i don’t see why forcing inter-department shit is a good thing especially when you’re dependant on it roundstart. my experience with this is:
you go to their workspace to ask for shit, they either just don’t exist (because lowpop), are complete shit, or are mr syndicate and are busy murdering someone. ofc you try and break in and do it yourself but half the time some nerd from mrp shoves you and takes your shit
I think it’s strange how people got used to only ever having max potency plants with perfect stats with minimal effort. There’s no point in the plant stat system when all plants will have the same stats by just pouring 1000 of reagents on it.
I don’t remember the last time I used the DNA machine to splice plants stats. It’s only used for splicing reagents/traits.
I use it for plant stats all the time. Because i just grow one max plant and then splice all other plants with its genes. Saves chems.
I make one max stat seed and splice every trait combo I want into copies of it, labeling them with a pen. You can get a max stat 10 yield 100 potency grass seed just using vendor items.
You can get infinite mutagen from glowshrooms and blumpkins. Pure radium from glowshrooms/shadowshrooms serves the same purpose as mutagen. Blumpkins have ammonia to raise plant yields.
Chem dispenser is redundant.
Oh i know all that. I wasnt saying the chem dispenser wasnt redundant. Just that it saves chems to splice genes instead.

to say to all of this, I say no. Dependence on other other departments is fun, but only to an extent. Mutagen and fertilizers are a core part of botany now, and it is awful to expect us to rely on other departments for that. And don’t say break into tech storage, I thought that MRP was trying to move away from tiding. As for the growing of mutagen plants, it is also a pain and can be a bit difficult to set up, especially if you have a bad chemist or no chemist and can’t get mutagen. It is just completely unfun to rely on chem the whole fucking round when literally no other department relies on the other to this extent, with maybe the exception of power from engi, but that takes 3 minutes to set up and is super simple.
Which server are you playing on? On beestation13, you pour in at least 1 unit of robust harvest fertilizer and your plant will never ever mutate on its own.
I’m starting to think all this resistance to change is lack of knowledge about this subject, as even a mentor @Massked doesn’t know that botany makes their own mutagen from plants and prints fertilizer from biogenerator. Nice edit.
I already said that I don’t like mutagen plants, and you cannot print saltpeter from the biogenerator, that is just straight up wrong, you can only print basic ferilizers like robust harvest or ez nutrient
Saltpeter is not a fertilizer, unless you wish to be pedantic and count everything that increases nutriment factor as a fertilizer. There’s only 3 fertilizers in the game: Left 2 Zed, Ez Nutriment and Robust Harvest.
saltpeter is 100 percent a fertilizer, it even says so on the wiki. It seems that you are the uninformed one.

It is not essential to increase potency at all. You can use generational selection with Ez nutriment or microdosing mutagen/radium. For yield you have ammonia from blumpkins.
Fun fact, this requires mutating a plant in the first place, no? Meaning if you cant get any for whatever reason, chem saying no or just outright gone, it’s back to square 1, steal the chem dispenser or at least break in and gain access anyway.

Fun fact, you can use Left 4 Zed for its intended purpose and mutate species whenever plant reaches harvest status.

Why even have a potency stat when it’s entirely ignored by pouring 2 beakers of saltpeter that you get in infinite amounts?
