The Maggot Guy MENTOR Application

Your CKEY: TheMaggotGuy

Your Discord: The Maggot Guy#3950 (I’m never on there and I don’t know how to use it but if I can learn how to use the forums here I can probably learn discord)

How long have you been playing ss13?: Since mid january 2020

Who vouches for your experience (if anyone)?: Ruko Probably, Kate Bishop, Crab Rave, probably a few others

Who vouches AGAINST your experience (if anyone)?: Zane Blake (maybe, maybe not lol), the people I’ve ahelped who are now banned, the nukies team that one time I spent all our TC on crab phones, had us wait 15 minutes, and then promptly died due to forgetting my fucking o2 tank on my hardsuit 2 steps out of the shuttle

Game Experience (More Detailed):

I’m coming up on 400 hours here at Beestation and I felt it was time I started to help the game and its community, as much as I’ve played here.

While my understanding isn’t too terribly deep in some areas, I have a fairly decent understanding over almost ALL areas, which I feel mkes up for it. For example, even though I may not know how to do an advanced sm, I can still set it up, (and understand why, and how to destroy it), I can fix a simple hull breach, but not necessarily the wiring or the piping. I could make synthflesh as chem but not one of those fancy auto makers people have been building lately. My best areas are service and command, while my worst are science and cargo. I’m particularly well versed in robo, and can look up any recipies for anything I don’t understand quite easily (such as for barty, chem chef, etc). I also know other basic systems, like making nades or consoles, and I know how to put in an AI law the right way to get it to do what you want.

What I don’t know:
Anything to do with Botany or Cargo. Neither seemed particularly interesting to me and I only played enough cargo/shaft miner to get to get HOP unlocked. I never play shaft miner (as it seems like an entirely different game), I don’t have what chem does what memorized as for healing or harm, I don’t know how to set up atmos, for science I don’t know what order you should buy the techs in or how to upgrade the machines witht he upgrader gun (the latter seems pretty simple though, I’ve literally just never done it). Also whenever I set up solars I’m never quite sure if I’ve done it right, so I wouldn’t be able to explain that.

As for antags the only one I don’t understand very well is Cult, and I don’t 100% know what all of/the best traitor items are. I’m also unfamiliar with the “LRP Only” Antags, and The only 2 mid-round antags I’ve been able to play were Ninja and Sentient disease, and then, each only once.

I am, however, pretty familiar with the rules, as I like to look at the ban appeal threads, and I’ve ahelped/been bwoinked enough to know what is and isn’t okay. As far as notes go, aside from a thing when I was so new I didn’t know what self-antag was, and a time where I didn’t know about the “New Rulings” rules, there has really only been one time I’ve actively done something that was against the rules, and immediately after I apologized, as I realized, and still understand, that what I did was not okay.

I also play a bit of observer for those sweet sweet pAI/Midround ghost roles

TL;DR, Jack of all trades, master of few, with a pretty clean record for almost 400 hours of pure gameplay here, and after 400 hours, I can at least help out new players learn the ropes.

Besides the fact you don’t know how to use discord, you don’t even know solars, literal wires, you don’t know how to use a research console and or upgrade stuff and you main PAI, you actual characterization of a chinese lowwage worker

I can totally use the console I just don’t know in what order to buy the techs, and I know how to literally pop open a machine add better parts, not how to upgrade without opening it.

I don’t main pAI though? I kind of just play everything, not even 1 of the roles (besides being dead) breaks 10% of my playtime.

You fill up the RPED with a bunch of parts you make in the prolathe. If you have a basic RPED then you gotta screwdriver the machine open and click on it, if you have the bluespace RPED then you just gotta click on it to instantly upgrade.

You’ve put in over 450 hours in four months of play?

I’m not 100% sure why you tagged me, but I know with that record you’re completely obsessed with the game. A general jack of trades is also good to help with the newest of players, but you’re missing a lot of experience in the question heavy areas.

I’ll come back with a vote when I have a solid opinion - you did a really good job of detailing what you don’t know, while not really selling what you do at all.

It feels like you have very basic knowledge in most areas, but no in-depth knowledge in enough areas to be highly valuable to the community as a mentor. You even admitted you don’t know how to wire or pipe, which can be fixed with a couple hours and the wiki. Cargo is incredibly easy to understand, and admitting you don’t care about it past unlocking HOP is rough. Plus, we have a LOT of mentors. Any new ones should really bring something special to the team.

uh
it would appear so

I can make any robot easily
I can make any machine or console easily
I know how to use an rcd
I can do a basic sm setup and basic air filter setup.
I know how the sec arrest console works and sec procedure when arresting
I know how to make any food as chef if given the recipie, and any chem as chemist as well.
I know how to make any virus as viro, as well as cure it and distribute a vaccine.
I can make grenades and smoke bombs and know the different beaker sizes
I know how to make any drink as bartender, and I know how to fortify sec correctly so someone can’t just go in the left door and the right exit to create an easy to enter diagonal door hole into the brig

What kind of stuff usually gets mhelped?

The one majorly important thing i don’t know is hacking, mostly because I don’t tide into places or I’m already an antag that could get in otherwise.

I am very good at not using ock info in ick. At one point, I got killed by the malf AI at round start (being the target) and as a pAI for someone interested in disabling the AI to cause chaos on the station (they were tator) I did not utter a peep about it being malf.

So you… follow rules? Okay?

-1 we have plenty of mentors, what we really could use with is a ticket system and specialists in lesser known areas of knowledge.

The total for those of us keeping score at home is currently -4.

Unless Godofsex is actually a mentor.

It feels like you have very basic knowledge in most areas, but no in-depth knowledge in enough areas to be highly valuable to the community as a mentor.

Very basic knowledge across a lot of areas is still valuable, especially with a solid list of what he DOES know available now.

So you… follow rules? Okay?

Have you seen half our mentors bro? This is a huge plus, and bad notes/behavior has been a major influencer in my decision not to offer +points to mentor apps. Mentors have access to a higher level of metaknowledge about the round than other players and have to be trusted not to act on it IC.

we have plenty of mentors

I also disagree with this, and even if we did I don’t think there can ever be too many so long as they’re all fulfilling the job to some extent.

I throw in my +2 now that I have a solid list of what you do know, particularly because you understand the SM and a handful of jobs that otherwise require constant, heavy wiki-diving to do (Chemist, Viro, Bartender, Grenades)

Additionally with your play record so far, you’re only going to keep learning and I’ve already seen a willingness to better yourself and the community through private discussions/warnings and interactions.

-1 doesnt know botnis and chad miner

Banned from command lole1!!!1!

it’s dimas if he still counts as mentor n word

+1 as the things he doesn’t know can be easily learned by 20 mins of wiki digging.

We have many mentors, yes, but mentors play the game themselves while answering the questions and having more mentors increases the chance of questions beign answered.

That’s wasn’t Dimas, it was Slav.

  • Started a few months ago so obviously on a lot and invested

I don’t think Maggot is shitter, they just get full tilt and act on it too often. I have worries they will become a cronic line-toe boi while also ahelping everything they see.

That said, they usually come back at the end of the rage with a clear head and reasonable opinions/arguements. They understand the intention of MRP pretty well and actually care to make the place better.

As for knowing specific things, I don’t care too much about that. Mentorhelp questions for people who actually want to help will lead a person to learn more. More mentors does not cause any problems, it is shitter mentors being an example of the community I don’t like.

T: -2 (GodofSex is a ban evade account and their vote doesn’t count)

I’ll vouch for you, I’d like to see how you do. As much as I don’t like shitposting mentors, we’ll see how ya do.
1+ for now.
