Heya folks, out of curiosity to those who play AIs, PAIS and cyborgs, what do you like and dislike about playing those roles?
AI is fun but you’ll have to cope with being perceived as a glorified doornknob by a good chunk of the station
The deafening silence
The AA is super nice on the borg and the laws tend to be simple to follow oh and if you are lucky the robo might put you in a mech suit.
If unlucky he would put you into a AI even if you know nothing about it.
I tend to do this and be like “lol hf and gl”, fully expecting them to not do or know anything and guiding them to the best I can. However, they they are overly against it in-character or local-out-of-character, then I won’t do it. Best way to learn it is to try it!
+you have a overarching view of the entire round so its unlikely to have a whole shift where nothing happens bonus you can see mostly everything. as an AI you are the fly on the wall
~a minxture of a leader/servant you CAN theoretically manage departments but you are also a door jockey
-it is an overarching view you are rather distant from the station’s shenanigans only being able to hear comms and sometimes if you feel like it spy on people with wall radios
-the AI sat is really quiet… open your YT playlist or go insane from sensory depreveation
bad? security players that will kill you the moment you do anything against their will
That isnt exclusive to ai.
As an AI you are a crucial part of the station and can change any scenario in a big way, which makes you an important target.
The drawback is that, if there is a situation where you can’t impact a situation, people tend to forget about the Ai and either ignore you or just bother you to use you as a door opener, which can make your job boring.
I haven’t played AI on this server at all as far as I remember, only on TG and Fulp but my main complaint was people forcing me to enable their gaming. Botanist asking to be let in to chemistry to steal their dispenser? I can’t say no. Detective wanting in the armory “to check for prints” while they actually saw off a shotgun and stash it in their hat? I can set them to arrest for all the good that’ll do.
Its fun talking to the crew, especially when included in someone’s gimmick and being helpful
Sometimes its not fun when its really hard to interact with whatever situation is happening :^)
Where to begin?
The Good:
- You are the voice of the station itself. The ghost in the machine that screams out in pain when the station is harmed. Calls out warnings like an oracle of old, and tragically ignored in much the same manner.
- You are able to help people. From opening doors to sharing information to giving warnings, AI is uniquely suited to being a benevolent technological god, and, especially with a shell and/or borgs, act as if the station is your body and your borgs are your limbs, or perhaps immune system? It’s a wonderful aesthetic.
- There is no ruling as to how AIs are meant to roleplay, aside from following laws. This is a good thing. My roleplay varies in how buggy and pseudocode-esque my speech is, excused as R.A.I.N.C.A.L.L.E.R. being buggy every now and again. Sometimes it’s fun to write things as pseudocode, other times it’s more fun to just be clear.
- In exchange for the loss of your flesh, you have access to all comms, all access, freedom from space law (you have better, more defined laws), access to almost every computer on the station, and the ability to have a number of new cyborg shells limited only by the roboticist’s willingness to add to your retinue. This allows you to be really, extremely, unbelievably helpful! If you find being helpful fun, this is the most fun you can have.
The Bad:
- Cult has a “kill the AI with no counterplay” button they can press at any time. There is no counter to being teleported on top of by a cult wraith before the cult even goes loud. You just get round removed immediately.
- Sometimes people don’t read chat.
Everything else can be worked around. AI is a great role, if you like the character archetype and mechanics
To a cult, AIs are typically too powerful for them to not do it.
I like playing AI because its like an inbetween to actualy playing the round and observing
You get to have a mostly complete overview of whats going down on the station - but you also get to nag evryone about what they should and shouldnt be doing (within limitations of lawset of course)
And if you get to actualy do something like open or close a door or shock something, thats just the cherry on top for me tbh
I feel like people underestimate how much you can get done with a holopad tbh.
It definitely gives you a way to be “present” in the room even without a shell.
Pros;: i love robots
Cons : cyborg shells
the part when a lousy robo think its ultra funny to rename you cause either why not or posibrain was a bit demanding (I really think this is nasty to be forced to use a name you don’t want)
They can… Do that? Wow.
Mean.
Yes, I never thought I could do it against their will, always did what they requested. Time to steal rename boards and do funny Clown stuff. >:D
Yeah I was being a bit of a bossy Posibrain so the lizard robo named me something like Catches-the-Asses after that MAJOR LOSER and after then something like GENRAL LOSER.
