Ban Length:
None
Ban Date (YYYY/MM/DD/):
2023/01/29
Round ID:
Not sure? A round or two before 42468, station was Box Station if that helps.
Ban Reason:
As Pirate Captain, after they decided to keep the ship from docking because of a catastrophic meteor event announcement, went silent school shooter mode and shot two security officers and an unarmed assistant in riot armor. To their credit, also tried to negotiate with a hostage before, but then they went and smashed the gravity gen and killed an AI that wasn’t actively preventing them from looting. Rather argumentative in ticket.

Appeal Reason:
I was literally noted for killing three members (one was actually apparently an assistant in SWAT armor) of security and the AI as a pirate captain, which was referred to as going “school shooter” mode and they referred to in ticket as “murderboning”.
Killing the AI and security members makes the station easier to loot.

I also wasn’t the one who ordered the ship not to park, that was my mate, I just didn’t overrule him, trusting his judgement because he could see the meteor level on the ship console and I couldn’t, later on the ship was apparently physically unable to move due to the second set of pirates spawning, I have no idea about how any of that works (or doesn’t, rather).

It’s worth noting that the initial ticket started because I killed the AI, the third officer I killed was in space by departures pursuing me, so it was really exactly two sec I killed when the bwoink began in earnest, thus ending my pirate captain shift.

I feel that this is an egregious misunderstanding of the rules and standards regarding pirate gameplay, especially when you consider that a considerable amount of pirates start by pre-emptively attacking security via rushing the armory.

Additional Information:
Here’s nearly the entire admin ahelp logs, read from bottom up.

PM from Administrator to You

: That’s literally the IC way to mention an admin yelling at you. ##Now, you may notice, the entire first part of the adventure, the looting the vault, the raiding the RD’s locker, were looting focused. After that, it was dealing with the consequences of this, I.E, space fight with security, and preparing for that. Hence the jetpack stealing.

18:53:33

PM from You to Administrator

: Still. I don’t see you discussting looting much from your say logs, just smashing or killing stuff. And the commengs about ‘gods being mad at you’ were kind of ick ock too…

18:52:25

PM from Administrator to You

: Exactly.

18:52:01

PM from You to Administrator

: The assistant wasn’t a secoff, but with him wearing armor the confusion is understandable.

18:51:16

PM from Administrator to You

: I’m aware, the difference being when I got banned for going out of my way as a pirate, I was actually murderboning, not just killing members of sec or the AI. By “people” do you mean members of security, who are contractually obligated to try and kill or stop me? No admin has ever had a problem with this before.

18:49:38

PM from You to Administrator

: I saw you plant the C4 on the teleporter, yeah. But, before that, you were just shooting people up.(?|F) Not the best behaviour tbh, especially considering that you’ve gone out of your way as a pirate before.

18:47:45

PM from Administrator to You

: The primary thing I’ve been focusing on is to gather loot, I was actually trying to get the hand teleporter so I could break into the various officers with lockers, but someone sort of bwoinked me in the middle of that.

18:46:56

PM from You to Administrator

: Listen, as I’ve also said, you didn’t focus on gathering loot after you found out your ship couldn’t dock, you just went school shooter mode

18:45:39

PM from Administrator to You

: Wilson, there’s nothing wrong with smashing the grav gen and(?|F) using backpacks, I’ve literally only shot people who were sec members/literally in combat gear. Murderboning would be killing innocents who aren’t a present threat, of which I’ve killed none, except perhaps the guy in combat armor.

18:43:19

PM from You to Administrator

: You’re still going around the halls shooting people up(?|F) instead of gathering loot to drop it off later when the shuttle can land. Honestly feels like you’re using your pirate roll to murderbone, what’s with you smashing the grav gen and(?|F) grabbing jetpacks then using them to game

18:42:26

PM from Administrator to You

: If someone is in combat gear I assume they’re to fight. Sec decided not to negotiate with us despite our hostage, now they’re reaping what they sowed.

18:41:55

PM from You to Administrator

: And(?|F) you decided to shoot first, ask questions never.

18:41:18

PM from Administrator to You

: You mean the one in the SWAT suit? I assumed they were a member of sec.

18:41:03

PM from You to Administrator

: You’ve also killed that random crew member in the hall, why?

18:40:30

PM from Administrator to You

: I feel like you’re asking many leading questions here. If I can’t survive security, I can’t loot stuff. Pirates are murderbone antags with a focus on the goal of looting stuff, looting stuff is easier without an AI calling out your location or security trying to shoot you. Again, other admins have described the AI as a valid target to me. Of course, I’m sort of on a looting hiatus right now because the ship can’t be parked due to meteors.

18:38:54

PM from You to Administrator

: Eh, to me it looks like you’re focusing on combat a lot more than looting stuff, which is your primary goal as pirates. Why’s that?

18:34:38

PM from Administrator to You

: Other admins have described the AI as a valid target to me for pirates, because of what they do for the station and against pirates.

18:34:00

PM from You to Administrator

: Could you tell me why you smashed the AI? Seems to be far from your goal of stealing stuff

18:33:41

PM from Administrator to You

: Sure

18:33:37

PM from You to Administrator

: Hey, sorry to interrupt, got a minute?

If you ask me, smashing your way to the AI sattelite, killing the AI without saying a single word to it, then smashing the grav gen APC apart, stealing a jetpack and wordlessly gunning down three people in the halls leans far more into the “gamer” playstyle rather then “plunderin’, stealin’ and pillaging” that pirates should be doing.
Also to note that while your deckhands were trying to engage with the crew (took a hostage, tried to ransom her, also took the AI after you killed it and tried to ransom it too) you did nothing of the sort.

Wilson, I’m not sure how many times you’ve killed an AI, but if you stop to talk to it while it’s under the time limited, EMP effects, while you’re surrounded by turrets, you’re just going to die. Killing the AI is always going to be a race against time, either the EMP wears off or sec arrives, either one would be a disaster.

You’re accusing me of being insufficiently pirate-like because I killed hostile figures of authority after looting the vault and RD’s locker, while my ship was unable to dock.

You accused me of being a “school shooter” after I had killed two sec, while I was in the middle of trying to breach into the teleporter room, which seems a bit premature.

By your standards of piracy, you should remove the bulldog and replace it with a cham kit, you could steal far more efficiently that way. I was literally doing the dictionary definition of pillaging, the only reason that I didn’t wind up stealing anything after killing those two was that I got interrupted by you.

Your job is to steal, and the bulldog being capable of knocking down doors helps with that, killing the AI doesn’t help you with this goal, nor does killing random crew in the halls.

Killing the AI absolutely helps with making stealing a lot easier in the same way that killing the captain does, it decapitates their ability to organize and respond to your raids. Even more so with the AI, as the AI can spot the air and power alarms call out where you’re hitting to security accordingly. And they weren’t random crew, they were sec, well, one was an assistant wearing full SWAT armor, who I assume was mobilized or something.

I’m not sure how you came to the conclusion that they were random crew.

I think i was AI that round (D.A.L.A.I, database skin) and, althought i do consider the AI a fair Target for most antags, i also have to Say that i saw You running around the Halls killing people who had done exactly nothing to You, one guy who was just passing and got shot dead almost on the spot, and i am pretty sure you would have killed the lawyer too had You not run out of bullets.

The rest of the dchat said that blowing up the grav gen Is a classic strategy of yours so you can use the jetpack inside the station, i don’t really think that doing this really helps you a whole Lot in looting More than it does in killing but i might be wrong. Otherwise you did act like a normal pirate.

I literally passed like half a dozen or more random civilians in the halls. I’m not sure if I saw any lawyers, but they weren’t in danger unless they were geared up for combat. I also didn’t run out of bullets, I had a backpack full.

Blowing up the grav gen helps a lot with mobility, which is important for both looting or killing. Heck, mobility is why I was going for the hand teleporter in the first place, the ability to beam into a room with the locker and then beam out is decisive for stealing budgets, or actually just about anything. I was out of green shells/c4 by this point, and trying to conserve X-4, by the way.

as both an AI player and someone who did pretty much this exact same behavior as a pirate captain in the last few days, subverting/stealing/killing the AI is absolutely valuable to your continued existence as a pirate. probably the main thing they got upset at you about is that you didn’t roleplay/speak much? i would suggest throwing out a few dumb piratey insults every now and then since that seems to satisfy everyone while you go on your adventure of plunder and conquest.

security kills are protected under antag conduct though so i’m not really sure why that’s in here

Haven’t forgotten about this by the way. I’m dealing with a number of appeals at the moment and since this is a note appeal it’s by far the lowest priority.

After some thought
I’ll obviously be removing the ‘school shooter part’ of the note as that is in bad taste.

Okay? You’re still prioritizing winning over roleplay. You also did not say a peep to the crew while you were roaming the halls.

That would be correct.

Overall I’m not willing to remove the note, but I’ll wait on a second opinion from another staff member.

Right, we’ve had the talk, I’ll be rewording the note to

As a Pirate Captain, focused more on gaming rather than looting, roleplaying or trying to make the round more interesting
