Why is it that whenever I do a single quote and respond to it, it deletes the quote part and slaps a big orange "EDITED" sign on whatever I've posted?

Try it for yourselves, here. Then I have to manually edit the quoted text back in which gives me yet another big fat “USER HAS EDITED THEIR POST” symbol which makes me look disingenuous to anyone reading what I have to say. Why does it do this? Is it a bug? Is it a feature?

I only really remember it proccing when you quote a single comment, and respond under it.

Edit: just tested it below, and it occured again
