Why does NT hire aliens?

Xenos perform worse at basically everything humans do, so why does NT bother hiring inferior workers?
There’s an infinite supply of ideal human workers through the CLONING MACHINE, so why would they spend more money to sustain life such as the “oozeling” or the “apid”

plasmemes die to 2 brute and cannot be revived
Lizards can’t speak properly, you ask whether they can help with something or not and all they reply is: “no, bussy” ??? ah help me i stepped on glass internal bleeding
Etherals are ugly and expensive
IPCS can get killed from the slightest damage or an emp
dionas are ugly and slow and nobody plays them
i dunno about the rest and i don’t care either, nobody plays them anyways

Imagine you latejoin as a human, only to discover your captain is a talking insect. I have suffered from this situation multiple times
Xenos are expensive pushovers and they need to go

To be fair… who do you see in Medbay? Moths. Who do you see in Cargo? Lizards. Who do you see in Engineering? Plasma memes. And now… where do you see humans? In maintenance as assistants (and also in Science as Scientists). I’m obviously generalizing but I think this is the gist of it.

What of IPCs?

so security can kill them faster

IPCs are revived with extreme ease and perform everything humans do while needing less maintenance. The only cost is dying easier but only ss13 gets all these crazy incidents, so NT wouldn’t optimize survivability.

IPCs are thus NT’s preferred “race”.

They pay less taxes to solgov for nonhuman crew

they hired lizards because they are cool and awesome and they also needed to dispose organs and rats

I mean, from my headlore it is just because those aliens are close by and easy to recruit. Stuff like ipc, oozlings and plasmamen are manufactured to be more loyal and they probably arent too expensive to make, like plasmamen are just a skeleton dipped in acid and we know that nt has a whole graveyards worth of skeletons in their cupboard they wanna dispose of.

Though i think it would be cool if some ailens got payed less or they were barred from certain jobs, if it was like a station trait or something similar, could potentially create some nice tension in a round.

There are some occupation-specific incentives for each species to be employed by Nanotrasen.

For example, IPCs are pretty desirable for how easy it is to repair them and, lore-wise, they make communicating with cyborgs easier. It makes sense for an IPC to work as a roboticist or engineer.

Plasmamen, breathing plasma, makes intuitive sense for them to be atmospheric technicians. They’re also resistant to most viruses, which means they’re sought after as virologists (RIP).

Ethereals are good serviceworkers for their colorful displays (their heads are literally used as disco balls) and engineers as their internal battery can power rooms.

Slimepeople, being fire and heat-resistant, are perfect for being atmospheric technicians and shaft miners.

Dionae are arguably pretty desirable for dangerous jobs like shaft mining, exploring, or working as a command member since their colony bodies allow them to cheat death. They’re also immune to space, which further solidifies them as explorers.

Psyphoza are really good shaft miners and detectives, being able to see through echolocate through walls and see things others cannot. This also gives them a leg up, in some cases, as an officer.

Moths and apids, being insects, are good as botanists (working with plants, bees, and creating clothing for the crew).

Lizards are gross so they’re the perfect maintenance hobo.

Felinids are basically the same thing as a human.

Yeah Number 1 reason why NT hires Aliens is cuz half the time they created em to cut costs until they achieved sentience and Solgov implemented minimum wage :Oozeling , IPC , Plasmeme

Then theres the Intergalactic relations such as the Liznerd Empire which is sorta on par with Solgov and the Smelly moth fleets being raiders and mercs which makes em common

Lastly NT cant Clone endlessly as SSD/being Catatonic is actually a canon form of psychosis induced by cloning (u read about it in the FluffLore for the Prototype Cloner) so it isnt really reliable also prob solgov will be malding

Most accurate post here that everyone is afraid to agree to.

Doesn’t explain why the station is often being commanded by hates-all-humans

I mean, alien races usually hate humans way less than the avg human hates them

I wish we could do an oops all Angus round where everyone plays an Angus Sears clone.

I have proven that plasmamen rule nanotrasen with facts and logic earlier on the forums, that’s why there’s plasmamen employees. They’re the secret sleeper agent keeping an eye on the running of the business.

You literally had a round yesterday as the only Geneticist, could’ve spam cloned yourself all day then with Bacons PR!

Because cloning is ethically and beauracratically complicated.
If NT wanted a clone wage-slave army, then it’d have to answer to earth/core world governments for the ethics of making 2000+ of the same person, also rebellion and defection of such similar, template spessmen would be through the roof given the working conditions.

Additionally the frontier/outer rim worlds are occupied by or in proximity to civilizations like Moth-fleet, the Apids and Etherials. Needless to say simply employing locals is far easier then xenocide or military territory occupation.

Thinking further on it, plasmamen are probably the best worker that nt has, they may be more expensive compared 1:1 with a human, but with the economies of scale they are probably cheaper and carry way more benefits regarding loyalty than a human, like:

  • NT makes them, giving them a fresh mind to indoctrinate with pro NT views.

  • NT has a monopoly on Plasma, effectively being able to suffocate any plasmaman that dares go against them.

  • They are quite resistant to normal station working hazards such as the cold, depressurization and radiation, making them quite fit for working around the engine or in space, environments less fitted for humans.

  • They’re super cheap to produce and maintain, NT has no shortage of dead bodies that they can turn into plasmamen and when fully paid for, their upkeep is way less that than a human, since they don’t need food or water, just a easily available source of plasma. The only expensive part of a plasmaman is their suit, which they probably mostly reuse from other dead plasmamen, though i have no idea how expensive a suit it, wouldn’t surprise me if they forced plasmamen to pay off the suit costs and plasma usage.
