Plasmaflooding discussion

If you are doing a general plasma flood you are assaulting all people on station and making grant sabotage against the entire station, and only murderbone antags have good reason to do it

Should have just gotten the start of the distro and spaced a tile with a vent on it, takes like 5 minutes to empty all of distro them. PUMPS ARE SLOWER

Oh yeah, I’ll keep that in mind next time.

Not a fan of plasma. Step away from the direct effects and look at what it does at a meta level, maybe you’ll share my opinion

• Kills new people, and probably no one else.
• Spreads due to new people, and probably no one else.
• New people do not know how to fix it.

Do we really need such a noob filter mechanic? Compare fixing a breach from a bomb to fixing plasma, for example.

Of course, I understand that as a major part of the game, plasmafires aren’t going anywhere, but I do hate seeing them almost universally. I also want them to actually get disabled on echo along with vines - on that map fixing it goes from hard to borderline impossible.

Lies! Utter lies! They don’t know how to open firedoors AND IF THEY DO KNOW! They’d be dead before they can do it. kek

I’d rather fix plasma. Sure, it destroys a few things, but all walls and most floors will be fine. It’ll be a clean slate with next to no clean up compared to making the room and all neighbouring rooms look like a dump!

Have been thinking about this, plasmaflooding sucks and I’d rather it be mechanically restricted on some way but I’m not sure the best way of doing that. There are a couple of issue:

  • It is way too easy to destroy the entire station.
  • There is no way of targetting it to a particular area.
  • Heat remains for way too long and is really not fun to deal with

Perhaps air alarms should have default settings where they shut down vents if they detect certain gasses in the air.

These are some really good points. As an experienced player, I know that unless I attempt to outright ignore the plasma flood, I am extremely unlikely to die to it. I also rarely see any staticnames that I recognise dead to plasma floods, instead finding it’s mostly a new players. The only semblance of challenge, if I bother, is seeing how many people I can rescue.

Depends on how you count it, standard air alarms are really bad at actually pumping plasma, you need to switch their mode and only AI can do it fast. Atmos tech has to run around manually switching them with can be stoped by others

  • There is no way of targetting it to a particular area.

It’s technically possible but requires high effort and knowledge of piping and of map. I agree it should be much simpler to do or Atmos techs should have more way to do it personally (plasma flood in a bottle my beloved (suppercolled burn mix in flamethrower)).

  • Heat remains for way too long and is really not fun to deal with

That actually just the fault of players, Atmos techs and AI have tools to get rid of it, it just isn’t a common knowledge for some reason. Panic sympson into refill, draught, Atmos resin and etc fix the problems fast and 2 of those are something anyone can do (assuming Atmos got fixed). Tendency of plasma fires to cause breathes also helps

You could make choke points. I toyed around with such an idea where a section of the station would go through a choke point ensuring there is a correct ratio of oxygen and nitrogen and nothing else.

This would require the grie- antagonist to actually visit the areas and intentionally and obviously interfare with the machines.

Unless the plasma forms tritium and makes a hole in the floor, fixing the heat is reeeeeally painful. Although, I think this could be fixed by teaching more people, especially Station Engineers and Atmospherics Technicians, how to fix and deal with these fires. For example if you’ve made an over-pressurized canister of super cooled air, you can fix the atmosphere very quickly.
