I wanted to do this properly somewhat, so here’s the characters I enjoy seeing who automatically improve the round purely by existing:
Elliot Merryman is my favourite damn officer ever purely for the personal satisfaction of having a partner to bounce off of when I’m playing Sec with the man. Really makes you feel like a Goon in an Arkham game who’s about to get their bones shattered when you chat with him on patrol and I love every second of it. Not to mention the fact he actually does his job in a way that doesn’t entirely revolve around beating in assistants’ knees. Some of my favourite rounds as Sam have been spent in the Interrogation room alongside Merryman. Player is a wonderful Detective player and it shines through when they’re playing SecOff too
Pauline Dubois is up there as my favourite Captain on Bee (Sorry, Gary). The accent works great and they’re just plain fun to be around. I’m usually left giggling after a particularly good Pauline encounter, but that might just be because I find French accents funny (“J’never would heve guessed how much easier une tail made playing le piano.” still makes me laugh and I wasn’t even there for it). Just plain competent at the job too, wonderful as HoS or Cap but I lean more towards Captain with them. Aden is a great Officer too but it feels like cheating giving one player two mentions here so I’m lumping it here.
Sparrow Baker is the best Bartender by a mile. In the current bartending landscape where you’re more likely to see a Deputy with a double barrel than a beer, having someone who can reliably roleplay and build characters behind the bar consistently in a round is a godsend. I have to stop myself from slipping into just BarRP when they’re on the server because of how much fun it is just to interact with them. Talking to them makes me want to put more effort into my characterisation.
I adore EPS and need to stop accidentally showing metafondness to them in rounds. It’s one of those simple gimmicks that’s just executed so well and their presence in a round just makes it exponentially better. They feel more like a part of the world than an actual character and I think it works for them brilliantly, though I do need to interact with Matthew ‘Nullspace’ Fiddler more in game. Has inspired me to pickup the mailbag and have some fun a good few times now.
I’m fond of Huk Nowak as HoS. The man just knows what he’s doing and can lead a force well. Pleasure to work for and against. I could honestly list off half the security regulars here, love playing with them all to death for different reasons. Morgan and Kane especially. Hell, even Maudie Kiefer has her moments as Security if you ignore… everything else about them (Hi Maudie).
Do I even need to talk about Axel or Irish? The majority of my best moments in this game have come about from tagging along with them. Just plain damn fun, even if they do scam me out of my money frequently.
I’m going to see a dozen names after this and kick myself for not including them, the only reason I haven’t gotten horribly burnt out after 1,500 hours in this game is the dynamics that develop with the different personalities on the station.
