If you think that everything needs a passive and active abilities then fuck off to play league of legends or something.
Races ideally should only be cosmetic/roleplay choice.

I think that way of designing them isn’t a bad one - but really should apply to round start races only.
And it’s a tad boring.
After slipping in a pool of water, they should dry it up. Maybe the ability to spew ink, which just leaves a black stain on the ground. Give them a positive moodlet if they play a clarinet.
