No one likes monke virus and you nearly never see romerol zombies appear.
zombies is ok but it needs some mechanic like an ‘alpha’ zombie or something with some kind of stun/ranged attack otherwise it suffers from the same issues as monkees but even worse because monkees can at least move fast/vent crawl/use weapons where as zombies are highly visible/move slow/cant use items and get kited by anyone with a crowbar and some floor tiles easily
Maybe the special infected should spawn like gorillas do, as roundstart, and there should be multiple, random assigned classes.
transmission needs to speed up depending on how much damage you take from zombies too

As far as ideas for gorillas to make them more fun:
Maybe the gorillas could benefit from new features? Something like being able to quickly lift most objects - could be a vending machine, or table, or unwrenched chemical dispenser - to then throw, use a barrier, or what have you.
You might pick up a monkey ally and hurl them at someone to knock both down and get a bite in since the design seems to be slow gorilla and fast moankay.
Parts of the gamemode that never really change:
- AI never gets subverted by apes
- Menial crew gets infected, comms alerts security, security takes 5-15 minutes to mobilize and arm up with lethals
- N2O flooding wins the round pretty easily
- If the virus is winning, the round is extending too long because it requires too absolute of a victory (maybe set goal to <80% conversion)
- If the crew are winning, the round is extending too long to hunt the last monkies
- Crew benefit from one or two people fighting without restraint, then suiciding before infection turns them
- supercooled air in vents
- monkeys are basically very bad humans with no protection even against flash
Gorillas should have a 100% infection chance. People turning to monkies can not hurt monkies or gorillas. Gorillas get a ranged attack and able to destroy non reinforced walls? Turning to monkey is much faster, 30 seconds or less should be good.
if someone with smoker quirk gets infected he becomes smoker zombie, he can stun people 3 tiles away for 2 seconds
same goes for someone with parkour quirk, he becomes hunter, can jump like a bee and knock people
Honestly, I can see zombies having a lot more depth compared to monkeys in terms of possible mechanics and creativity. Smoker zombies sound badass and there’s also a lot more possible source material for a zombie virus/outbreak gamemode.
Maybe add ‘pacifist’ to the disease for a round and see how it goes to trial this.
My favorite suggestions for this game-mode all kinda come to the same conclusion - the game mode doesn’t play out differently when its round-start. So what if it was mid-round, and apes were appropriately given more advantages to compensate?
Still, at the end of all this… isn’t it just a lesser mode to zombies?

We could just blatantly steal ideas for zombies from a game like CDDA. Ie. Shocker zombies would really be cool and would help with getting fucked by guns, smokers would be good if the zombies could actually see through the smoke. Runner zombies - light but low hp, fat zombies - slow but hit like a tank and have more hp.
There is a lot of depth that could be possible with this.2
Infecting somebody as gorilla but only having to kill them because they keep attacking you is what happens most of the time. Gorillas can’t run away.
Go L4D2 style instead, first zombie would be a tank to really kick start things.
