Lets Discuss Fines

Hi Hi

I’ve been playing a bit of sec recently, as the Moth Officer Aroma, and have absolutely been getting my use out of the Fine System ever since the PR (Fines now get enforced mechanically, and users will be informed of arrest warrants by PowerfulBacon · Pull Request #12524 · BeeStation/BeeStation-Hornet · GitHub) came out.

Which TLDR: Means when you get fined your given notice via PDA, told you have 15minutes to pay. Where an arrest warrant for fine evasion will automatically be made and beepskys will start trying to detain you.

Personally, ive been placing fines for RP violationations. Not like, fail rp, but putting on insuls and just dropping your old gloves in ok the floor, firing your PKA randoming all around you as they walk through station halls to gateway, or as a seccie, tackling people and hitting crew just trying to get around.

To me, every fine i place, can be explained in RP, but, just as often as i get people able to react IC, yell about how fines are bullshit and try to argue them, i have people tell me to fuck off, ask why im not defending station and aggrivating crew, have people go SSD to look at space law, or tell me they arent paying the fine all while never reading it. Among which anyome with access to sec records, just goes in and voids their record.

My question to these people, do you only want sec to exist for hunting down antags? and should there be no fine violations?

If you get OOC mad, over leaving gloves on the ground, and getting fines 5 credits for littering, i dont know what to say except for RP better.

That said, i did nitpick, and want this to be a discourse, so anyone whos felt their fines were unjust, please use this opportunity to vent frustration so proper clarity rules wise can be reached, and maybe the definiton for these laws can be more clearly worded or something.

Amen.

OOC asshurt over an entirely IC issue of their own making is a failure to RP appropriately. Be upset IC, but don’t make it an OOC issue when you get told you shouldn’t just drop trash in the hall, shouldn’t be trespassing or otherwise do something that perhaps makes sense in a game, but isn’t sensible in-universe.

Keep up the fines!

Someone’s actually getting mad over miniscule, totally reasonable fines?

I got fined for leaving a door hacked once, it was perfect. Getting an arrest or interrogation over it would be silly, and ignoring it negligent. A fine fits just right. Fines rule!

You know what I think would be a perfect use of disorderly conduct charge? looting fire lockers and just wearing the helmet.

Next person I see wearing emergency fire gear without an atmos issue is getting one!

I have been one of those to, in’-charactwer berate you for placing a fine on me and I like it. :3
It also gives me a reason, a petty one, to kill you. >:3

Just gotta add the fine-paying machine to r&d and board room (i think they can’t be printed and if they destroy it they’re gone forever, not 100% sure) and to add them to the two maps that are missing it: Fland and Kilo

I’ll fix that tonight if no one else does it before me.

Very Important To Mention

Honestly for as many people that genuinely seem to hate the fines, there are people who handle them incredibly well and it wasnt fair of me not to bring them up, or the rp situations theyve created.

Because it is fun, doing interregations on people just to end up asking them if they saw the other person drop their smoke when it was finished, to have the chemist who says they’ll pay their fine, send a text asking for help at the console only to use it as a opportunity to BOMB sec, and start their antag conduct, having justifiable reason developed IC for being Anti-NT. And it is amazing, truly lovely to play sec in this way because these people make it fun. Even if they still aren’t paying their fines, its the interaction they’re willing to give that is amazing.

And i do think really highly of the people that react IC, and use it as a opporutunity to RP because thats all it is, and all i wanted. BUT, some people seem frusterated, and wanted to give chance, and opportunity to discuss them as a whole because they are vauge and the officer, or highest ranking ones interpretation of these laws can seemingly make/break a shift for fines.

Until however this does become a discourse on the nature of frusterations of fines, im going to consider this thread a overwhelming succuess as it already insipired atleast one new fine, in haphazard use of fire helmets. Cant believe i didnt think of such a thing as being disorderly before…

Even as a non-antagonist, it is a low-key invitation to harass Security. Although not to antagonist lengths like bombing Security. loll
