Having had the time to actually investigate the placement of everything I have the following feedback:
I have no concerns about the service area being isolated and I quite like how it is situated for the same reasons I do on box right now. You did a good job of placing it where it will catch foot traffic from the whole station while at the same time not being in the way.
Why not just make this it’s own map instead of so dramatically changing box’s layout? Give it a new name!
I disagree, Deltastation’s the best for service layout while MetaStation has the most impressive bar.
Why is simple.
Delta has everything close and makes using the Service lathe by all service departments easy, the fax machine is also there now too. getting botany to do shit for the chef on BoxStation also sucks given the two have very little direct access to one another.
Meta station on the other hand has the best bar because of the Club area.
While I personally haven’t cut up the walls to fully unify the Club and Bar/kitchen main area, I’ve had the pleasure of encountering a service staff crew who did and the whole thing was delightful.
Pubby did the bar area extremely well too, especially with the big back table of liquor, but given it’s out of rotation it’s only really anecdotal now.
Cargo on Box station’s only real problem is the weird shape of the loading/unloading area of the shuttle.
This Box Mk2 feels too kilo in it’s size, while box 1 feels outdated compared to the feel of Fland’s.
cargo bay in general.
Additionally it cuts the room needed for the sweet sweet box mining shuttle, which is a highlight of station if I’m remembering correctly.
Box’s shuttle is the nice big one with the two engines, the cargo-bay between the enterance and the cockpit and a really well detailed and considered design and equipment setup if I remember correctly and we don’t have enough cool shuttles like that.
I just still think it’s such a big change to the station layout that a new name would be best to prevent confusion from returning old players or players coming from other servers seeing boxstation and expecting… well, box station layout.
What makes a map be “too old”? Is it because it has been in rotation for such a long while, so that it’s boring for players who have already hundreds of hours spent?
If a majority of players dislike current box and would rather have a new map, then that’s very important feedback. But even in that case, I wouldn’t call the map “too old”.
Changing a map because “it’s too old” without actually presenting criterias for when any map can be considered too old, sounds way too much like change for the sake of change and not because it’s better, to me.
If people enjoy current box then why not go with what Ruko proposed and making it a new map.
Big Fat L, Delta bar is usually empty, theatre is behind 2 doors in a hallway, janibros are also hidden in nowhere, kitchen and Botania are the only good service places. Compare it to box. Theatre is well incorporated into the bar, with a big enough zone. Bar is usually visited by a lot of people dodging the showers I put in the hallways transiting from medbay and the rest of the station. Janibros have their chaditorium right in arrivals, where everyone can see and thank them for being incredibly awesome. Botania and Kitchen are well placed too. Box IS the service station, maybe Rad too.
I’m not changing box because its “too old” im changing it because the layout is bad, and gameplay things have changed since it was made. Like pigeon said, having too many maps in the rotation is bad, and we can easily go back to the mapping poll to see that box was the second least popular map after pubby (tied with kilo)
Yeah I think the destroyed library got old already, I would like to see it as a normal library from now on, having to build your department every shift doesn’t sound cool
I said just Delta’s bar, Not the service area in general, which is why I compared Box’s overall service layout to MetaStation’s
Theater in Box is the definition of something placed either crudely or as an after-thought, Delta’s on the other hand is a nice, closed off, quiet lounge area that is reserved for; playing cards on the felt table, watching musicals, smoking and gambling and isn’t a glass box to cordon off the performers from their immediate drunken audience.
