Naming Rules

Is it ok if I name my character after a certain Nambian councillor for the Ompundja constituency?

No. We all know who you mean.

But Hitler as a first name doesn’t reference the historical figure. It’s used in parts of Africa apparently.

So, it’s not a direct reference to anything, or on its own, the name of a celebrity or character. Technically it fits MRP naming rules.

We all know you wouldn’t be using the name “because it’s common in africa”, and that’s all that matters here.

You’ll have to make him African, then it’s ok.

(I did in fact need to search what you meant by that) Something about Hitler? Yeah that’s a no, Adolf’s different (See my long-winded post about adidas or whatever where I defend the first name Adolf, I did in fact do a bit of research for that, I think it was the naming policy page) Similarly, I’d veto the name ‘Stalin’ but find someone named ‘Joseph McKenzie’ just fine. The last names are pretty infamous so even finding an excuse of ‘oh but there’s this guy with that first name’ wouldn’t quite cut it. Another example on the other end of the spectrum: Mozart is iconic, his first name ‘Wolfgang’ however (Don’t question it I don’t understand Germany/Austria/Holy Roman Empire’s the latter was neither holy, nor roman, nor an empire apparent obsession with wolves) got quite a few results when I typed it in Google.

Hitler? I doubt. Adolf, however, is common in the man’s area due to it having previously been a German colony. Likewise there is also a small German-speaking community as well as towns with German-inspired names.
