note to self
IF explo update. add 100 ghost roles. just in case
Wont Permadeath just make it so Antags would get round removed even quicker then before as sec usually takes a good hour to bother with the corpse they blasted if things are busy or if one accidently dies in prison,
not to mention on high pop rounds with a respawn most jobs are going to be filled up, i think dynamic would even shutter at the thought if all the Antags get RR’ed and returned as normal crew
I think this would encourage even more fear and bullshit strats
Antags will Hide
Sec will get more aggresive
And Every other Zlevel is a Guranteed RR
Adjusting the rules to suit permadeath could help address some of that. E.g., if a prisoner dies in custody, could be done as a demotion or such
Admins would probably be a lot more harsher on Security preventing revival.
Feels like this could be often charged with manslaughter, maybe even prime murder if sec outright refuses to deal with someone they had to take down lethally.
Also epi pens should give a few extra minutes of grace for the newly dead, since getting someone dead from a gunfight to medbay might be difficult.
TsunamiAnt going for the hat-trick of controversial PRs that will get shutted down when everyone starts screaming

I think if permadeath was added a look at stasis removal may also need to be revisited (if either of them are TM’d or pushed)
Also, I don’t know how possible it would be since the other server shutdown. But what if there was a closed TM server for large changes such as that? Gauge opinion with those regular or in the discord?
I am the bravest coder in the history of beestation. I do not care what the others think, if i like something i will PR it. I am a radical. A free thinker. I have a dream, an ideal, and i will NEVER hesitate to strive for it.
So do I. Time to remove all jobs except Explorer. ![]()
I’m one of the few medbay mains left. I was considering leaving, and I’m still uncertain, but it’s not exactly due to where the code is heading. Rather, it’s the helplessness I feel when I see a new PR being made. A few factors have lead to my dissatisfaction, and it’s not burnout. I’ll break them into a few groups, and explain each as well as I can. I’ve been hesitant to speak, because I am rather emotional, but I figure I should.
Code
First, code. I’d like to clarify that I am not upset with the PRs themselves, and the stasis bed removal doesn’t upset me due to the removal of stasis. I feel as though every time something is removed or changed in medbay, there has been no one watching the effects that come from this.
Virology
Virology was removed, and viruses were not altered in a way that kept in mind the effect medbay and chemistry players would be affected. There have been more than one instance of 27 symptom viruses as a level 7 biohazard. There have also been instances of uncurable viruses. This is a mix of genuinely uncurable viruses, and medical players genuinely not knowing how to treat some viruses. Medbay has never had to know how to cure viruses, and now more than ever viruses are wiping rounds due to people not knowing. It’s been a while, nothing has changed there. Even if it’s just something to help medbay with the knowledge that’s missing from virology mains (who didn’t join into the medbay roster and instead moved to other departments), it would be appreciated. I don’t know what to do, but the game state there is just not fun. Virology access is not available to doctors.
Medibots
The removal of medibots has altered the game state in a way that I don’t really know how to comment on. Chemistry was expected to fill the medibots, but that has not been seen. Where before medibots were too powerful, now they can’t even bandage someone before a doctor could and…That’s their only purpose. If they find and epi a person, it’s not really done anything that someone else wouldn’t end up doing. They feel…lackluster, and utterly useless. Every so often it might have helped someone but I haven’t seen it.
Lack of Chemistry
There is a constant lack of people playing chemistry. With the medibot and virology changes, more duties have been added to chemistry. Medibots need to be filled to be useful and viruses need cures from the chemist. Usually if there’s no chemist it’s pretty lowpop. Lately though, there have been too many instances on highpop where a chemist isn’t there and a CMO isn’t present either. At that point, you need to constantly fill in the chemistry role. Most doctors, especially with most doctor mains being gone, can barely do chemistry. Getting access rarely means much when the cure to a virus is krokodil (which actually happens surprisingly often). Between the flow of patients on highpop and the requests in chemistry, it’s difficult to do both. It shouldn’t be down to that, and the results aren’t very great.
The loss of old players and the flood of new ones
Getting new players isn’t bad. It’s only natural that old players will leave. Medbay mains that have been here a while have dropped out over the course of a few months, and I just can’t see that as a coincidence with the former issues being there at the same time. That is done and dusted though. Right now, there are a ton of new medbay players and a general lack of knowledge all around. In the current state, I’m concerned for the effects of the coming PR.
Stasis bed removal
Stasis beds aren’t something I’m particularly attached to. They’re convenient, but I’ll live without them. That being said, there are certain things that are round removal in a matter of minutes without stasis. Slime virus and Gondala virus in particular. Well, viruses in general would be much worse without stasis and the CURRENT state of viruses. (27 symptom viruses) These are things that came to mind immediately, but I don’t think they should affect the removal of stasis at all. Rather, I feel that things that have gone on for a long time due to former tweaks to medbay are going to become a lot more of an issue with the removal of stasis. This is yet another PR that has a likelihood of making the chemist a more necessary role. (Formaldehyde) Chemistry in its current state of play makes that thought distressing. I know that there are going to be a lot of things I haven’t thought of yet that will happen as a result of this PR and I’m very fearful that it will be another case of these issues being unseen. With everything in medbay, it just seems a change that needs to be thought through and watched carefully for things that pop up as a result. I hope things that aren’t strictly bugs but negatively affect gameplay will be tweaked. Past experiences make me believe that won’t be the case. I hope I’m wrong.
Sorry if this is all over the place.
Been around since 2019, did the biggest chunk of my 2500 hours during 2021 and this year.
I’m primarily a low pop player.
I used to main sec/command.
I play mining and exploration now.
I voted that the server has declined.
If we look back at 2019, I’d argue the game is better now. Main factors being the rule set changes and technical improvements.
2021 was very good, in my experience.
I feel like 2 primary factors influence my decision: Dynamic and feature removal.
Dynamic has made lowpop especially into a hellscape where often times 1/3rd or more of the crew are antagonists. This isn’t fun for security, command, crew or the antags themselves. Quite often if an antag does a higher-effort gimmick, it gets over-shadowed by another antag doing low-effort, high-impact actions. Low pop security feels awful to play since you risk more often than not being up against 3 traitors on a 6 person round.
We used to have more player-driven events before dynamic, too. Now I feel like people are afraid to start up court cases, or mech tournaments ETC because it will 9/10 times get derailed by dynameme spamming antags.
Low pop has been completely devoid of these kinds of events, especially. And I’ve seen some of our newer low pop players express their distaste towards antags, since often times they aren’t making rounds more fun, and are instead just causing uncontested chaos and grief for the station.
Regarding feature removal… Virology being removed does not sit well with me. (and I have zero viro hours)
I don’t like the idea that we need to remove everything powerful or ‘tism fort’-ish from the game. I like the scifi and space elements of this game, and if we just remove everything thats strong, we’ll basically be a shitty Habbo Hotel chatroom.
I understand that the idea behind viro removal was that the impact a viro could have on the round was disproportionate to their level of interaction, and that makes logical sense.
Where I disagree is with full on removal rather than tweaking it to either be less strong, or encourage a bit more interaction.
I’m sort of concerned that if we go down this road of removing strong things like medibots, nanites, stasis beds and virology, we will end up a bleak, uninteresting and featureless server. Or at least that the scifi space opera setting will be diluted beyond recognition.
In the end, my overall opinion is that dynamic needs to be changed first and foremost. My attitude towards feature removal could be swayed or shifted, but I’ll never say anything good about the current state of dynamic.
I also think dynamic has fostered the current roster of sec statics who are forced to game as hard as they can within the rules to keep up with the constant stream of antags.
Sec officers are doing cringe tactics like buckling people to chairs mid combat and shove locking people at a way higher rate than what I used to experience.
a bit on the viruses you talked of, the level 7 biohazard adds more symptoms the longer into a round it is.
The viruses you speak of are specifically designed and intended to end the round, to be absolutely horrible and damn near impossible to cure is their purpose. It’s the epidemic end scenario of beestation rounds.
Didn’t zams say that the virus wasn’t meant to be like that?
What if chemistry as a job got removed access to it would be moved to Medical doctors, since that is already happening. Same thing with Virology access could be done.
dunno!

From my point of view, I’d dislike that. If I wanted to play chem I’d chose chem. Having it as an additional task to do when thats not what you’re in the mood for can just be a pain. Others probably won’t think the same but thats how I feel atleast
My biggest gripe with current beestation is the fact that i have absolutely no incentive to start bigger projects with how harsh dynamic is. I can count on fingers of one hand the amount of times i managed to complete one (custom shuttle, pirate bar etc.) before everything goes to shit in the middle of it.
On the other hand if we didnt have antags it would turn into bar rp so its purely a me problem really.
its not just a you problem
Dynamic is way overboard
I currently see it similarly to cargo, where there is mail to be delivered, but treated as “Do it if you want to”, but not forced.
Same as chemistry, if there is no chemist, the station won’t die, but it will just suck or be harder. As a doctor, you aren’t forced to do it, but if there is no one working there, some of us will just fill in that role voluntarily.
