Ok I’m just going to spit out some buff ideas for moths.
1: make it so they have a mood increase when near lights and a mood decrease when in dark so they are closer to the real deal
2: make I so they have very weak thermal vision, like not enough to tell what’s on the other side of a wall but just enough that you can see that something is there.
3: make it so if they can fly when they have no legs, I mean they have huge ass wings they should be able to do that in the first place.
Ok now i have downside ideas for if any of these get added.
1: make its so when they are in a colder environment that they can’t fly.
2: make it so instead of blood moths have hemolymph, which does not start in medbay at round start, but has to be ordered from cargo.
3: make it so when they are cloned that they start out as a caterpillar and after 30 seconds they go into metamorphosis for like 1 minute and then hatch.
Ok so now here is a ways Moths could work differently from other races.
1: this on build off the second downside, make it so when moths bleed out they take burn damage, the reason for this is this hemolymph is used for body temperature regulation, not for having oxygen moved around their bodies, moths breath through tiny holes in their skin called spicules.
Now i will conclude my suggestions.
I don’t think all of these should be added as that would make moths wildly unbalanced, rather i think only a few of these should be added.
These changes would make moths feel more fleshed out and not just a worst human.
I may be making more suggestions for other races in the future, but for now, this is where I get off.
Making moths able to fly almost always but being extremely sensitive to temperature changes to the point that even a skinsuit does nothing to protect them from space would be a very nice trade-off.
I think moths should be heavily discouraged against EVA, i should have added because of the respiratory system moths should have to have a higher pressure level in air pan oxy tanks
Solid +1, and would mean they have mood buffs compared to other races most of the time and makes for a pretty good core upside… although I have to wonder where you’re pulling this “closer to the real deal” from because real moths are perfectly fine in the dark and bright lights fuck with their perception.
I believe all exoskeleton races should have this, honestly. Breathe not via gas mask, but via sealed suit.
Could probably find a way to swipe plasmaperson code and flip the activator so that it triggers oxyloss in the absence of oxygen instead of firestacks in the presence of it, with all sealed suits negating the effect (but still suffocating without internals)
Edit: On second thought that would take a lot of snowflake code for different gas interactions.
The reason why moths and other insects breathe through their skin due to thier size rather than their anatomy as a whole. If the area of a object is increased by 10x the volume of said objects are increased by 1000x. Now because of the relative high volume to area that small insects have most of them can breathe through their skin due to osmosis. Now if we were to scale a moth to human size they would suffocate, as the area of the moth would not suffice to supplement it with enough oxygen. I like the idea but if its realism we are looking for this is not the way.
It’s a multiplayer atmosphere sim game, i dont think it would be a stretch that the spicules on a moth could stay the same size even if they were upscaled
Sorry for my blunder but i thought it would just be neat and when you first look at moths fucking with light you like ‘ay it likes it’ mistake on my part
Its not about size its about the amount of oxygen that could be transfered via osmosis, theres a reason why theres no mammal or reptile that breathe through their skin
Are you trying to tell me Quiet from Metal Gear Solid V actually isn’t breathing through her skin and is actually just dressed like a whore for no reason?!
