Looking things behind disk is bad
I like exploration, but I’d kind of like if the stations you find had more equipment/the possibility to kind of repair things like you did when Charlie station was around. At least give abandoned explorers something to do.
Though I mostly just miss Charlie station and it was a great ghost spawn to have when you died from something early and had time to make things look nice
People are getting nostalgic over the old space exploration, but it was inferior to super-cruise. it was just flying around in aimless directions (constantly staring at a gps too) until you hit something. Back then, shuttles were a stupid gimmick thing that was useless. It wasn’t even useful for antagonists, as it took way too much time to make. Supercruise made shuttles useful and space exploration more interesting in my opinion.
Exploration is fun to play for me, generally a different experience than any other job. Though I agree with others on the discovery point system.
I think the random ruin generation system needs rework too. Whilst it can generate cohesive stations, I believe some of the more power-gaming ruin structures need wiped clean off of it. Similarly, stuff like Hilbert’s hotel and the syndicate outpost need to be their own separate ruins.
On space ghost spawns, I think certain ghost spawns like the syndicate comm outpost and charlie station (or hotel, if that even exists anymore) should generate round start. (Instead of generating when the shuttle comes to that specific beacon/location).
I would comment on asteroid generation, but I do not have sufficient knowledge to make an argument on them.
exploration brings the same issue that lavaland brought
it takes things off-station which is a awful feature to add
i’m not even going to go into how awful getting a miner/explorer as your assasinate objective is
whats funny to me is demonizing miners and “”“free loot”"" they get and then adding an entire system with lootstations
Me, Miner Explorer Main, upon seeing all the talk of Power gaming stuff.

While I enjoy the gameplay loop of being a Miner or Explorer, personally I find the greatest detriment to either of them is related to their ships.
While I kinda like the fact that one can pilot the mining pod to various places for whatever reason, why one would is an entirely different question. Why the pods don’t just have a button that sends it to the station and lavaland lickity split is beyond me, along side the travel time between the station and Lavaland.
That the Exploration crew has to rely solely on their shuttle is also kind of a bummer, like here’s a good question, why doesn’t the exploration crew also use the gateway? SECOND good question when the hell was the gateway last legitimately used for its purposes of leading to various exotic locations? Last time I remember using the Gateway it was during a round where bluespace and supercruise both shat themselves.
I personally am not robust enough, nor usually have the need to SUPER POWAH GAME with either mining or exploration, not to mention you can bet your ass if you hand me a discovery scanner that I’ll get at least 6000 discovery points assuming I don’t die. I’m a rather mundane miner and explorer.
Miners can also fly to meteors to mine them in the case that megafauna take over the shuttle. I’ve also done it so I can just mine in peace, get at least 2-3 tendrils to myself to open, and also get to scan some new mobs that spawn on asteroid tendrils. I think also the mining shuttle is a nice back up in case explorers get into trouble, I’ve personally checked on them before like some begrudged tow truck driver and helped retrieve the bodies and even killed a assassination target once while they were in the middle of stealing the shuttle.
At least meteors would be good if the generation worked, as far as I know you still have to visit a second asteroid right after the first one you visit in order for it to load. That is one new feature that I do really enjoy, though I think the mining shuttle should be plasma powered like the explorer one.
It’s always confused me on how other shuttles you have to power them with plasma, but the mining shuttle doesn’t require any kind of plasma to function and just pure power from its APC. I’ve even stranded myself by accident because I stayed too long on a asteroid and no one recalled it, so the APC drained and I was stranded.
I know what you mean, I’ve saved an explo once before, it was dicey though because I didn’t know there were EVA suits down at lower section of mining base for a while.
I personally should try asteroid mining, I suppose I’ll have to do that alone though. Also the secondary and tertiary asteroids on Kilo spawn with an amount one can consider too.
if you ask me the APC on the pod should be unlocked, but come to think of it the Science shuttle down at mining base could totally become your personal ride, along side taking a PACman from base to power it.
For asteroid mining you have to be careful, in the morning I’ll literally just make a mini guide for how to do it with how shit the loading of asteroids are.
To asteroid mine you should keep an eye out for two asteroids close-ish to each other. You will pick one to land one, this one will be the “junk” asteroid. This one is one where you will “land” on, just pick anywhere to land the instant you are about to. After you land and the console says “hyperspace lame opening” or whatever the exact words are, you need to immediately relaunch and go to the second asteroid. That second asteroid will load correctly and let you mine to your hearts content. I suggest getting a Fulton pack and 2-3 skeleton keys to avoid any way of getting stranded by miners who ignore your mention that you are going asteroid mining. Also be very careful, the most dangerous mob from a lavaland tendril that you can face are basilisks. They shoot ice beams like watchers but at a much faster speed and if you aren’t a IPC you will die quickly from the burn damage (because your suit traps the cold). I almost died even with a survival medpen as a lizard because I got shot three times before I managed to use a pen and my Fulton pack
If you don’t immediately relaunch from the first asteroid you can get the shuttle stuck as it tries to land in a unloaded area (I waited for 10 minutes once and it wouldn’t load) and you might have to ahelp a admin to fix it. I’ve had to do it before already
The idea of using space travel to go somewhere except of the station and lavaland is cool, but fucking up the entire game’s balance only to force people to play as your unfinished legally distinct pre-lavaland miners while not encouraging explorers to get discovery points in any way is an approach to the problem for which explo developers should be restricted to do any gamedev for a while
Imagine bee supercruise but it works like space in heat signature. That’d be perfect
Of course, it’s most likely technically impossible
Research shouldn’t be dependent on exploration, just like it’s not dependent on miners. Instead they should be able to boost the research. Just like maxcaps. You don’t have to make one, but it’s a nice boost if you do.
Also the team should be smaller.
It’s better to scale the minimal mission difficulty (amount of enemies or amount of enemies per room) with the team size. For example, if a derelict is too easy for a team of 4, it doesn’t show up in bounty list and explo can visit it, but they are not encouraged to do it. Or maybe the amount of spawned enemies should be correlated with amount of alive and sentient (not in SSD) crewmembers and functioning mechs on the shuttle (calculating how each of the items in their inventory can make fights easier would be too hard, so we only can count mechas and maybe something else)
