One of the communities number one complaint is about RP right?
So it would make sense that a reasonable approach to enticing RP out of our playerbase would be to start actually formulating some basic structure for players to work off of.
I mean, creating worthwhile RP with people you have never met before can be hard.
We cant even answer basic questions like:
What is the background behind this large corporation we all serve?
What really is this mysterious material “plasma” and why is it so integral to everything we do?
What the fuck is an oozeling?
Why does this ling want to eat my insides and wear me like a costume?
How come I can do Advanced Nuclear Physics and manage a Black Hole energy engine as a fucking mime whos probably a highschool dropout?
Are we really bound to Nanotransen by our souls? Are any of the roles just contractors, or is everyone an employee?
What are the ethical ramifications behind be able to make SENTIENT life from a brick of scrap metal?
Overall, we have such a shit environment that doesnt provoke any of these questions to be answered, much less br played out in any type of RP-like way.
IMO, lore and RP are intrinsically linked, and that’s where we should start.
I personally am against the idea of running regex 4 times for every single chat message.
We’re not getting flavor text any time soon.
What are those “lrp features” you’re speaking of?
I’ll surprise you here, most RP servers don’t tie a tags that much. They just let them do what they please.
Our rules on what antags can do are some of the most strict and it results in people obsessing over “possible murderbone”.
i’ve… what ? how ? did crossed never do any RP ? like, not even just ss13, i’m talking any sort of roleplaying activity ?
Every single TTRPG has pages and pages and pages and pages and pages of “flavor text”, every single roleplay group has flavor has to their character, a background or something to allow people to play off of it, a setting that explains why they’re here
I realize after typing this that crossed may mean the flavor text ala skyrat or other servers. That’s a fair opinion. But if he means lore, lol, that’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard
antags murderboning are 100% more rp friendly than stealth antags who dont do anything until shuttle gets called because they are afraid if they killed someone some players might feel bad and cry, piss and shit because they cant cope with dying in 2d spaceman game from 1996
Can’t speak for others, but I only focus on objectives because I don’t want to get banned. Rules permit very little otherwise. It has nothing to do with being afraid of hurting feelings because someone died in a game.
Every antag kit is designed for straight murder, some stealthier than other. Few items and abilities can be used for less harmful shenanigans, but even those are a giant red flag that you’re valid.
It has nothing to do with being afraid of hurting feelings because someone died in a game.
that part was only a figure of speech, the real reason is that killed people keep creating ahelps and whining and crying in dchat, and then it’s only a matter of how admin sees “antag freedom”
As a person who personally saw crossed create a rp interaction i would disagree. Management does lean towards RP but i believe it can only sustain a round for so long. Simply put centcomm has pretty stricy rules on creating conflict.
Im sure everyone agrees that high chaos rounds are something that most players enjoy and find memorable because they involve a lot of people. Not just the targets of the antagonists.
I personally believe that a easy solution to the state of rp is to create more opportunities for conflict and involve more people rather than the target of the objectives.
The rules are strict about involving more than your objectives and thus many dont really go out of the way to do so. As a non antag you literally have to count on the antags to spice the round up.
Without any features. I believe the bee experience would be improved by adding more antags allocations to each round And by running dynamic more often… with more threat.
The more often people get to play as a antagonist the more often they will get comfortable with and and do more gimmicks.
But i don’t Expect to see this happening because it just means admins will need to work on more tickets. And we already have problems sorting player reports at this level of conflict creation.
One of the major problems i see with bee as a whole is the complete lack of things to do for people. Most people are unable to come up with a gimmick every single round, and even just some small structuring to a system designed to give people things to do, (Goon’s Miscreant System), or some other system that allows everyone to have something to do after their 30 minutes of clicking buttons is done
