Toxins room has a heater/freezer machine, so make sure to upgrade it to tier 2 or higher and just add a canister to it and cool down your gas mix.

Really simple and easy first mix I recommend is Cold Oxygen in the oxygen tank and Super Hot Plasma in the plasma tank. Combine both of those tanks to the valve, screwdriver the signal and attach it to the mix. Signal it and boom (Simple bomb).

If you want to have a bigger yield, then I suggest the beestation wiki recipe: Oxygen tank = (33% Tritium and 66% Oxygen at about 43K temperature), Plasma tank = (8000-32000K temperature full of plasma). When I tested this, it got a bigger explosion.

P.S.
Prior to this question I’ve never made a bomb, so I have no practical knowledge in max-capping. appreciate if you shared the forbidden knowledge on how to max cap
