Echo Station - Feedback!

Fellas I know we all love echo but if this turns into fighting about peoples roleplay then I will turn you all into cubes and it will not be pretty. Keep it about echo (or how awesome Briggs is).

What a bizarre accusation.

If you have something to communicate to the author, say it to them.

This ‘speculation’ about their motives does not come off well.

Otherwise this thread should be for the station or constructive feedback, not conspiracy

Didn’t they say something along those likes long ago during the development of Echo Station that it wouldn’t fit low-pop?

And… What does that have to do with your supposed “I am vindictive about a role, so you can’t play it”.

Why did you add it

Echostation is the best station.

It’s cozy and being on a planet keeps it from feeling cramped and adds a lot to a round that would otherwise be fairly boring for a lack of players. Easy access to extra space enables building and a general sense of exploration that would otherwise not be easily accessible without alienating oneself even more from the round. Anyone can come outside and join in on little things easily.

I like Echo, but I don’t think treating it as a low-pop map only is any fair. I wish we could see 20 - 30 people or so play it.

Its been a while since this map has come out and I do believe there are some pretty big pain points for this map.
Please keep in mind that the avg number of players on this station ranges between 3~7.

  • I think we should push the whole sm setup at least 2~3 tiles down. since there is no wall to stop excess radiation getting to people. Having to stick to the walls every time I want to walk past from atmos is and makes no sense.
    If there is no change going to be made please at least draw an warning line that is clear and visible even in low light situations.

  • Too much clutter in the engine room especially right next to the engine.

  • The air mix ratio is 29%(incorrect percentage) o2 and not 21%(Correct percentage)

  • Xenobio - Too small to the point where you can’t do the job itself.
    Usually xenobio consists of 6 rooms for slime breeding as well as a containment chamber(also used to keep and store slimes.
    The rooms doesn’t have to be all connected you can disjoint the rooms/containment chamber like Meta, where there is an maintenance path in between.

Currently there is too many instances where the sm blows up and ends the round as well as players being miserable with no power for an hour or more before either the round ends or after the sm blows up.

  • Mostly due to inexperienced engineers unfamiliar with the weird setup for the sm.
  • Lack of solars to even sustain minimum amount of the station like every other station.
  • No one wanting to bother do engineering
  • Maybe consider an area to make an anti-matter engine. hell maybe even pop tha t setup outside. (If you do, please make sure it can powered properly outside)

Hot gas from turbine/sm burning the station and immediately ending the round or the Pyro-anomaly gamble of whether or not it ends the round in less than 15 min.
There are many sentiments of people wishing pyro anomalies to not be a thing on this station.

  • It may also be due to a lack luster of properly managed air alarms, scrubbers, vent placement and firedoors.
  • With almost little to no space in atmos, there is no realistic way to modify and setup atmos to be efficient enough to deal with hot waste gas. Being compact is cool, however in this case it severely affects atmospherics negatively.

I love this station but its got too many floors.

I understand that this is a extreme amount of work BUT,
what if we had the bottom floor just completely removed and have all that moved to the ground floor out in the open so people can experience sunlight and the night.

Hi! I play almost entirely low pop and I’d wager I have more hours engineering on Echo than anyone. :3

Some updates on the current state of Echo!

TEGs
I can now make a lava TEG by the 15 minute mark since the TEG parts were added round start.
This change alone has made it so that I can stabilize power on Echo without ever touching the SM. All you need for research is industrial engineering which is basically free and almost always researched immediately. Before Floria added these boards the fastest I could build a TEG was around 35 minutes, and I had to run the SM to sustain the station until then.

Pyroclastic anomalies

Pyro anomalies still body the station constantly.
I would confidently argue that pyro anomalies are the #1 reason rounds end on Echo.
In my opinion they should be disabled entirely when on Echo if possible.

Fucking Science

Holy moly! Science isn’t that bad you guys!
Yes we could use a bit more space in xeno, but by changing my strategy I can still get rainbows quite quickly and fill my fridge. I do like that we get a random slime to kick start us but I think the RNG could be mitigated a little. Sometimes I start with a rainbow, or red sand I’m done xeno in minutes. Other times I start with oil or sepia and it doesn’t help at all. Perhaps there could be a set of 3-4 different slimes it could spawn as, not sure how this is implemented and if it’s possible.

Toxins storage is slightly too tight. I speed run toxins when I do it because the content is ass. I hate feeling jumbled up and disorganized in the crowded canister storage.

Exploration

Exploration is my second most played role and I don’t miss it on Echo.
Mining is so friggin good on Echo because of being able to mine huge amounts of ore right beside cargo. You can get full PKA mods and a complete kit before you ever go anywhere dangerous.
I’ve seen miners get the station hundreds of ore by 20 minutes then take the mining shuttle to go do some exploring.
Only issue is they have no comms relay on the mining shuttle to stay in touch with the station.
My suggestion would be to make the mining shuttle a long dong and slap a relay into it.

Botany

Oh my lanta I want the maintenance botany back so badly. It was the best part of Echo botany and now it’s gone. As botanist on Echo my go to was moving my whole operation to the maintenance hydroponics room, and then convert botany into a public hangout. I will never play botany on Echo now that maints botany is gone.

  1. push SM down
    this should be fairly doable, but it is a big change and make effect a few things. I’ll give it a go when i next make a echo PR.

  2. too much clutter
    fair enough, though it has the same items as most other maps but i understand that it’s more densely located in one area.

  3. air mix
    this was fixed

  4. Xenobio too small
    i understand why you find it annoying but I am very unlikely to change this as it would require some hard remapping of science and isn’t necessary to to do xeno. remember there is not xenobio role, xeno bio is a small part of your job as scientist.

  5. sm blows ending round
    This is unfortunately a lowpop and planetary issue. but the SM blowing up would cause the shuttle to be called on most maps.
    a)Lack of solars
    There are solars on the surface that anyone can turn on even with no power
    b) anti-matter engine
    The anti-matter engine was removed from the game

  6. Pyro-anomaly
    It is something I would like to address. namely to simply not have it spawn on echo. I did take a look at the anomaly code when making my last PR but it was a little complex to code that amend in the free time I had.

  7. no space to do-
    echo has a large amount of maints and breakable rock. it’s highly encouraged to expand your department especially for engi who have more tools then most to do that. This also comes back to your xeno feedback. there is a dedicated area in maints behind science for xeno to expand to.

  8. too many floors/moved to the ground floor out in the open
    I did consider it when stating echo and it would be possible, but I don’t really see the benefit of removing 50% of the surface jungle area.
