hm i’ve considered applying before. unfortunately i have a lot of medical issues that make my ability to be present doing things a little iffy sometimes so i always avoided it. if there was a way to only do the in game admin / moderator work i might be more interested because honestly i think having the Ability to just hang back as observer and watch the shit going on while solving problems might be nice. I’ve also just have had SO many annoying issues with old ss13 server admins because of being a not straight not cis person that putting myself into that kind of environment makes me a little too anxious.
My other main concern about applying is really the beemin beemod mindset. I see a lot of toxic interactions in ghost chat or ooc that happen round end that never seem to be addressed, and for the most part i think that has more to do with there not being a lot of mods / admins online and the ones who are online are almost always getting tickets about someone doing some weird lrp gimmick or just straight up griefing for no reason. But i also think there’s a bit of split in the bee team between what they want the server to be, what kind of players they want to attract, and the kind of rounds they want to see / run. And honestly sometimes the amount of weird lrp players we see makes me wish there was a whitelist on beestation. not even like- a super diverse one, but one that was literally a googlesheet quiz of “did you read the rules and what is the right course of in this very simple scenario.” the kind of thing that someone could go through in like- five minutes and still get into the server fairly quickly.
Last main concern is that ss13 admin tools make me want to kill people GOD they are so weirdly obtuse, need like a 13 hour long course on how to use them correctly before they make ANY sense.
Otherwise i’m a mainly head / ai player with like 320 hours on bee, no notes or bans on this server or any other, and fucking way more hours on older, weirder, and no longer available ss13 servers. I spend a lot of my round already doing weird ic middle management between players so really, If i could just be nice friendly ghost mod that observes and lets antags change their objectives to something that might be fun for the round at shift start, could moderate ghost or looc to be more KIND and THOUGHTFUL of other players, and just do/assist with ahelps as they happened in round i’d probably apply. insert shurg emote here.
Yeah! that’s the only task that moderators need to carry out
Moderators do get a period of tutoring before you can use the tools on their own. Tools can be very obtuse, but as a mod you just need to use a few buttons.
If you don’t feel comfortable because of your health, that’s completely understandable, health comes before anything else and shouldn’t be sacrificed for a videogame!
If you do get better, I would love to see you on the staff team!
I feel like the people that are meant to enforce the rules should fucus on that instead of multitasking that and trying to make the round more interesting. Retired admins should definetly be able to apply for a gamemaster role since by that time they most likely are trusted and have earned their position. A gamemaster could focus on giving the round some type of narrative and being more invested in the stories developing around. I bet that the most common reason for retiring is eithier the stress or having to put too much time into admining so giving adminbus abilities without any of the admin responsibilities would be a offer at least some retirees would take.
I might put in an app for mod then! My health is kinda the reason I’m home so much currently so it might be nice to actually have like - something to do that I’m capable of doing if that makes sense.
While we do try to do both, enforcing rules will always take precedence. We just don’t have the manpower to do both most of the time. (if more people applied this would be more manageable)
Not many retired admins choose to stay, I don’t think this would be a meaningful change (not enough to have an impact on most rounds).
I personally would be against this role, but an headmin would be able to articulate the reason in a better way.
Giving people admin permissions without any of the actual responsibilities of being an admin and then encouraging them to be button pushy is a recipe for disaster. Perms and responsibility are a package deal.
