Random hot takes thread. It doesn't have to be SS13 related. Just have arguments for the sake of it

round removal is not a failure on the part of the antagonist and is more in line with roleplay than people trying to see if they can have a friendly watercooler side chat with the xenomorph queen / space dragon / industrial saboteur / invading wizard / abducting aliens / etc. round removal is essential to making sure people don’t confuse hugbox-everything for good roleplay and act appropriately to threats.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this game is supposed to have completely unfair/unjust/random moments, it’s a feature.

“It’s not my fault that I rushed wordlessly killing my target 5 minutes in and cremated them. It’s also not my fault that I spaced every single secoff I passed by.”

Xenomorphs arent even round removal anymore unless you choose to DNR and join them…
Sad that dragon basically does now tho… no chance at recovery until the dragon is dead.

Existential threats should be an overwhelming force that just slugs people, even without just deleting players they can still come out on top.

The issue comes from infiltrator roles just silently RRing people.
Happened time and time again to me and friends.

Antag says hello or asks for a minor task. Player bodied and RRd. No one ever finds out.
Uninteresting for both victim and the round as a whole.
Antag already greentexted so they just carry on as if nothing happened.

No, not like that. But if someone came up to me, chatted about what is going on with the station, offer me a weapon and then beat me to death with it and round remove me, I would applaud them. (actually happened)

Except you know what happens more often than not? Sleepy pen → cremation, with no prior interaction.
This is the type of RR I absolutely abhor.

You try to keep a profile for as long as possible. That’s the difficult part and what makes it interesting. If you prepare for war for 30 minutes you’ll win it if you strike so hard they can’t possibly recover from it. Because the station isn’t allowed to get any gamer gear unlike you. So two shots, and Command and Security is all dead with the rest running around like headless chicken because Command wasn’t given 30 minutes to make an announcement that there may be baddies on board and no one is willing to try to protect themselves, their mates and their Commands as that takes leadership, ERP skills and combat skills.

You body a single random in maints, nobody notices that they’re gone, round continues as normal because you had no impact on it besides achieving greentext.

You can think of it this way, when you have 10 players and one of them is an antag. You can assume you got 8 players, as the antag won’t do their job and the one they RRd won’t do their job either!

So when you got games with like 20 players and like 4 antags. You basically got 12 people on the station trying to do their jobs… 2 of which is Command and or Security making it 10 (who are probably dead already) actually doing work on the station trying to help others… It isn’t chaos, it is organized butt fuckery. Impossible to get stuff done like that.

I genuinely hate gaming miners. Sure, fair, mining is shit boring. But holy fuck, at least get some resources and research early on! Then you can take my mining mech, do some mining for 20 minutes with it and game for the remaining 1.5 hours. But noooo, you got to die like two times and not collect resources for FUCKING 40 MINUTES!! So I have to go to the Captain and ask to mine my fucking self because the two of you couldn’t get ANY resources with 40 minutes!! I ended up getting like 20K of points from my mining which I didn’t even deposit in your ORM because fuck you. To be fair, one of the two was a traitor and allegedly insane, stealing the shuttle and so on.

I genuinely think back to the happy moments where I can delivery a mining mech early on and have enough resources to not have to occupy myself with other menial tasks and instead work in robotics where I belong! Do a bunch of mechs, cyborgs and even give people a bunch of implants! It is fun contacting pretty much half the station offering them basically implant appointments. It is also fun helping mining with things like their ORM, Quantum Pad and even Aux Base! The Aux base is so nice when it has a Quantum Pad and an GPS on it. You can place it in the center of Lavaland and easily reach back home whenever you want to! Even build a mech recharger and put on a medibot there because I genuinely want my miners to live so that they may collect resources. But they are making it difficult for me to appreciate them sometimes…

Written with a mild gust of anger.

I’m curious, do you think there’s a good RP friendly way to be a stealthy traitor, or do you think it’s just a poor playstyle in general?

This isn’t just ‘stealthy’, this is ‘leave no trace at all so I can easily greentext’ stealthy.

and at least 2 of those are miners who are already dead so really you only have 8 players. And 3 of those have to be assistants which means you only really have 5 players because assistants won’t do anything. And obviously at the very least one is going to be a griefer who removes another player for no reason so actually there’s only 3. And 2 of those are going to be felinids in a metagang at the bar not doing their jobs so really theres only 1 person, who is obviously the player in this scenario. And as a player I’m not going to play a round where i’m the only person doing my job so i’m going to go cryo. So functionally, in a 20 player game there’s actually zero functional crew playing

This is accurate tbh

Difficult to be traceless stealthy unless it is low-pop or Security and Command are already wiped out. Also, helps if people just let evrry assistant and their greytide mother do whatever they want. The amount of times people are willy nilly let into the medbay techfab to print a bunch of things like chem dispensers made me wanna pull my hair out as CMO!

Fucking accurate. However! Science people do be really great people more often than not!! Especially people doing Xenobio and Toxins! Best mates one could have. I wish I could do more RD high pop games and talk more to people and take in-game notes of them.

i was joking were you not joking with your thing?

Roboticists who wants to work on the same mech together infuriates me. Like, if they do one of the steps I’lll have to through trial and error see what step or steps they’ve done to then continue the work on the mech. It is like a chemist sneaking up to their chemist bud and adding water to their potassium mixture to finish their potassium grenade… except the beaker is still in the chemistry fridge. So you both blow up. You work on your mixtures and I’ll work on mine. Just let me know what you are up to so we don’t do double the work. Although for mechs you can easily repurpose them for other things.

i thought the entire thing was a riff on the gag where someone, through a series of increasing illogical assumptions, claims that by being 5’5 they’re actually 6’3
