Official survey 1 - chefs and food

That is indeed a problem that’s tied with hunger mechanics and mood which most of the players ignore, i always cringe a little whenever i observe X player and their mood is on insanity and their hunger bar

I don’t think those robots are RP-inmersion breaking they’re just robots with stereotipical irl ethnics that say a line or two and then fuck off to their tiny portal, it’s the future lol, i’m mostly discussing that it would be an option( that again, can be turned on and off from what i remember) for chefs/bartenders to have to opt in for a challenge/extra money/being bored/learning recipes/etc

It doesn’t take over the discussion that chefs/bartenders/and so many other jobs needs different approaches and alternatives, if you’re a pro chef, sure ignore le robots, do your thing no one’s taking your kitchen away it’s just another option for players to have and i’ve always liked it since whenever i saw it on others servers and spoke with the players they said they helped them early on to learn X stuff and they were helpful to keep the ball rolling, since not many players are creative and need different encouragments to go out of their comfort zone, you are you Explodes, you can’t preach a very specific type of Chef gameplay and call it a bible

All in all, main point of the robot is that in my opinion is a QoL that can help new players for the new players friendly server same way as our recently updated antag Ui has helped players get more information and accostumed to it

I would even say the public bounty box thing i’ve seen in others servers helps a lot to new players but to do that you’ll need to do quite some changes

And as for players not interacting with chefs/bartenders that’s a whole 'nother bag, even if you try to force dependances(like mantainers have tried to do with cargo for years) players will always either find a way around it to continue with their meta playstyle, ignore it or luckily adapt and get used to it, it’s a roll dice on the outcome unfortunately.

@Ambiic you’re missing the point, if you were to ramdomly remove vendor machines because one chef is present it… doesn’t makes sense first of all and second if said chef is an antag/new/straight up doesn’t cook they just make the round detrimental to oozeling players that will be forced to tide into medbay for toxin bottles or just players will tide into kitchen to make their own food, it just misses the point tbh, and it’s not like vending machines and chefs are mortal enemies due to the majority of players ignoring food/mood metters, there’s also the fact that mining/explos can get unlimited pizza

Food, mood, economy needs big reworks.

Your art idea would be near impossible to code for very littie reward, and femoving the vendors would both be annoying to code and fuck over the entirety of the crew for little reason the second chef isnt great

And I’m sorry but you will not convince me that teleporting robots whose sole function is to demand meals then teleport away are RP

You could add that mechanic in an entirely different way that won’t be so goofy and a straight up minigame lmfao

Plenty of jobs already have the crew reliant on them.

Plus vendors would still be here, and easy to make food would still exist. The fancy dishes would mostly mean faster eating, and much less wasteful consumption

I don’t think this is too much of a bad thing - It would mean that people would either need to rely on orders for food restocking/pizza from cargo or for someone to step in as the chef.

Plus, the whole station becoming a mess partly due to poor management is the core concept of the game and how each round plays out.

Likewise, a round without any engineers or security can very quickly become a complete mess.

Opinions on nutriment pumps? I love 'em. Maybe if food made from a cook (real cook) would give the people a MASSIVE mood boost? But nutriment pumps luckily (and unfortunately) make chefs entirely irrelevant.

Nutriment pumps take about 10 minutes to install in your body and will fuck you up if you get emped. They’re fine & balanced.
You’re going way too far with what you suggest ambiic lmao

I throw shit at the wall and see what sticks. lol

Also, I think the nutriment pump is safe. The reviver will fuck you up though.

Nutriment pump gives you bad food if EMP’d

Which causes good toxin damage and can kill you if not taken care of, so I do think it is balanced.
Even then, the long wait before even being able to print it (research), combined with the need to find a doc willing to do surgery and the actual wait for the surgery to take place, make it balanced in itself.

It’s not a good thing to remove every single opportunity to bypass food in a misguided attempt to make chef more relevant - there should be alternatives, but they should not be as easy as the xenobio infinite food crossbreed (which prints dozens of meals in a few seconds). Nutriment pumps take a long-ass time, cargo costs a lot of money or mining points, vendors have limited supply and do not allow you to feed much above orange starvation, which will certainly be annoying to deal with

There are a lot of things that are a minigame for gameplay purposes so *shrug if it ever happens you can always leave it turned off

Again, it is literally the most RP-breaking mechanic you could add - please don’t tell me you actually believe it would actually let you be immersed into the game?
I repeatedly said that I get your intent, but the way you want to add it into the game would suck
Just make it a cargo thing where you can deliver meals to centcom, ala bounties but more constant, if you really wanted this feature.

I still think that feature would suck but i’m past arguing that at this point lmao

Agree to disagree then, not like any forum threads ever lead to something lmao, i’m talking three separate things one being stuff that helps newbies, second the rp engagements and third the balance around economy.

Main point being that any substancial rework of chefs and food needs to take into account a rebalance of nutriment, hunger, mood, economy and so on so… it’s a ?wyci moment.

For now chefs are on a spot where most of the rp they get comes from their own unique generated gimmicks or the willigness of other players to stay more than 1 minute on the chef’s line to talk( challenge impossible)

Forever or for five seconds? It’ll paaaass! I had revive once and it straight up killed me. xd

Each time it gets EMPd with the volume injected depending on the severity of the EMP.

Might’ve been that mechs absorb the EMPd it gets hit by. As I am quite sure I’ve gotten tons of EMPs without it affecting me personally. Anyway, getting side tracked.

What about giving cooks access to all the lil’ break rooms in each departments? Either by giving them basic access or whatever. So then they can do some cool stuff in there!

Playerbase doesnt give a shit about coding stuff unless its a nerf lmao.

I do :pensive:, newfood is important in my eyes

Onto my actual thoughts on chefs, food and roleplay, I’ve said these a million times before but:

Currently a big issue in my eyes is that most the crew have 0 reason to actually visit the cook. Vendor junk food does exactly what most of them want (human favourite food is actually ‘junk food’, so they are mechanically encouraged to eat vendor food INSTEAD of cook food), and even if they do visit the cook, a few bites from any good dish will fill them up for almost the entire shift, meaning they never visit again.

My ideas were making vendor food taste worse and be less nutritious, or temporarily nutritious… somehow. Making species preferences matter more would also improve the experience IMO, since the crew would have more reason to ask for personalized dishes, and y’know, actually talk to the cook.

thank you all for your input in the survey 1 i have aquired a good view to what must be done… i’ll keep looking around in here for some more time still.
