There are weapons lockers and such, it’d be just a mapping thing to add lil’ retrieval cubbies to brig prolly.
We really at the point where the super nerfed dets revolver is considered too strong
The end is upon is

Examining is too strong, we should give it a 10 seconds cooldown or make it take time to process
Lethal ranged weapons are inherently strong, coming from a point of PURE SoP adherence the detective shouldn’t have a gun unless there are LEGITAMATELY no officers on duty.
also quoth* the ghost roll antag who ran into me after 6 rounds of .38, : “OMG VALID HUNTING DETECTIVE SHOT MY LEG OUT AND SHOT ME TO DETH ADMIN BAN HE !1!111!!”
See my major issue isn’t if the revolver is strong or not, it’s that a detective is given it and expected to not use it until it’s practically red-alert and sec itself is under siege.
If you ask me the detective SoP doesn’t make sense for the stylings, equipment and overall involvement of them in SEC affairs, if their whole job is limited entirely to “soley identify a person, who is going to get immediately valid whacked by SEC collectively thereafter and nothing else” UNLESS the department is entirely understaffed, then grab your .38 and take the brig phys and HoS’ hands as the man in the black trench coat whisks you away to manhunt land.
*gross hyberbole for dramatic effect
So we all agree that:
- Have a “smartfridge” for either Weapons or ammo, maybe put together the Sectech with this new Smartfridge to have a shared pool for content.
- The Detective’s revolver should stay as is, but get access to extra ammos only via Warden or via the current Techfab (ONLY for non-lethal ammos, aka rubber bullets or trackers).
- On that note, there should be a dedicated Ammo tech fabricator and eventually, a dedicated Gun tech fabricator, while keeping non-lethal content to the current Techfab.
EDIT: Sorted stuff up and, maybe, also give ballistic gun fire different sounds, mainly to distinguish between what’s a lethal ammo or a non lethal ammo.
hell yeah, a dedicated ammo printer/mill/lathe that churns out speed loaders, WT mags and Shotty shells (maybe in boxes like dart boxes? loading shells into boxes by hand is a pain in the ass and not good for red-alert scenarios.)
Yeah the detective shouldn’t have access to lethals if seccies shouldn’t either, unless the alert allows it and the Ward/HoS call for it, they don’t need access to lethal rounds.
On some maps there are little counter tops dedicated to warden to hand stuff out from armory, in the case of those maps replacing the countertop and it’s windoor with an armory transfer chute/receptacle smart fridge thing would be better.
softening the sharpness of the round firing off on rubber shot and beanbag shells and .38 rubber rounds would be a nice touch.
Thanks coder bro!
I really like the tray idea, just like a chute that is accesibile for both parties, instead of warden having to open windoors, he drops stuff in the shute which is basically an storage space that can hold several items of different sizes, this can also go for hop office where instead of dropping an id on the table, you load the chute with an id with optionald soul draining paperwork.
Because the .38 is for the det, and the warden already has something better in the contraband locker most of the time it’s a stechkin but you can also get crazy shit like a desert eagle from that locker.
I was the nightmare that you killed. I only ahelped because deadchat at the time was collectively was losing their shit over you.
ah yeah nothing personal with the hyperbole man, I probably could have skipped the 12 other rounds I dumped into you after the first cylinder but the way the station was between at large traitors and I think it was 2 members of SEC unfit for duty, I heard “Nightmare Sci” and my mind was like “Not crew + situation decaying + fuck me I’m not letting this station turn into night station”
Just get new IDs? I fail to see how that leaves them “unable to perform their duty”. PDA bombs dont cause permanant deafness unless their ears are already damaged, and acting cap or HoP can easily issue new IDs. If the situation is so dire that this is impossible, the captain, HoP, acting captain, and spare ID are all absent, then maybe the shuttle should probably be called.
If I know the round you are talking about, I was part of dchat. This particular incident was maybe the 5th round in a row where the detective was out blasting people when there were other security officers alive. From what we had seen, the nightmare was just doing nightmare stuff, smashing lights. breaking lights isnt really something that warrants hunting them down and killing them when other things are going on.
Maybe its just because I observe a lot, but there is a decently high frequency of Detectives who go out of their way to hunt down antags and either arrest or kill them, and significantly less detectives who actually do detective stuff. Watching detectives constantly go out of their way to chase down antags when that is explicitly not their job unless they are the only security member is sort of annoying. The detective has cool things he can do, leave hunting down the suspect you identified to secoffs.
If you ask me it isnt about it being strong. Its about the detectives abusing having a gun round start.
I stand by my comment, it is a comment on the general state of the game and the direction that beestation is going. Super pacifistic no conflict avoid death at all costs, which is the opposite of what i believe ss13 was about to begin with, but in the end im no longer a part of the community really and if thats the direction the community wants to go then so be it.
If detectives cant hunt antags then sec officers cant investigate crime scenes either, because lets be honest, whoever commited a crime is super obvious due to security gets off way too easy when it comes to “evidence”. Ive several times been arrested for random bullshit that officers have no proof of, ahelped it and just been replied “but its obvious you did it they dont need proof(simplified)”. If youre gonna make the detecive work then hold security accountable on the reasons they arrest people. That isnt to say i commited the crime but the evidence most of the time is 80% meta knowledge and 20% bullshit they made up.
hey by the time that officer got his ID back I’d capped that shadow ling, that guy was out of the game for really friggin long because of an utter lack of command staff (I may be mistaken, but I think HoS was acting cap and I know he got Bombed too)
With all the stuff that can occupy a 2 man command staff, it can take upwards of 5 minutes to get one guy issued a new ID, I know this because I’ve personally been stuck in that command rut 3 times now.
I totally get it. The only reason why I care is because thats the way beestation wants to be now. I’m all for chaos, I enjoy the more chaotic rounds, and I am personally for more lenient rules when it comes to rp stuff. If that was the way bee wanted to go, i would be for detective being sec officer lite. but its not the way they want it to be, so him being sec off lite doesnt work now.
I guess I’ve got a personal issue with Detective, namely in the way the job is suposed to be according to the server overlords, the way it winds up being and how so many people seem to take the role inspite of the often desperate need of actual SEC officers in lower population rounds.
perhaps the SEC officer role should be made from a weighted “Never, low, medium, High” choice to a binary “No, Yes” choice like Cargo technician on some servers.
I don’t know, maybe the game should check for sec officers and if someone is rolling detective as the only sec member, force them into sec off.
Department priority list? check mark each department you want to play as (and perhaps department priority) then have a script that funnels you through based on qualifications, selected jobs in the department and goes a bit like “Basic Department member” (Sec officer, Researcher, Cargo technician, Medical doctor, Janitor) and then if you’re qualified then it may select you for a command role in that department.
But other wise it won’t fill out roles like Detective, brig phys, bartender, QM, psychiatrist, roboticist, explorer, until a minimum basic staff quota has been reached.
