Hello. I want to fix mining eventually. It’s current state is playable but it’s incredibly flawed in so many ways in my opinion. I am deadset on doing it.
The problem is that there are many things wrong with mining. I’ve identified three main issues, and people aren’t very decisive on any of them: the main focus of the job, the RNG, and the PvP aspect that seems forced in.
So here’s a poll. Please vote on it. Even if you aren’t a miner main. It’s important to see what the people think, and if I ever make a PR that improves mining more, I’ll be able to reference this, so please help out with your opinions.
Me? I have my own opinion, but it doesn’t matter. I’ll fix mining, yeah, but I’ll do it the way people want it to be, so here we go.

Here are some admittedly nitpicked mining facts to pass the time.
Mining is often called an incredibly powerful PvP job, while in reality it is mid-tier at best, miles behind the likes of scientsts, botanists and of course security.
Mining has plenty of drops which are realistically useless for a non-traitor. It also has many drops which are left behind or discarded 90% of the time.
Most of mining’s infamous “PvP power” is locked behind RNG, be it tendrils or boss drops.
Mining is often called too easy. This is because a miner that does not engage fauna has very low risk of encountering antagonists and no other danger to their job. This makes miner an incredibly safe job as long as you don’t overextend, and is probably bad design.
Most fauna drops don’t help with mining at all. There are a few exceptions.
Mining’s important convenience upgrades are locked either behind xenobiology or RNG. They can potentially be unable to upgrade for no real reason other than the game hating them that round, or the alternative could be killing fauna which they are too inexperienced to do.
Miners are one of the most hated jobs on the station and the amount of cool stuff that they get from essentially free tendrils is likely to blame.
Miners should still always realistically lose to antags or security, but they look very cool if they do win, despite not being high-tier.
The hierophant is the only guaranteed mining pvp item and you can dodge all of its damage by just reacting fast.
Miners have no functional endgame unless they hunt. Their best points item is a meme bar capsule and the upgrades they can buy can just be printed in a lathe.

What should mining be about?
Mining should primarily be about mining itself. Literal mining should have more rewards.
Mining should primarily about hunting. The job could be renamed, and hunting should drop notable amounts of ores or otherwise be improved.

Miners should not have access to pvp items at all. This still leaves them with unique tribal weapons and gibtonite among other things.
Miners should keep their pvp items.
Miners should be able to have good pvp items (like they can get now), but only if they are traitors.

RNG in mining should be maintained. Bad design or not, it makes each round different.
RNG in mining should be replaced with a more balanced and rewarding system.

Additional question about PvP items in mining
PvP items should be removed from tendrils and fauna and given their own unique aquisition (probably tied to PvP itself in some way)
PvP items should be aquired from non-PvP content like they are now.
Weaker PvP items should stay the way they are, but strong items like fireball wand and spellblade should be obtained through special methods.
Think monsterhunter is my suggestion. A bunch of different monster types which grow in tiers and depending on the tier they drop different monster scales, which are used both as resources and as craftmats for mining items. Cool mining things (such as gods eye) either spawn in shiny monster versions, which are stronger than usual (with a buff depending on the item?). Or in boss mobs.

All tier one monsters are blu, and all tier two mobs are red per say. There are three monsters: melee, ranged and swarmer. All of them have tiered versions (so all of them can be blu and all can be red). And red ones are stronger/faster/whatever.
Aren’t there bluespace miners to balance out the negative parts about mining? No one is going to do just mining for an hour and you can’t really have any roleplay on lavaland because everyone are on the station
If byond mapping and coding is easy (which it probably isnt) i might try and do this myself, but i probably wont. Only will try if noone else will like it
Do we really need to fuck up mining and just turn it into a rock picking job for 2 straight hours? , most miners dont even go for the miner gear and just die due to the risks involved in mining, coming in and saying that we should remove all the items and make the job be just about mining would absolutly kill any incentive to mining, all the gear you can get from vendors or crafting is garbage and pretty brain dead to get since it only requires either points or easily accesable materials, and the people who want the miner job to just be mining are completly out of touch and never played mining in their lifes and think all the mimers are lazy and just going for the loot when instead they are mostly dead, if science was just clicking on the research button to unlock shit no one would like it, same applies to all other jobs, diversification and different aspects for each job is what makes them interesting not the act of doing them. If it comes to the point where miner job is just mining rocks for 2 straight hours, so you can buy some shitty pods no one ever uses and get other pointless items will just mean the death of mining as an interesting role
While i agree with rng items to be mentained i say that when you do elites fight the rewards should be batter because they are not your avrege trendill.Like increase the chance of good loot when the pulsating tumor is made sentient and if not so at least give the sentient elites the abilety to have a toggle button just like hirophant’s freandly fire so at least they can be useful for traitors or crew that wana have a trusty monster to protect them.(fix pandora too maybe)

If you think that disagreeing with people on how things should change is toxic, then you are looking a the wrong person, and i’m fully open to listen to anyone who disagrees with what i said.

What I meant is that youre going on about something thats not even happening. He just made a suggestion its not like he is making mining about well mining rocks for 2 hours. Its just a suggestion, people can either rejecr it or accept it.
Then you din’t understand me well, i’m adressing the people who want mining to be just mining rocks for 2 hours, and not what perished fraud is going to implement, i know its just a poll to see what the community wants and such.
