MalevolentBacon's Admin Application

Your CKEY (Including any alts you have): MalevolentBacon

Your Discord Name (Including any alts you have): AllKn0wingDin0#0378

How often are you online to play/admin? (Timezone): Random times, because my sleep schedule rotates weird, US Central time zone

What changes, if any, would you bring?: A god damn admin at night to deal with the greifing thats been happening lately

How old are you?: 22

Why do you want to be an admin?: Admining servers for various games has been a minor hobby of mine for years, and its been a hot minute since I’ve done any. plus bee really needs more mins.

How long have you been playing SS13?: 2019-05-05

How long have you been playing BeeStation?: 2019-05-05

On a scale of 1-10, how skilled are you in SS13?: a modest 6

On a scale of 1-10, how skilled are you as an admin?: 8, but unknown for specifically SS13

Have you ever been an admin on another server? This is not limited to SS13: Frequently. I have well over 1000 hours throughout other games in admining experience

Do you have any alternate accounts on SS13? If so, could you provide their CKEY?: No

Your strengths: I’m fuckin online when no one else is apparently (subject to change), and I enjoy adminning. I’ve become a slightly known member of the community, but only slightly. like, people recognize me, but probably not much more than that.

Your weaknesses: My core weakness is that I get mad easily. That being said, I’m pretty good at separating my personal anger from a report or something like that. and take “easily” with a grain of salt. I am not a great judge when it comes to judging myself on things like that.

Is there anything that gets you really mad, real fast?: It’s hard to pinpoint a thing. Mad in relation to moderating? not really. People being absolute shitheads for the sake of being a shithead is annoying as fuck though.

What do you think is the most important trait for a staff member to have?: Making the rounds fun. This can include spicing up a 2 hour greenshift that has had no antags, or banning shitheads who are there purely to be assholes to every other player in any way possible.

What makes a staff team good?: Honestly, no idea. I’ve never really been a “team” person. a sense of community i guess. That’s usually the best part of being an admin. interacting with the other admins in a smaller knit group.

What is a staff team’s purpose?: To keep the server clear of shit heads, to remain connected to the player base, and to make the game fun

What kind of player are you?: Science Moth Main, but I’ve been known to do AI, and I have been learning atmos and botany, on top of engineering and service. I like to be an allround player who does shit the station needs. This can include fixing shit, doing research, cleaning, yelling at people who should be doing stuff, or doing upgrades.

How do you think you will change once you become a staff member?: Its hard to say. that’s the kind of thing you cant predict.

The clown slips the HoS and steals his gun, spacing it right after. What do you do?: Laugh cuz thats a damn good prank. HoS has the entire armory at his disposal. One gun isnt gonna hurt him.

A non-antagonist is sabotaging the Atmospherics loop and pumping plasma into the distro, along with dragging around a canister and releasing it into the atmosphere. Assuming that another admin is cleaning up the after-effects, how do you conduct the ahelp with him?: I am unfamiliar with the SS13 admin tools, but I have heard talk of logs, so probably check those to confirm that he was the one who did it, and attempt to get him to confess it, and assuming he does confess it, give him a job ban. If he denies it, or leaves, fat server ban.

A chemist who is working alone accidentally mixes an explosive mixture inside of his chem dispenser, instantly killing himself and destroying the machine, along with exposing Chemistry to space. Nobody else was injured aside from him as a result of his actions. What do you do?: ask him if it was an honest mistake, which if he was alone, it likely was. If it was, do nothing. Accidents happen and its up to the crew to deal with it. That’s like, 33% of the entire game.

They’re quite pleasant, even-tempered and helpful both IC and OOC. Also very active and knowledgeable at the game.

Answers were a little weak though - the HOS’ gun isn’t just “one gun”, it’s the most powerful roundstart weapon in the game as well as a traitor objective. It would at least be worth checking current antag objectives first before deciding what to do.

Likewise the atmos griefer needs a server ban in either instance because of griefing, as it’s more than likely to result in multiple deaths.

Your answers aren’t too far off though, so I think once you have some experience you’d answer closer to the mark.

I can understand that. I guess I wasn’t sure if it meant HoS’s special gun or just the gun he happened to be holding. I guess a problem of mine is being too lenient at times. I’m just not a huge believer in handing out huge punishments. The few times I’ve been banned, it was almost ALWAYS overkill, or a trialmin who was overstepping their bounds (i heard they need to consult a admin first) or something like that. Maybe twice was I deserving of the whole punishment. It’s just a personal opinion on player punishment that I’ve developed over the years. Take that as you will. I consider it both a strength and a weakness.

Confessing your rulebreak doesn’t really take you out of scrunity, especially with plasmaflooding. Be more harsh about mass-round-altering grief.

Understandable. The intent I had was that I would likely give a typical ban length for it, if they were at least honest, and a longer ban length if they were being shits about it. I assume the admins have at least some sort of guideline for ban lengths, so the bans would likely follow closer to that. I don’t know the average sentence for something like that.

+2 from me. I’d at least like to see your trial period.

A lot of hours and a lot of notes, but that notes might actually be good because you know what it is like to be on the other side of the bwoink. Here’s your +1

I’m hesitant to give a +2 because of notes, but I’d still like to see you have a try, so +1

+2 I’d be up for giving ya a shot.

Notes suggest tendancy to get get upset and act out on it at times, although they are spaced out. Also self-identifying it as a weakness is a good thing, and means I’d be happy to see you give it a shot. Just watch out for giving into it and admin-grudging.

Why there gotta be two bacons though? I haven’t separated my interactions with you two enough yet in my head and assume there is just a bacon hivemind.

EDIT: Changed to +0. After thinking it over I know how aggressive Floaty can be in dead chat. A little more unsure than comfortable with.

Two bacons, yeah!

Now I ask the questions, not rue! Muhahahah!

Anyways, for real. Got a few questions I want answered.

  1. MRP. A scientist fucks up launching a bomb, and maxcaps science. They said it was a accident, however they have 2 notes related to this. One for BOH bombing the shuttle while they were new, another for a maxcap in a toilet which they ate a month ban. They said both were accidents. What do?
  2. It’s LRP. Captain’s name is “Ah fuck here we go again”. He decides to name the station “GOD HATES ALL GAYS”. What do?

1+. I’m not usually the question guy. How’d I do @Ruediger4

-0 for now

+over 700 hours

-Had 3 notes this year already
-They are a ticket regular

Will wait until answer some questions to give a proper vote.

Hmm.

    1. both issues seem related to science, as that is where BoH and maxcaps are made. I would probably hand out a science job ban. Not a super long one, as it is only two notes, but say, 3 days. maybe a week. It depends on what the logs say, and if the maxcap was actually in the launch room or not. BoH bombs can’t be an accident. The game gives you a warning before doing it, and you have to actively hit proceed to do it. However, I don’t think 2 notes alone is enough to warrant a permanent server ban. If the bomb was far enough out of the launch room, I would consider a server ban.
    1. Change the name to the default and bwoink the captain, warning him. I observe a lot, so that early in the round I would likely still be observing and not taken a midround. I would use that to watch the captain for a long time to check his behavior. If anything self antag-y or shittery happens, probably a head job ban or a short server ban, depending on the level of shittery and self antagonizing.

As I had mentioned previously, my worst habit is probably being too lenient, so that might be the issue with these answers. as Xylana said, I should probably be more harsh, but I dont have much perspective on the standards for SS13, and they seem to vary from admin to admin, seeing as one time I got a 2 week ban for changing the AI from asimov to mothimov (which is a bit extreme for something so minor)

Accepted. I’ll give you Discord perms, ask Senior Admin or above for training and in-game perms.
